Feature: A Week of Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Screens - Issue Eighteen

Posted by Thomas Whitehead

Rosalina and Luma! Wily Stage! Cool Nintendo Direct video! Other stuff!

It's the last entry of this series of features before Christmas, and we think last week's screens will certainly help us get into the seasonal spirit. As always Masahiro Sakurai took to the Super Smash Bros. Director's Room on Miiverse to share screens of Super Smash Bros., making us increasingly jealous of the fact that he's apparently playing this every day at work.

Of course there's plenty of hard work going into these Wii U and 3DS projects, and the results certainly look promising. Sakurai-san had some fun content to work with this week, too, as Rosalina and Luma were revealed during Nintendo Direct, with a lovely accompanying video; naturally the new fighters feature prominently following the announcement, with some interesting insights into move-sets to consider.

Last week's treats are below, and as always you can click on the date heading to visit the Miiverse posts in question and give them a Yeah.

Some good 'uns this week, we hope you'll agree. Let us know which is your favourite out of these screens (and video!) in the poll and comments below.

What's your favourite Smash Bros. screen this week? (317 votes)

Pit and The Villager look towards an ominous doom

Fox and Mega Man are on the hype train

Link takes aim at a rather terrified Toad, though Peach isn't particularly worried...

Rosalina and Luma make a grand video entrance

Luma brings the Smash power to Mario

Kirby has trouble with Luma's star power

Um, I can't decide

I don't like any of them, to be honest

It could only be one thing.

I was a bit worried about her possible inclusion at first but then they show us that trailer...

It's Sakurai, nuff said.

Rosalina & Luma look bloody amazing and the fact that they're a completely unique character is great.

Pit and Villager looking at their impending doom is the best pic to me!

sinalefa said:

Did not vote for the video because it is not a pic

Besides, that is like an instant winner. I voted for Link Tell.

triforcepower73 said:

@sinalefa Seriously, that's kinda cheap putting a video on an article where everyone is supposed to vote for the best pic! For that reason alone, I picked the one where Peach is holding Toad as a shield from Link's arrow. That's just too funny!

NintyMan said:

As much as I love the trailer, I feel like it's cheating the system to have a video compete with pics for Best Pic of the Day, so I voted for Rosalina and Luma's first appearance in a Pic of the Day instead.

Pausing Smash Bros to look at still screens must be the most interesting thing to do with this game.

It's great to see that Peach isn't the only female Mario character to be playable in an SSB game anymore.

I luv Rosalina, I can't wait to play as her but what about Daisy can she be added as another female character too?

That little squishy toad about to get an arrow in him is by far my favorite pic of the week. Not only is it hilarious, but made my day by hinting smash bros. will be in the direct that day. Although I do love the yellow devil peeking from a distance. Great week for smash bros. news altogether :3

The 3DS screenshot, as usual. Can't wait to duke it out in a 3D arena with Spirit Tracks graphics!

Trailer wins without question, despite the fact the trailer had an extremely confusing beginning, lol.

Rafie said:

Let's go, Rosalina! Although I did choose the Link, Toad, and Peach pic. Princess Peach told Toad that he's expendable. Not coming to her rescue and again when Bowser comes.

IceClimbers said:

Rosalina looks like she will be rather OP. I thought Villager looked OP. Rosalina can override pretty much any of Villager's attacks.

JayceJa said:

rosalina looks pretty interesting to play, but i hate that its her, she has barely any character and there are so many more deserving characters, not to mention mario doesnt really need another rep

ah well, i can live with it so long as shes an interesting and fun character gameplay wise

by the time the game comes out there will be no surprises with al these spoilers. all aboard the hoe train .... chooo .choooo

Shambo said:

In other, tragic news: Toad took an arrow to the knee. After recovering, however, he ensures his fans to return to the front lines, on one condition: he doesn't want to have to jump anymore, and wants to be promoted to Captain.

Nintendo, are you reading this? Did you see the hint to releasing Captain Toad puzzle DLC/own downloadable game for Wii U/3DS?

SebCroc said:

As useless as toad his, he makes up for it for being a rather handy meat shield

CaviarMeths said:

Rosalina and Luma is pretty awesome, but gotta go with Link and Peach! Peach is always up to no good in these LOL.

Mario-Kirby said:

That last pic is a bit confusing with there voting description of it. I don't see Kirby anywhere in it.

If Sakurai can make even Rosalina a good character, we have nothing to worry about.
