Heres hoping Axiom Verge sells enough on Wii U to warrant a physical release... I'd love for Nintendo to publish an "eShop Select" edition similar to FAST Racing and SteamWorld... (I'd totally forgive Nintendo for completely ignoring Metroid's recent aniversary if that came to pass).
How about a Kirby Air Ride 2? While I have every confidence that Shin'en could do a fantastic job with the F-Zero license you do have to consider how long the IP has been dormant. Not to mention that asking them to throw their own Fast Racing IP down the toilet after having made a name for themselves with the hardcore Nintendo gamers is extremely closed-minded.
I'd love to see what they could do with the Air Ride license.
Props to Nordic. Over the past 3-4 years they have made some very shrewd moves, including this rebranding.
The fact they are still supporting Wii U with quality releases when larger publishers bowed out over a year ago, speaks volumes. I truely hope the Nintendo fan base reciprocate... (I for one, can't wait to hear what else they have in the pipeline and which might be heading to NX.)
@RoomB31 Nintendo is holding off on NX news - they have given us practically nothing. It is the media that is focusing on NX because they are aware of how ravenous people are for even a shred of information because it will drive people to visit whichever site it appears on. Consequently, if we want to hear less about the NX then we should stop clicking on articles speculating as to what it may or may not turn out to be. If we show we don't care about NX right now the media will surely focus on other things instead.
Is it even news that a high profile business in an extremely competitive market is withholding information regarding their future plans in order to maintain competitive advantage? Don't read too much into use of the word "stealing" here - in this context it is very likely used in a colloquial manner.
Nintendomination posted a new hands-on Star Fox: Zero mission 1 playthrough video, from over the player's shoulder with the gamepad in clear view - https://youtu.be/V-YoPlc56Ik
Considering that demand for Amiibo in the US and Canada accounts for ~65% of the total stock and that these Yarn Yoshis are even more desirable - I'd say its pretty likely that production is a factor. Of course they could simply be delaying to pad the release schedule.
Playing it right now, as Splatoon Squid Yoshi. I can confirm its a great game and I'd personally give it an 8.5 thus far (played up to 1-5).
Seems to me that many reviewers are marking the game down significantly according to personal preferences rather than quality and/or execution of the game design.
I didn't vote because I'm planning to pick up and look forward to playing nearly all of them. The only one I really have no interest in at all is Lego Dimensions.
If I did have to choose a single most anticipated game then I guess it would have to be Fatal Frame.
@Toads-Friend - yeah I'm eagerly looking forward to quite a few, from Yoshi's Woolly World to Fatal Frame, from Star Fox: Zero to Devil's Third. I like a wide range of games and there are some really nice (and exclusive) ones coming to Wii U this year
@Toads-Friend - I didn't expect you did mean that I for one certainly do enjoy Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, also. That is part of the reason why I personally bought a Nintendo platform - I like a good mix of games.
I don't know if NintendoLife provides a mechanism for filtering their content according to certain preferences but it would be nice feature for sure.
@Toads-Friend - I do not agree that it is right to deny a platform and therefore it's users from certain types of games simply because they happen to be in conflict with Nintendo's family-friendly focus. Nintendo is in the business of providing both a platform and games to play on said platform. Are you saying that users who buy a Nintendo platform should only be interested in family-friendly experiences?
You would have exactly the same issue on other platforms. I believe the correct response is to instead seek reviews from magazines/websites that cater to a specific demographic and which perform the kind of filtering you expect.
I doubt Ubisoft are honestly expecting huge success for a straight port of this now old game. I expect that they are tarting it up with more modern visuals, with the plan being to use this as foundation to develop Zombi into an ongoing franchise, with a sequel coming later down the road (which, we likely won't see on the Wii U).
The gyro based control scheme looks/sounds great to me and I certainly won't be limiting my gameplay options by switching it off! (Splatoon, anyone?). This is precisely the kind of experience I signed up for when I purchased the Wii U - classic Nintendo IPs married to new/unique gameplay experiences (same with Fatal Frame).
Hearing that Platinum Games is involved pretty much sealed the deal instantly - I absolutely adore their wonderfully crafted action games (still missing W101 - so many great games on Wii U).
Definitely picking this up, despite that I've never played a game in either of the franchises which inspired it. It has been a long time since I properly played a JRPG and this one is so artistically creative and fun that it seems like the ideal game to rekindle my interest in the genre.
Looks very interesting indeed and I love the immediacy of the combat and setting for the game (particularly for me, a Brit). The only real negative I observed in the trailer is a somewhat jittery camera (distracting).
I'm a big fan of classic fighting games like Dungeons & Dragons: Towers of Doom, so this is definitely on my radar.
The issue is not the content - Nintendo truly has some really great games coming - the problem, as usual with Nintendo, is their marketing of those games.
How are gamers meant to know about games like Devil's Third, Fatal Frame and FAST Racing Neo if Nintendo doesn't even feature them in their E3 Digital Event? I get that Nintendo is focused on family friendly entertainment but not highlighting games like Devil's Third and Fatal Frame in their E3 Direct is a huge disservice to both gamers and the developers of those games and the result is that it makes their lineup look increddibly one-dimensional.
Nintendo need to realize that nowadays, there are just as many (if not more) adults playing games and by not showcasing their more mature games they are pigeonholing themselves. Sony seems to have no problem with showcasing games like Rachet and Clank alongside games like Call of Duty - you don't necessarily have to linger on the violent aspects of the latter in an E3 Direct...
Their marketing deficiencies are also the reason why gamers completely misinterpreted some of the content they did show. How are we to know that Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival is more than just a spin on Mario Party 10? How are we know that the game is a free download that requires Amiibo to play? If they don't show/tell us this it is no wonder that gamers jump to conclusions. Another example is completely failing to tell gamers that Star Fox: Zero is being developed by Platinum Games. Yet another example is Metroid Prime: Federation Force - the presentation of this game in their direct was terrible.
Nintendo needs to seriously rethink their approach to marketing their games - the fans know it and so too third party publishers.
Nintendo also stated they are aiming for 60 FPS on both screens which naturally limits how much visual finesse can be applied.
It is very clear that we are looking at an early build of what will ultimately become the final game, once Platinum Games have worked their magic. It certainly does look visually poor in places right now, though. I personally am not at all concerned about the visual aspects of this particular game right now. Lets see how it looks in three-four months time.
What annoyed me is that following the NWC I believed they had the kernel of a fun and interesting game in Blast Ball. If this was instead on Wii U, sporting optional gyro based aiming and was expanded with more robust mechanics, similar to Speedball 2 and a fleshed out new IP (in the vein of Splatoon) - this could be really great and stand on its own.
That said, this MPFF game did look much better live than it did during the Digital Event.
Only touched RIVE so far but played through the demo a bunch of times - loving this game (sold!). There appears to be some audio issues (only output via the gamepad?), though everything else is pretty great.
@Yorumi I'm thinking this is more a matter of balancing player/team skill than XP parity among weapons (much like the initial "rollers are OP" reaction during the test fire).
I can echo what @Einherjar and @JaxonH have said as this mirrors my experience also. Once you start progressing into the higher ranks it becomes very clear that there is a huge gulf in player skill. Right now I'm inclined to think that the biggest issue is that teams are frequently too imbalanced, making for a steep learning curve and harsh experience overall.
@Yorumi I do not have a false impression. My point is simply that the outcome of a turf war depends solely on which team covers the most ground. The awarding of XP is naturally based on that premise. However, I do not agree that a personal reward of XP matters more than the final outcome, which is what seems to be being argued here. It stands to reason that the Charger awards the individual less XP in this game mode.
I agree that in an ideal world all weapons would be considered equal. However, we are talking about a game mode which naturally favours weapons that can efficiently cover the most ground. If one opts for a Charger regardless - you are doing so in full knowledge that you won't get the same amount of XP because you simply can't cover the same amount of ground. In such a game mode, you then fall into a role of supporting your team.
@Yorumi as I said, I do appreciate the issue. However, once one has achieved the current maximum Rank 20 - does it even matter how much XP you are awarded? I'm not convinced that rollers are under powered in turf war - they enable you to efficiently cover the most ground while your team mates do the job of keeping the enemy at bay. (I think that right now its still far too early to make such calls.)
The Charger is different case entirely. Clearly it is not suited for maximizing XP within the Turf War rule set. Other game modes, like that tower one, will empower the Charger, making it far more effective as you can efficiently nullify the other teams chances of scoring at all (given the premise of that mode as we know it).
@Yorumi I do appreciate the issue. However in my personal experience I have found that I can be more effective depending on the map using a Splattershot rather than an Aerospray because of the secondary and special weapons. I can't agree that it is categorically the best weapon in all situations, even in turf war.
Maybe they could increase the explosion on death by Charger so it covers much more ground? That would avoid potentially imbalancing for kills and ruining the whole game mode.
@Yorumi thing is that by choosing a weapon like the Charger you immediately acknowledge that you won't be hitting the same level of XP - this is a support weapon intended for suppressing the other team while your mates do the job of marking turf.
I'm not sure its even possible to balance such drastically different weapons in terms of XP unless you simply award more for kills and in the process subvert the premise of the turf war game mode.
Disclaimer: I'm not at all interested in maximizing XP - my sole motivation is securing a win for my team.
@Yorumi it varies. My personal best with the Splattershot is 1483p after the win bonus. I tend to switch my loadout regularly and can't say I've personally noticed it being particularly imbalanced.
I do see a lot of really ineffective rollers though.
Speaking as someone who routinely hits +1100p with the standard issue Splattershot jnr - I don't think the weapons are imbalanced at all, far from it in fact.
I think the main issue is that at this stage people in general seem unwillingly to change their loadout according to the maps. Each map favours different play styles and I believe that we should acknowledge that.
Secret stretch goals are kinda annoying yeah. I can appreciate why its bad to lay out a really lofty plan before the project secures initial funding but after a certain point it does seem kinda self-defeating.
I'm quite sure I'm not the only Nintendo fan keeping an eye on the project feed to see if a Wii U stretch goal turns up... (I need more than a hint before pledging)
Otherwise I'll just make do with digital on Steam.
You are missing the point again. I do not expect a personal response nor consideration. What I said is that he should appreciate the reasoning I presented, not myself personally. Big difference.
Not at all and again you presume to know my mind without having ever met me.
