Rabbids Recall Retracted

Posted by James Newton

Rabbids Go Home stamped with new, higher rating

A few weeks ago we hit you with the big news that Ubisoft's Rabbid adventure was facing recall from select UK retailers due to "potentially offensive content." Now you'll be pleased to hear Rabbids Go Home has reappeared on shop shelves with a new, higher PEGI 12 rating.

Considering the previous rating was a PEGI 7 it may not seem a huge jump, but it's extremely unusual for a game's rating to change after release and begs the question of how thoroughly the game was checked before being given its rating.

Whether the game's original pressing with a 7 certificate will become one of those must-have rarities in later years is something we will only know with the benefit of time, but get ready to see those Rabbids with bright orange 12s on their boxes from now on.

This should be an 18 rated game!! I'm only a few levels in, but the image of a rabbid in a thong has already scarred me.

seriously tho', I haven't seen or heard anything so far, that warrants this kind of silliness.

I don't have the game, but if it's the same humor from the first Rayman game with Rabbids, I think the 12+ rating is ridiculous. 7+ would be more then enough.

Yeah I think that a lot of collectors will try and get it. I also was sad that when I bought NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits, it wasn't called Icarian: Kindred Spirits.

I just got my pegi 7 last week
Oh and a very fun game btw.

wow uk just doesn't like the game with all the excuses they are using to screw over the game

OK, having played some more I take it back. Some naked guy who was hiding up a lamp post in town, said he was gonna get really p'd off if I didn't stop goin' 'bwaaah'. Definitely closer to 12 than 7.

Great game, lovin' it! .

is this how EU rates their games? i prefer the ESRB system. i'd feel awfully silly going to gamestop and buying a dozen games with a 7 (or 12) on the box, but if it says Everyone, that makes it a little easier to look the cashier in the face.

Seems quite silly and I still haven't heard anything that warrants a 12+/Teen rating.

I think governments and rating boards are getting a little carried away with rating video games, considering there's nothing in this game that would, say if it was a movie, make it higher then a G.

I guess, I'm happy that the ESRB seems to have the most sensible raters.

Yeah, I suppose fifty year old adults get embarrassed buying movies for themselves with an 18 rating. 18? Thats for kids, man!

If you go over to and search for Rabbids you'll find the reasons for the 12+ rating is strong language. Most likely "No penetration allowed in this zone.". Weirdly enough, violence has vanished (it is stil present in every other version). Prepare for recall number 2

This is the best solution actually. You don't have to issue a recall as you could supply alternate covers or rating stickers. Now I wonder what would happen if you traded the 7+ copy into GAME...they shouldn't be allowed to accept it due to having an invalid rating but it all it takes are a few idiots to work there (I cringe every time I see an ESRB rated game in the pre-owned section).

@Starwolf_UK: I feel the same when I see a PEGI rated game at GameStop. At least I've yet to see one that wasn't for a region-free console...just DS and PS3 thus far.

Also, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was re-rated by the ESRB from T to M. I still see T copies on shelves from time to time, but we're still not allowed to sell them to kids under 17. Only game that's bee re-rated we're NOT allowed to take is GTA: San Andreas. I should think the reason for that is quite obvious.

Odnetnin - it isn't in any sort of context, really. The tannoy lady just says it. That's why it's so funny

The game also says 'pissed off' and I can understand a 12 rating for this. I am on the 7th Level and I have already seen bouncing on hospital beds and taking ill people for a ride on the trolley, if I had kids I would rather see them playing harmless games such as Grand Theft Auto.

After watching the Gametrailers review I actually feel I might pick this up at some point, which is a bit surprising considering I had zero interest in the mini-game collections.

Old news I know, but I opened this game up as a Christmas present today, and it was the Pegi 7 version. Hooray for rarities!
