The Media Create chart results are out for Japan, and after some quiet weeks they've brought some notable releases and changes in momentum; not necessarily in Nintendo's favour, either.

Persona 5 is the week's biggest success story, taking the top two spots on PS4 and PS3, followed by Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 on the same platforms. Yo-kai Watch 3 (with two versions) is still selling in five figures, and further down for Wii U and 3DS are some evergreen titles that are hanging on. Moving on to hardware, as expected the arrival of the new 'slim' model has prompted a surge in PS4 sales, with Persona 5 also likely to have played a significant role. There are small declines for the New 3DS models and Wii U, but notably this is the first week in which Media Create is recording 2DS sales. It didn't do so for the limited edition Pokemon Virtual Console bundles that arrived back in February, but Nintendo has now 'relaunched' the budget system in five colours after phasing the Pokémon models out earlier in the year. As the official website shows, these models are targeting young gamers in particular and secured second place.

  1. PlayStation 4 – 96,433 (560)
  2. 2DS – 18,754 (NA)
  3. New 3DS LL – 15,808 (17,122)
  4. PlayStation Vita – 12,931 (10,280)
  5. New 3DS – 3,047 (3,184)
  6. Wii U – 2,703 (3,527)
  7. PlayStation 3 – 1,099 (1,143)
  8. 3DS – 425 (412)
  9. Xbox One – 156 (232)
  10. 3DS LL – 106 (113)

It wasn't a great week for Nintendo, and it may have hoped for better results from the 2DS launch; in any case, it'll be interesting to see how PS4 and 2DS momentum hold up next week.
