Publisher The Arcade Crew and developer JoyMasher have today announced that Blazing Chrome will be blasting its way onto Nintendo Switch and other platforms on 11th July.
The game is a run-and-gun platformer heavily inspired by - and acting as an homage to - retro classics Contra and Metal Slug. Its enemy-infested action is said to "harken back to the golden days of side-scrolling shooters with modern touches ensuring its gameplay feels as precise as it does authentic".
Releasing alongside the launch date announcement is a brand new trailer, which you can check out for yourself above. It showcases hidden characters within the game including ‘Suhaila,’ a razor girl with a robotic arm, and the skilled and deadly ninja ‘Raijin’. These new characters are armed with entirely new ninja-based weaponry and skills - expect to find a deadly katana, higher jumping possibilities and a feisty dash move.

Oh boy, year of Contra it seems.
Whoa this is legit af.
Part Contra, part Shatterhand, all SNES style. (McDonald's jingle) I'm lovin' it.
This looks great. Love contra and this looks like it massively owes its existence to it. Look forward to seeing if this is good.
@BeefSanta Seriously, I HAVE to pick this up to play with my subs.
OK, really liked the trailer... Need more hours in my day with so many good games coming out lately. It's hard having a girlfriend, working and been a gamer this days.
This is one of the games that Limited Run Games will be releasing physically later this year.
If it plays as good as it looks I’d be no less than ecstatic for a game like this. Retro all the way
Really really nice. I think I will buy it.
The trailer sold me, solid looking effort.
This looks like a Genesis/Megadrive Contra game that was lost to time.
Absolutely picking this one up.
I so am looking forward to this. Although plan to get the LRG physical release I may buy this digitally as well as a) Can’t wait b) Arcadey action heavy titles like this are great for short quick plays and digital does help for easy access at any time.
@NintendoFan4Lyf sounds hard. That's why I have 2 pugs... To ease out the maternal instincts of my girl. Hope it works for a long time.
This actually looks quite promising to me. As long as it isn't overly challenging, I might bite. What is the price point?
Oh yeah, this is my jam, more so than the actual new announced Frankenstein that is Contra: Rogue Corps...
Been waiting on this.
@BeefSanta Kudos for mentioning Shatterhand. Nice little game almost no one knows.
@NintendoFan4Lyf guess like in 2 years I will be making the same reply has you. I'm living with my girl for a year, guess the next step is children.
Getting bored of these retro graphics. I played this stuff over 25 years ago! Come on!
@mist I myself will never get tired of retro graphics, grow up with them and love them, like tacos. I will never get tired of tacos, I will eat tacos til the day I die, maybe a taco will be the cause of my death... A good death indeed.
Oh wow this looks brilliant!! A little Hagane influence there too perhaps?!?
Day one buy for sure, hopefully Konami look at this and see the potential in these guys.
Can't wait. This game reminds me of Contra Hard Corps which is a wonderful thing.
Honestly I think this genre is starting to get a bit overdone, same way I felt about 2D platformers and metroidvania games after a while. I can only buy so much of the same type of game until I get tired of it or simply feel satisfied with the variety that I already have.
@mist A lot of people are. The whole retro indie movement is getting a bit ridiculous these days.
Had my eye on this beauty for a while. Looks amazing, day one for sure. This looks like the new Contra not that mess Konami’s shown at E3.
@PACO_PEREZ
Likewise grew up playing 2D, love it till the day I die. And then my ghost will love it some more 😂😂
@Axelay71 My Man!!
Looks exponentially better than the new Contra. Looking forward to this!
This looks terrific!
I've been keeping an eye on this one for a while. Looks great. My only issue is the screen shake is pretty substantial and makes my brain hurt. I hope that can be toggled.
Looks way better than the new Contra game Konami is excreting out, for sure.
@PACO_PEREZ
👍🏻👍🏻
This looks great, I'm in.
@Lemmy_the_Koopa as the internet might say: this is the contra Konami doesn’t want you to see!
@PACO_PEREZ @Axelay71 I'm down with y'all! New style 3D games are a nice change of pace, but 2D IS gaming to me!
This has been one of my most anticipated games.
Ok, you got my attention.
@PACO_PEREZ I just started making my own tacos this year (handmade tortillas, salsas, taco meats). I literally think about tacos everyday now and make them every couple days
Day one, baby! Been waiting for this for a long time~
id like a physical version of the Metal Slug collection for Switch
@NinChocolate tacos are life!!! I myself am a potential hazard anywhere in the process of making any food, but my girl is great at it (and in every corner here in Mexico are great tacos).
So, I limit myself to eat n enjoy. Great that you are doing that! You are a good example in life PERIOD
@PACO_PEREZ
Totally mate 3D games are great, but 2D pixel art gaming is the best😄
This looks very promising, clearly heavily influenced by Contra Hard Corps. If it can deliver on being a spiritual successor to that then we're in for a treat
@PACO_PEREZ tacos are life, indeed. I envy your taco corners there. I watch youtuber Pisuarez for inspiration and ideas. One day I’ll make it down there and learn from the masters in person
Looks straight up like a 16-bit Contra. Not seeing much of anything like Metal Slug though.
Looks pretty good. But I agree with vio, its more Contra then Metal slug.
