Wow, Japan REALLY likes dragons and puzzle games, haha. This is really awesome, Wii U desserve it. Hope the post-holiday sales don't go down pretty dramatically and it can stay in decent numbers until DKCTF and from there, all is gun' be good with Mario Kart 8 and beyond.
I wanted to buy NES Remix today! Oh well, let's be patient. This is a good sign tough meaning a lot of people got Nintendo systems (especially Wii U's) this morning
See? When 3rd Party developers wants to do something right on Wii U, they do it RIGHT! With no silly excuses of any kind (i.e. "Weak" console) Sure, it's not as powerful as PS4, but if developers take the time to learn the actual Wii U structure and capabilities and if they use it efficiently, they can bring a top-notch graphical experience on Wii U almost as good looking as the PS4's graphics. There's no excuses. I'm looking forward for this game
Why it took an entire year for Nintendo to release something like this? This is exactly what it should be advertised since Wii U's day one! It finally uses the right words to notify casual people that this is an entirely new console-experience, and not just "and upgrade" from Wii like pasts cheesy commercials. It tells you the coolest features of Wii U such as off-tv play and Miiverse was mentioned almost like if it was the exclusive Facebook of Wii U, props for that. The coolest thing is how they mention also all the big games coming soon as well! (putting MK8 footage was an excellent idea). I'm so happy to see this, it means Nintendo is finally putting their stuff together with Wii U in a very smart and logical way.
It was a satisfying Nintendo Direct, probably the best since E3's Direct. Great new announcements, awesome trailers (Dat Rosalina intro trailer) and surprises with NES Remix and Chibi-Robo. Now I just hope the next Nintendo Direct would be focused only on Wii U and they reveal big games just like this January's 2013 Direct when Nintendo revealed Wind Waker HD, X by Monolith Soft, etc.
Woah! The Director of the most critically acclaimed Mario games was the director of this! That's why this game is so damn fun an addictive, I think this is better than leaderboards because you can actually interact in some way with the actual creators of the game, and that's waaay more cool than anything.
Nice read. Indie devs are getting the attention they desserve on home consoles, some games are very, very good and some of them were created by just one guy! (No Man's Sky is an example, created by just 4 people, geez!). My dream is to be a full indie developer and create games for Nintendo platforms so they can be advertised among their biggest games on the eShop. That or being part of the EAD Tokyo developers team... First option seems more realistic tough
Absolutely well desserved, it desserves all the praise. Unfortunately, it would have just a little of it. Gaming sites are too busy bashing on Nintendo because Wii U sales and because their games are not gray-violent-bloody-hardcore, you know, the usual in those websites so they can have thousands of clicks...
Most people right now is like "Meh, it's okay" but I think this game would experience the same as Super Mario 3D World when everyone was kinda dissapointed by that game and end up being one of the best of 2013. With this game would be the same case, it already looks more fun, attractive and challenging than New Super Mario Bros U and Rayman Legends together!
Time for some drastic announcements, Nintendo. Seriously, announce something big, make PS4/Xbone owners to say, "Wow now I really want a Wii U for that game" it could be a new trailer of Bayonetta 2, a new Smash trailer showing the Online functions, An X by Monolith Soft trailer and a possible release date, don't waste precious Nintendo Direct time showing games we already know, I mean it's ok if you do that but if it's going to be another trailer featuring Cranky Kong on DKCTF then it would not be cool to watch.
I'm very excited tough, Spring would have Mario Kart 8 and I'm sure they would show a new awesome trailer with the new functions and a release date, also a new unnanounced game that could appear on Spring (Yoshi Yarn please???) Kirby 3DS, GBA and N64 games on VC, etc. Looking forward for tomorrow
Let's keep the optimism guys, It could have been worst, at least it sold 100x more than past month so that's a good thing. In Japan it has a pretty good week as well.
So if Nintendo sold 50k Wii U past month and it had an increase of 340%, it's around 220-240k units this month... it's a huge boost but unfortunately not enough to compete with sales of PS4/Xbone... I just don't know what they could do next other than release Mario Kart 8 AS. SOON. AS. POSSIBLE. and don't even think about delaying the damn game, Nintendo!
Let's keep it real guys, 3D Mario games have never sold insanely, even if they are absolute masterpieces. New Super Mario Bros series is the one that sell A LOT, that's why the past holiday Wii U sold very well (and because of the hype of being a new console). So honestly, this numbers were expected, that's why they need to release MK8 ASAP, that's a definite system-seller that even grandmas known and want it to play.
The only thing I expect in this upcoming months is a BIG Nintendo Direct focused entirely on Wii U so they can talk about all the unnanounced games in the works.
Or maybe Nintendo doesn't even care about those numbers and they would keep doing the same: cheesy-awkward commercials that keeps confusing people about what Wii U exactly is, delaying big games and release a single NES sport game on the Virtual Console each week. Either way I love my Wii U.
Damn that super Power-Up when you can suck literally everything... even a train! So awesome! And it has little features that uses the gyroscope one when you have to tilt the 3DS to move Kirby when it's in a vehicle. I love when a new Nintendo game is revealed, it does it in a very underwhelming way, then, months after they show the same game with an epic trailer and BOOM! It's when we assure once again that Nintendo would never ever loose it's unique touch on bringing epic and wonderful 1st-party game experiences.
It was expected. There's no way two of the biggest system sellers of Nintendo MK8 and Smash could release on the same season/period. Smash is most likely to be the big holiday 2k14 title for Nintendo. But I'm glad that at least MK8 is still aiming to release on spring I'm tremendously looking forward to play it in glorious HD/60 FPS... and the online... omggggggg.
Woah! I'm looking the Japanese website for Dragon Quest and it looks so damn cool! (Akira Toriyama character design FTW!!!) And of course we would never going to be able to play this game on America-Europe
I'm genuinely happy to see a boost on Wii U sales! Slowly gaining momentum in a country where home consoles are not so strong anymore is just a great achievement, hope it continues this way through the entire month. That photo of the kid buying his Wii U is so cute! He is like: "Yes I would like to pay with my credit card please", haha.
Seriously, I'm still mad that I wasted 3 hours of my life watching that horrible, horrible show. Everything was so wrong and awkward (announcing the winner of Studio of the Year -supposed to be one of the biggest awards- and not a single clap, not even from the camera-man or something...) So honestly, I'm very glad Nintendo didn't bother on showing something big on this awful show.
The update we are waiting for! This is really nice and you can view the Miiverse screenshots in 3D! Now the screenshots from the 3DS version of Smash can be seen on it's full glory and definition. The only downside is that Miiverse on 3DS is kinda slooow, but not so terrible tough, hope there's a minor update soon for that.
Ahhhhh this is nice! I'm still haven't played ALBW because I was hoping to see ALTTP on VC so I can play it first, and here it is!!! Oh but it's for Europe... but it's like 98% probability this is going to be the same download line-up for America as well.
Total respect for Reggie and his answers, Geoff was just trying to diggin' for more and expecting Reggie to leak some info... It actually kinda work. Note when Geoff asked "We're gonna se some Metroid?" and Reggie was like "Of co--, well who's to say that?" Either way, I'm pretty excited for DKCTF, looks fantastic and this show was a total failure in every aspect. I'm still mad that I wasted 3 hours of my weekend watching this, my first and last time for sure.
Visuals are never going to be more important than gameplay... Ryse: Son of Rome sure it has incredible realistic graphics... but it's acclaimed by critics to be the weakest next-gen launch title for being boring and repetitive. And honestly I'm dissapointed for what Xbone/PS4 has to offer right now, all of those games are basically the same as the past generation but only with slightly better graphics, there's nothing creative or exciting more than just graphical enhancement. At least Wii U offers unique experiences that are and feel genuinely fun and there's hope people start to appreciate that in order to increase Wii U sales.
@Jazzer94 if Reggie just unveils the 4th character on DK and a new trailer of it I would hate Reggie for ever! This is Nintendo's opportunity to attract hardcore gamers so it better be a game that can interact with that area, either Bayo 2 or Smash.
Ohhh! I have never seen any of this silly "awards" thing. But I would be there watching it just to see what Nintendo shows I don't think it would be Zelda U, Aonuma mentioned that we have to wait until E3 to see it. So my best guess it's that is going to be either a new Bayo 2 trailer or Mario Kart 8 showing the new online features... Or Yoshi Yarn! Damn we haven't seen any news for that game in almost a year, let's just hope Nintendo is still working on that game
It would do decent, not too espectacular but enough to keep the momentum until the next wave of big games such as DKCR and Mario Kart 8 the last one is going to be without a doubt a big system seller. I even predict some MK 8 bundles with the console and everything.
I'm just... sad, man! I shouldn't care too much but the truth is that it really affects me that such a brilliant and innovative console (let's be honest, is more innovative than PS4/Xbone) is failing so... miserably? yeah miserably is the right word -in terms of sales of course-. But let's just keep in mind this: Sales never determine the quality of a product, CoD: Ghosts was #1 seller on several countries and that title is one probably the weakest game on the franchise. The same applies for Just Dance, nobody here plays that but for parents and casual people is the joy, and it always appear on top charts.
Also, the hype of PS4 is expected, is the most powerful console at a decent price, but honestly, what's next?? The next big game for PS4 on Q1 is coming until march 2014, (Infamous: Second Son... and it doesn't look that attractive to me honestly), following the release of Destiny and Watch_Dogs, both of them multiplatform (And Watch_Dogs is coming for Wii U as well), so the games they have available right now to keep them busy until march is just kinda weak and not that great... plus, it's not backwards compatible so they still have to use PS3 and that's just a big thumbs down for me.
Wii U owners have it waaay better on Q1, DKC: Tropical Freeze in february, Watch_Dogs and the all mighty top-seller Mario Kart 8, all while we can enjoy an awesome top-quality library of games already such as Super Mario 3D World and since Wii U is backwards compatible we can enjoy all of the great game there as well. I bought Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Metroid: Other M and Kirby's Epic Yarn, all while I still need to finish SM3DW, Wind Waker HD, Earthbound on VC, etc. So I'm going to be very busy until february when Donkey Kong Country releases. It's a bad day for Wii U, but the Holidays are not finished yet and 2014 is very promising for Wii U. (If somebody read all the way through here, you are wonderful and thank you for reading all of this).
Reggie is right in a certain way, software drives hardware, that's why Wii U is the perfect console to buy this holiday, it has unique games and experiences no available anywhere else, the problem is how they are going to keep this train going? Well, right now it's not too much of a problem because 2014 looks like an awesome year for Wii U with Mario Kart 8 and Smash as the biggest titles that sell a lot, plus all the unnanounced stuff (I can smell a big Nintendo Direct is coming soon like the one on January 2013 when they announced Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart and the new 3D Action Mario.) The only thing now is that Wii U needs to sell more and I'm glad that looks like is finally happening, meaning that people is realizing that in reality, PS4 and Xbone are not that great right now, with those poor launch titles and features that 70% of the time doesn't work (cough Kinect).
Go U! I say it's okay to say it's kid friendly BUT the truth is that I have seen more people around my age (20+) using Wii U more and more. Remember there's no just Super Mario 3D World on the console, there's a nice library of top-notch quality games as well such as Pikmin 3, TW101 and Wind Waker HD among others and the truth is that right now, 2014 is the most promising year for Wii U compared to PS4/Xbone when with both of those the most anticipated games are just Infamous: Second Son, Titanfall, Destiny (FPS, FPS everywhere, ugh) and Watch_Dogs (this one available on Wii U as well.)
Total respect to Sakurai-san. I admire all people like him who are very passionate about what they like to do the most and I'm sure the new Smash Bros is going to be the BEST!
@Hernandez you're right. I don't know why people is being too exagerated by saying Wii U would be discontinued soon, that's not gonna happen, and this console would have great games on it's 5 year life-span. Gamecube sales-type is what we can expect now, but again, let's wait for the America-Europe-Australia numbers to form clear conclusions, in those areas is where I'm sure it would do 100x better than Japan.
It was expected to sell this low considering the user-base of people owning a Wii U in Japan is still low, But the sad part is that how it just sold over 5,000 units... This just leave us at the conclusion that Japan is not a home-console territory anymore. Handhelds are taking over and looks like is going to stay for a while. I'm sure that even PS4 is going to sell low in Japan once it releases next year and for Xbone... well I don't know why Microsoft bothers anymore to release it there, is not going to sell anything.
FORTUNATELY, 3D Mario games tend to sold a whole lot more in America-Europe and by the amount of hype about this game over here (let's remember the past week was in #1 position on best sellers at Amazon, was sold out and when they put it on stock again, it made it to go into the top ten again), I'm sure it would do better, a lot better than Japan.
I love how Miyamoto is very passionate on his hobbies other than videogames that he always end up using them as inspiration for their games! Miyamoto and a lot of Nintendo developers loves art very much (how we can forget those levels inspired on the Starry Night painting by Van Gogh on NSMBU or the new Yoshi's Island game for 3DS that is basically an Impressionist painting made videogame) and that's fantastic! They implement topics rarely seen on videogames and that's why I love Nintendo, damn!
Next E3 is going to be awesome for Nintendo, A new IP announced, a new Zelda U announced, and who knows what other big misterious projects are working on right now (I'm I the only one who is excited for that Yoshi Yarn game? Even tough, it's been almost a year since it's announcement and we haven't hear any news for that game yet, what if Nintendo stopped working on it? omg no ). I feel that Smash Bros. is going to be once again at E3 2014 and that is going to be their Holiday 2014 big game just like Super Mario 3D World is right now.
Very smart from Nintendo to release Zelda ALBW on the same day as the Xbox One and Super Mario 3D World on the same day as the PS4 on Europe if you think about it.
The power of the Internet! Hope this becomes a reality, if we made it on asking for Earthbound on the eShop we can make it as well this time! It would benefit everyone, Nintendo and customers and it would be excellent to increase the hype for Bayonetta 2.
It's common for new consoles to sell a lot on it's first week because of hype, and naturally those numbers are going to decrease for X1/PS4 after that. @I-AM-REGGIE is right, the ones who buy Xbone right now are just fanboys because seriously, that console doesn't have ANYTHING attractive, even with Kinect and the voice control gimmick. Their launch games have been doing terrible on reviews and once people in the UK have the chance to play them, they would realize "seriously? This is it, Xbone?". Right now Wii U have the brightest future in terms of games, Xbone in the other hand... the only known anticipated exclusive game coming soon is Titanfall (oh, another FPS, what a revolutionary Next-Gen thing)... the other ones are multiplatform games anyways (Watch_Dogs -coming for Wii U as well- and Destiny) Because seriously, what other attractive exclusive games Xbone is getting starting 2014?? Even with Halo 5 that console is just a big EWW for me.
Wii U without the Gamepad simply would not work. It's like the Xbone can't work if it doesn't have Kinect. That Kinect thing is the reason of why that console cost $500 and if you think about it for a moment... that Kinect device is in certain way, useless, because you just use it as a gimmicky way of navigating the menus with voice controls, but you can EASILY navigate through it with the control and yet, nobody seems to complain... But with the Gamepad, everyone is like "yeah the Gamepad is the problem of why Wii U it's so expensive and a confusing console, it's just a gimmick device, Nintendo is doomed for ever!"
Why? The Gamepad REALLY works and it's totally necessary for the console, lot's of great games use it in brilliant ways, while Xbone and Kinect just have a few LAME games that use Kinect and look how awful the reviews have been doing with those games.Oh, and don't forget they are at the $60 full retail price...
In my opinion Wii U would start 2014 with decent numbers, not huge numbers (or who knows?) but enoug to keep momentum until the arrive of the very first big seller: Mariokart 8. Everyone with PS4/Xbone are loving the new menus, the new controllers... but what about the games? Another generation full of FPSs? Sports games? Realistic and boring racing games? For reference, the most anticipated title on Xbone right now is... yep, a FPS (Titanfall). Those games would continue being boring, monotone, repetitive, etc. But of course, nobody cares because if it has guns, a movie-like story and beautiful graphics then is going to be a smash hit blockbuster title (cough -The Last of Us, GTA V- cough.) I choose to have fun while gaming, that's why I continue supporting Nintendo, their creativity would never cease to amaze me.
I remember having so much fun with Pac Man World back on the PS1... Glad this game is not too much of a shovelware but rather a nice and decent platformer game to play on a relaxing weekend. I would get it eventually for sure

Why it took an entire year for Nintendo to release something like this? This is exactly what it should be advertised since Wii U's day one! It would do decent, not too espectacular but enough to keep the momentum until the next wave of big games such as DKCR and Mario Kart 8 the last one is going to be without a doubt a big system seller. I even predict some MK 8 bundles with the console and everything.
Re: PS4 and Xbox One Surpass Wii U Lifetime Sales in the UK
I'm just...
Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Emphasizes the Wii U's Unique Content in Sales Pitch
Re: Wii U Wins "Deals Award" For Being One Of The Best Kids Items This Holiday Season
Re: Masahiro Sakurai Outlines His Heavy Smash Bros. Workload
Total respect to Sakurai-san. I admire all people like him who are very passionate about what they like to do the most and I'm sure the new Smash Bros is going to be the BEST!
Re: Super Mario 3D World Underwhelms on Japanese Chart Début
@Hernandez you're right. I don't know why people is being too exagerated by saying Wii U would be discontinued soon, that's not gonna happen, and this console would have great games on it's 5 year life-span. Gamecube sales-type is what we can expect now, but again, let's wait for the America-Europe-Australia numbers to form clear conclusions, in those areas is where I'm sure it would do 100x better than Japan.
Re: Super Mario 3D World Underwhelms on Japanese Chart Début
Re: New Iwata Asks Takes In the Louvre and its 3DS Guide
I love how Miyamoto is very passionate on his hobbies other than videogames that he always end up using them as inspiration for their games! Miyamoto and a lot of Nintendo developers loves art very much (how we can forget those levels inspired on the Starry Night painting by Van Gogh on NSMBU or the new Yoshi's Island game for 3DS that is basically an Impressionist painting made videogame) and that's fantastic! They implement topics rarely seen on videogames and that's why I love Nintendo, damn!
Re: Former Pikmin Director Currently Working On "Original Title" for Nintendo
Next E3 is going to be awesome for Nintendo, A new IP announced, a new Zelda U announced, and who knows what other big misterious projects are working on right now (I'm I the only one who is excited for that Yoshi Yarn game? Even tough, it's been almost a year since it's announcement and we haven't hear any news for that game yet, what if Nintendo stopped working on it? omg no ). I feel that Smash Bros. is going to be once again at E3 2014 and that is going to be their Holiday 2014 big game just like Super Mario 3D World is right now.
Re: iPhone Gaming Controller Could Mean "The End Of Nintendo", Claims Investment Site
The "Nintendo is Doomed" guy never fails to appear every single week, especially when it comes to iPhone/Apple fanboys. How could you say "The end of Nintendo" when most of the smarthphone gaming market are just terrible flash/based games that cost 1 to 10 dollars? Tell me an iPhone game that's better than Pokémon X/Y? Zelda ALBW?? Right, none! With iPhone you would get million of games that's for sure, but I prefer quality instead of quantity and that's why Nintendo is still more than relevant on the handhled market. 3DS is doing better than ever even with the strong competition of smarthphones because there's still A LOT of people out there who prefer to experience quality gaming handheld over cheap/bad smarthphone games.
Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Squeezes Into UK All-Format Top 10
Very smart from Nintendo to release Zelda ALBW on the same day as the Xbox One and Super Mario 3D World on the same day as the PS4 on Europe if you think about it.
Re: Fan Campaign for Bayonetta Wii U Release Kicks Into Gear
The power of the Internet! Hope this becomes a reality, if we made it on asking for Earthbound on the eShop we can make it as well this time! It would benefit everyone, Nintendo and customers and it would be excellent to increase the hype for Bayonetta 2.
Re: Xbox One UK Sales Set to Pass Wii U's Lifetime to Date Figures
Re: Talking Point: The GamePad and its Role Defining the Wii U
Re: Review: Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (Wii U)
I remember having so much fun with Pac Man World back on the PS1... Glad this game is not too much of a shovelware but rather a nice and decent platformer game to play on a relaxing weekend. I would get it eventually for sure
Re: North American Club Nintendo Releases a Gorgeous Link Between Worlds Poster Set
Damn it!! Those are so beautiful! Too bad Club Nintendo doesn't apply here in Mexico
Re: Review: Mario Party: Island Tour (3DS)
Oh I was expecting a low score to be honest . But it's a nice choice if you want to have fun in multiplayer with friends on a handheld.
