Whilst island life may never get old for some players, a number of Animal Crossing: New Horizons festive events exist to help keep gameplay fresh, and Bunny Day — which starts every year around the end of March and start of April — is just one of them.

April marks several changes to your island, including cherry blossom colouring some of your trees and grass becoming greener as summer approaches. But April 1st (or thereabouts) brings the egg-iest seasonal event of all, Bunny Day!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bunny Day Guide

When is Bunny Day?

In the world of Animal Crossing, Bunny Day is essentially an internationally-friendly, non-denominational version of Easter, complete with its own version of the Easter Bunny.

Assuming you're playing at least Version 1.1.1a of the game, you’ll soon spot Zipper T. Bunny wandering around your island and he’ll invite you to participate in an Egg hunt.

In 2020, the event occurred between the 1st and 12th of April, though in 2021, it ran shorter from 28th March to 4th April.

Who is Zipper T. Bunny?

For those who are long-time fans of Animal Crossing, Zipper T. Bunny is a familiar special character (he first appeared in City Folk) that always visits at this time of year. Zipper celebrates Bunny Day by sending players off to collect Eggs in exchange for rewards, and New Horizons is no different.

Bunny day-themed DIY recipes (incorporating Eggs as crafting items) are also hidden around the island. The closer you get to Bunny Day, the more recipes you’ll be able to find. Collect all the hidden DIY recipes and Zipper will grant you a special present at the end of the holiday.

Some recipes can be found in bottled messages that wash ashore every day, some can be shot down from balloons, whereas others are a little harder to find and are revealed as the final day draws closer.

As for Zipper himself, a zip at the back of his character model signifies that he is, in fact, someone wearing a bunny costume! However, no one yet knows his true identity. Your guess is as good as ours!

How do I collect Eggs?

Before you can exchange Eggs for gifts and use them for crafting, you first need to find some. Zipper has hidden Eggs all over your island, and you’ll need to equip your character with a shovel, axe, fishing rod, and slingshot to find some.

There are a total of six types of eggs to find, and each type is exclusive to one specific location.

Leaf Eggs

Perhaps the easiest Egg to collect, the Leaf Egg can be seen around your town growing on cherry blossom trees in the same way that fruit grows. Simply shake down the eggs to collect three Leaf Eggs to contribute to any Bunny Day DIY projects you want to create.

Stone Eggs

Each day the rocks in your town will harbour new items, whether that be raw materials for DIY crafting or money that you can add to your balance.

During Bunny Day, you can also find Stone Eggs hidden amongst the clay and iron ore you’ll uncover. So get whacking rocks with your spade to find them!

Earth Egg

In day-to-day island life, cracks in the ground mean fossils hidden under the earth just waiting to be assessed and donated to the museum. As the event goes on, the number of cracks in the ground increases, and that’s because a number of these ‘fossils’ are now Earth Eggs. Dig them up with your shovel to collect them.

Sky Egg

Every day a number of floating balloons carrying presents will pass overhead. Most of the time, they carry clothing items or, in rarer cases, Bells. During the Bunny Day event, you will notice that a number of floating balloons are carrying Eggs rather than presents. Shoot these down with your slingshot and you can grab yourself a Sky Egg.

Because these balloons fly over your island each day, there’s no limit on the number of Sky Eggs you can harvest.

Water Egg

By taking fishing trips to your local rivers and seas, you can find Water Eggs. After spotting a shadow in the water (no different to fish shadows) cast your line into the waves and press down on the A button once the float bobs under the water.

While this mechanic may mean you catch more than a few fish, hopefully you’ll be able to pull some Water Eggs from the depths as well.

Wood Egg

To find Wood Eggs, you’ll need to equip yourself with an axe and prepare to investigate every tree in your town. If you’re using a flimsy axe you can hit each tree up to three times, but with a proper axe limit this to two hits otherwise you risk felling a tree.

Amongst the wood you cut down you should find the odd Wood Egg. Simply repeat this method with every tree on your island to increase your quantity of Wood Eggs.

The Bunny Day update added lots of new DIY recipes to the game. In fact, there are over 30 egg-themed items you can craft, many requiring at least two different types of Egg. For a list of what you can build plus some examples, see our lists below.
