Stealth Inc 2 is a puzzle platformer of a different kind coming to Wii U later this year, and it's been known for a while that the game would feature a level editor, but the level of freedom is probably greater than you expected.
Speaking to us at EGX, Rob Clarke gives a deeper look into the editor's capabilities:
The tools in the level editor are the tools that we've used. The only difference is obviously we're developing on computers and the level editor uses the GamePad.
This freedom even extends to the more aesthetic sides of the levels, such as soft, pulsating lights to projected text on the walls that features prominently in the single player story.
The level editor was an important feature in the previous instalment in the series, and Clarke suggests that it will prove itself to be an even more substantial part of the sequel:
One of our level designers was actually making levels on the PC version before we brought them on to work as staff.
If only ten percent of the levels that are made are going to be super-high quality, then you're still going to have another ten or twenty hours of extra gameplay if you're looking for a challenge.
Will you be making the most of the user-generated content, or are you a budding level designer yourself? Voice your opinions in the comments section below!

Great! That's a great effort! I'm glad a game like this is coming to Wii U.
Yup this and Bayonetta 2 are going to make me very very busy in October…oh and Smash too LOL!
i think my wallet is crying...
Speaking of level editors, any word on SSB U having one or not?
My kids love making stuff in level editors - they're still bummed about the Toki Tori 2 lie - so if this is actually in the game maybe we'll pick it up. They can't wait for Mario Maker.
Does this game even have a trailer yet?
After Hydroventure which is in the Top 5 of my 170 WiiWare games I'm very excited about Curve Studios second Nintendo home console release.
@rjejr
A lie is something different. It was just a broken promise.
And it was explained in detail not just once. It made sense to leave it out of the Wii U version because it had to be done from the ground-up. This isn't an easily ported Unity-game after all. The Wii U isn't compatible with (and doesn't have the rights for) Microsoft Windows or Toki Tori 2's Windows-based level editor.
AND the game is still worth more than anyone has paid for.
Two Tribes even released 4 more amazing Wii U games for just 2 bucks because a minority of people were sad about the lack of a much too complicated level editor. How can you be so resentful?
@rjejr Have your kids tried Pullblox and its editor?
Is this a timed exclusive or full on never hitting other consoles exclusive?
This level editor on the gamepad has me excited. I was unsure if I could afford the game with so much to buy this year, but this article made my mind up! This is how third party developers should be utilising the gamepad!
@jariw - No, I think that's too much puzzle, not enough platforming for them. And not platformng in the traditional sense, just platforming as in building a level. They love making levels in "Granny in Paradise" which is just a 1 screen puzzle game. To me it's not even a game. "Age of Booty" is a good game w/ a level editor. I have $10 credit on eShop b/c I bough HW on disc maybe we should at least get the eShop version. Or Just buy the HW $19.99 season pass.
@SKTTR - My kids bought a game b/c they were told it would have a level editor. There are laws against "bait and switch". And I wouldn't call it resentful, I'ld call it learning from our mistakes. Anybody can say anything about a game that will be included after it releases. I should thank Two Tribes for teaching my kids a lesson about disappointment.
@gojiguy Trailer will be coming soon! Glad to see you folks excited about the game!
If any of you are at EGX this weekend, come play the game in the Nintendo area!
@sam_robinson Good! I've been trying to share the game with friends but the only videos are developer walkthroughs and stuff. Can't wait to see it!
Looking forward to this game i hope it turns out great.
@rjejr Trust me on this, you want Pushmo World. Just a fantastic puzzle game, but has a full suite for building puzzles, and many build entire plat forming levels out if the blocks. It's basically like a 2.5 D Minecraft, where blocks pull in and out.
You should REALLY consider trying that game out. It's easily my fave downloadable title on the entire Wii U, possibly Nintendo's best ever digital offering.
@SKTTR
very well put and a hell of a lot more polite than i would be. of all the companies to accuse of bad faith(which is what i believe they were trying to insinuate) two tribes is the least deserving.
@rjer
its not bait and switch. and you do sound resentful. and using your kids as a fig leaf for your own apalling attitude is lame beyond words
it was humpty dumpty who said "words mean what i want them to mean"
i think i played a demo of the first on. 2D-stealth games feel weird for me. not fun at all. 3D stealth games however are a blast!
Love level editors, especially when you can share them online. Makes games last so much longer. Just look at Cubemen 2, people are making some amazing stuff so far!
I'm reconsidering my purchase of an Xbox One due to the amount of content coming to Wii U and 3DS, I won't have time to play One.
I honestly probably wouldn't use the level editor regardless of its robust features. I'm not that into level creation, but I wouldn't mind playing other people's levels!
@JaxonH - You can't promote both the difficult DKC:TF and the fun that is level building in Pushmo, how am I supposed to typecast you
My kids are currently busy playing HW, smashing is better than building when you're a boy, and then they'll get to smash some more starting Friday, so not sure when they would actually play Pushmo, but it could make a good Hanukkah present
BTW, is there a big difference between 3DS and Wii U versions? Are you recommending one over the other?
@rjejr The 3DS versions are great too, and the 3D fits well with the blocks, but I like Pushmo World best. You can create QR codes for created puzzles on Wii U, then scan the QR code on the gamepad or TV with the 3DS camera to import the puzzle into the 3DS version, and visa versa.
The game is solid, but the user created puzzles in the shape of Mega Man, Link, Mario, Yoshi's, Solid Snake, Sonic, etc are what really makes the game a delight. Just endless user created puzzles, all of them pixel perfect as if Nintendo designed them.
And btw, I'm a rare breed that enjoys everything from puzzle games like Pushmo and Art of Balance, to hardcore platformers like DKC and Rayman, to futuristic racers like F-Zero, to cart racers, everything from Pikmin to Star Fox to Zelda to Mario, Fire Emblem and Metroid, indie games like Armillo and Stealth Inc to Shovel Night and Siesta Fiesta, to AAA games of all sorts and everything in between. I pretty much play everything, except for realistic racers, sports SIMS (I do like Wii Sports Club and the Mario sports titles) and vulgar, gory or overly explicit games. Like, I hate Mortal Kombat, have no interest in Bloodborne, and even Saints Row 4 is a no go for me. Too much sinful, inappropriate content for my liking. Forza and Gran Turismo, blah... And oh how I despise all the EA and 2k sports games. Wasted disc if you ask me...
Hyrule Warriors, Natural Doctrine and Shadow of Mordor are all in the mail on the way, unfortunately I leave for Minnesota tomorrow so I won't be able to play any of them until I come back next weekend.
@JaxonH - Thanks. Enjoy your trip, and don't work too hard
@rjejr Will do! Enjoy Hyrule Warriors, don't attack too many cuckoos
@rjejr As I understand it, the main differences between Pushmo World and the older 3DS version is that you can make larger levels, some new block types have been added and the level sharing is better/easier.
Another great game coming to wii u.
@JaxonH - Man you picked a really good week to go away, nothing going on but my obsession w/ Nitwit's lack of dates - and lots and lots of Hyrule Warriors. Hopefully Nintendo will honour your return w/ a Nintendo Direct very soon.
Oh, your getting this b/c I'm cleaing out my inbox, it's way too full.
@rjejr
I just got back, and had 3 games waiting for me- Hyrule Warriors, Natural Doctrine and Shadow of Mordor.
First, I gotta say, I really like Hyrule Warriors. At first I thought it was just gonna be "ok", not a bad game but just, average. But after playing it I think it's a great game! Way more fun than I thought it would be. I like the strategy elements, and all the Zelda type upgrades of course.
Haven't tried Natty Doc yet, but I plan to sometime this weekend. What I'm really looking forward to though is Shadow of Mordor. Got all the pre-order bonuses, and Best Buy bonus, and bonus for signing up for a WB account, ended up being like four separate codes I had to enter in. And coupled with entering Hyrule Warriors club Nintendo code, then the Ganondorf DLC code for registering, and I must've spent at least a half hour just entering codes yesterday.
@JaxonH - HW is addicting. If my hand didn't cramp up so bad after an hour or 2 of play I'ld never stop. Even purchased the $19.99 DLC and you know how opposed I am to DLC and pre-ordering. I think this ruins my rep of hating everything
Does mean no Pushmo World though but someday. Maybe when Nintendo gets a PS+ like "Nintendo eSelects" going on the eShop Welcome back.
@rjejr
Nice. I'm actually kind of surprised you like the game so much. Then again, I'm surprised I like it so much. I really wasn't expecting it to be that good, aside from the Zelda content of course. But sure enough the game is really fantastic! I bought the season pass too. Don't forget to register on Club Nintendo for the Ganondorf DLC costume.
I think I'm also going to buy a season pass for Shadow of Mordor. It's too bad Hyrule Warriors doesn't have online or I'd say we should tear it up together.
@JaxonH - Registered, got the DLC content, think I'm still a long way from getting Ganandorf though as I've mostly been playing Adventure mode trying to figure out the Network Link and make Legend mode last longer. Shadow of Mordor looks good but it looks like a game I would rent and play for a few weeks to finish up the story mode and be done w/ it. I think 1 reason I'm having so much fun w/ HW is b/c I bought it for my son as a birthday gift so I'm not agonizing over spending $60 on a videogame. My kids are both playing it solo and together, I'm playing it solo, we'll more than get our money's worth, even w/ the extra $20 for Epona. Who knows, maybe 1 of those modes in the boss pack will be online
