Nintendo of America recently announced a National Smash Bros. Championships in the US, but there's some good news in the UK with confirmation that an equivalent contest will run in the country.
Nintendo UK has confirmed that online registration starts on 3rd October and will run until 8th October, with entrants to the following heats needing their own copy of the game and a system. When registering you'll need to pick from one of eight venues for a qualifying heat; these will take place in GAME stores at the following locations on 11-12th October.
- Edinburgh, St James Centre
- Hull, St Stephens Centre
- Sheffield, Meadowhall
- Manchester, Trafford Centre
- Birmingham, Bullring
- Stratford, London, Westfield
- Chelmsford, Exchange way
- Bristol, Cribbs Causeway
Four from each heat will qualify to make up 32 finalists, with the grand event to crown the UK champion taking place at York Hall in London on 31st October; the winner gets prestige, a Wii U, a copy of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U when it arrives this Winter, and a goody bag. The runner up also gets the game and goody bag, while all that make it to the final will leave with something — probably a Nintendo themed bag with some nice merchandise.
When the time comes on 3rd October you'll be able to register at this official web page, though at the time of writing it's not live.
Are any of you UK gamers planning to enter this tournament?

Once again Wales and NI have been left out. Because Smash Bros fans don't exist here clearly. Really getting fed up of this now....
Ooooo. I'm honestly tempted to try this! I could reach the GAME in London.
Aww, if only it were a week or two later, I'd be living in Bristol without a massive load of work preventing me from joining in.
On a similar note, isn't this a fairly quick turn about for this kind of thing? The similar Pokémon Battle Tournament earlier this year had a good few weeks advance notice, this is 11 days from now until the whole thing is over. I know that you don't have to build a team for it and all that, but still...
Exciting! But I suppose I can't use US 3ds and US copy of a game for this compatition, can I?
I might be able to take part.
Why not scandinavia Nintendo!? WHY!?
Here's hoping this comes to the Netherlands too, specifically FirstLook which I'll be attending.
@bouncer0304 we only get Edinburgh :/ they probably cut the glasgow venue because we voted yes xD
I hope they'll do something similar at the Italian GamesWeek event in Milan. I would get one anyway, but actually winning a WiiU would help a lot.
Will probably go down to the Stratford one.
@PvtOttobot ah now that's where Wales went wrong- because we didn't vote for independence we're still ignored. Maybe if we had we would have been noticed and had Cardiff added to that list as well XD What are we like! Well if you go enjoy and best of luck
Put it on twitch!
Pity nothing for Northern Ireland but, thems the breaks
Oct 1st, can we get a date now please?
@bouncer0304 The only place I could see them bothering with in Wales would be Cardiff and at is a stone throws away from Bristol anyway.
IIRC this is a lot more locations than the Pokemon championships were at.
@Nintendo_Ninja Agreed!
Twitch that S**t!
It's annoying there's none in the North East, oh well, I guess we'll have to hold our own at my Streetpass group.
Just moved to Birmingham! I'll have to sign up and give it a go
Eeeh, I would but I'd probably get beat in the first round.
Ugh, no NI, apparently we don't exist. Just like the Pokémon tournament they had earlier this year...
Wait, not even Wales is getting it? Now that's just unfair.
@bouncer0304 I'll probably take a train into Edinburgh with some friends... If I get in that is! Last time (the pokemon XY tournament) I booked like two months early but got rejected D:
Some of you in the UK might not be be aware that the Smash community of the UK already runs a grass-roots championship, with tournaments happening up and down the country for Melee, Brawl, Project M (a popular mod), and now Smash 4 3DS! Just this August we finished Season 1 of the championship and it was a huge success, and Season 2 kicked off last week (now including a Doubles championship). So if you're looking for more Smash competition throughout the year, head on over to www.smashbrosuk.com for more information, join the SmashUK Facebook group, and check out videos from our previous tournaments.
Please note that www.smashbrosuk.com is currently being updated and not all content for the new season is online yet (such as the Smash 4 league tables)
