It's Saturday once again, which means we've made it all the way to the end of yet another week. This week brought with it a Wind Waker revelation in Zelda: Breath of the Wild and news of a special Armoured Mewtwo making waves in Pokémon GO, but now it's time to sit back and talk about our weekend plans.

As always, we've done just that below, and we'd love for you to join in via our poll and comment sections. Enjoy!

This weekend, I'll be kicking back with a bit of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It's been an awful long time since I last played, so I dread to think how many weeds will be lying around... Still, I've got a lot of packing to do for my holibobs next week, so I need something relaxing!

I'm also thinking about diving back into Axiom Verge. Those who know me know I love a good Metroidvania, and Axiom Verge is undoubtedly one of the best!

This weekend I'll be splitting my time between the steampunk platforming and puzzle solving of Another Sight and the semi-open-world giant battling of Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle. The latter is like a mashup of Spider-Man and Monster Hunter and I can't wait to take this extended version for a swing.

Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered still has its Martian claws in me. The prospect of destroying every building I encounter elevates even the most forgettable of missions. I love open worlds on Switch, so this is really scratching an itch for me.

Growing up on the SEGA side of the tracks, Nintendo’s last gen was where I addressed most of the yawning gaps in my gaming CV – obvious stuff like Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pokémon and Metroid which I came to adore despite sometimes arriving at them relatively dismissively. So it’s appropriate that my 3DS is powered on for the first time in 14 months, as I finally dive into Dragon Quest VIII.

My previous Dragon Quest experience is minimal – I played about 30 minutes of DQIV at one point in the distant past – but with the imminent releases of the Smash DLC and Dragon Quest XI S, the impulse to understand Japan’s national video game has finally become too big to ignore.

This weekend I’ll be playing catch-up (as usual) with various games already downloaded on my favourite Nintendo-branded handheld hybrid video games-playing device. Specifically, I’d like to finish Gris. I've played an hour or two already and that game is a relaxing tonic of a platformer - just what I’m after.

On the other end of the platforming scale, I also want to dive into Super Mario Maker 2 and sample some creations, so I’ll be hitting the Nintendo Life Community page and downloading some of your finest levels. After completing 100% of Story Mode, I fancy trying Endless Mode – after watching Alex take on some Super Expert courses, I’m eager to see how many I could get through. In fact, I’ll probably do that first and then calm my blood pressure with Gris afterwards. At some point I'll actually build something with it, too...

Completely out of the blue, I find myself entirely hooked on a game called Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! and will no doubt squeeze in the odd half an hour or so whenever I get the chance this weekend.

It's not the type of game I'd usually go for, but I'm very happy that I decided to load it up and see what it was all about. It brings back horrible memories of the time I worked in a ridiculously stressful coffee bar, but somehow makes the frantic mess of keeping on top of people's orders really fun. There's something immensely satisfying about pulling off a whole ten-minute bonanza of button presses without making a single mistake and I keep going back for more.

The Summer of Switch continues this weekend with more Super Mario Maker 2, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, SEGA AGES: Virtua Racing, Mortal Kombat 11, Crash Team Racing and ARCADE ARCHIVES Ninja Spirit because old age is dulling my reflexes and that is simply unacceptable. A little bit of FIFA 19 is also in order because I want to play out both the Women’s World Cup and Copa América finals.

On that note, my game of the week goes to Psyvariar Delta. Reviewing duties put this oldie back to my weekly gaming rotation in a big way. I wonder how much wear and tear I’m doing to my arcade stick to get those ships rolling… or my left hand, now that I think about it. I need that one to play piano chords.
