It just seems as if it is assumed 'EVERYONE' thinks games need or need more voice acting. It just seems like a loud minorit want to push around the silent majority.
Well, I do not like it. I do not like story heavy games. I like atmosphere and gameplay. I do not lik watching, I like playing. And this game has split the Metroid fan base in two and now they are at war with each other. I hoipe this does not come to Hyrule with the release of Skyward Sword.
This game proves how toxic, unnecessary, and ridiculous story can be. Also it was sexist. Not cool, Nintendo, not cool
I didn't mind the voice acting, but I would rather play a game instead of hearing tons of dialog in one. The cutscenes were nice, but the story was lacking something...
Personally, I'm open to it next Metroid but I still question Zelda. I can't imagine how they'd voice Link and make him sound good. I can't even imagine how I want him to sound, so I can't even tell you that, haha. On the other hand, I really enjoyed Other M and I hope they take a few more risks. I'd rather put up with 'confession time' and get a game like that than Prime 4.
The problem with Other M wasn't the voice acting so much as it was the script. But I'm still not up for it for Zelda--especially considering how much dialogue there is. Having to translate a game into several different languages means none of them are getting the attention they deserve, and assuming, for the sake of argument, that we keep Link silent, that's going to make everything pretty awkward dialogue-wise. A lot of weird, one-sided conversations. So I can't say I'm cured because I didn't think it was all that bad. And because I really didn't want it in the first place.

I personally enjoyed Other M for what it was, I can't imagine what it would have been like without voice acting and I believe that it worked well with it.
Thing with Link is that there are multiple Link's, in fact most Link's have only been in 2 games if I'm not completely wrong; also Link is meant to be a character that the player can imagine that they are which is why Link never says things as it might change what the player sees as who they are in game.
Samus however is one recuring character within the same universe and is meant to have her own characteristics so the games can progress in a certain direction and with all players knowing who Samus really is, rather than everyone having a differing opinion of her.
I guess I wanted Prime 4 cause high quality FPS are rare on wii and the controls be so good and my big problemwith VA is I can read so much faster.
Don't get me wrong, HC, I'd love Prime 4. I'd buy it on Day 1. But I'd just played the Trilogy, so I'm glad to get a change of pace and I'm glad to see them taking one or two risks, is all

I actually more and more am interested in deeper and longer stories in games but one of my favorite stories in a game was Klonoa, which really just had 2 minute cutscenes per level until the last world and was enjoyable even if you skipped the cutscenes. And I hate it (outside of MAYBE some RPGs) where there is more time with dialogue and cutscenes than actual gameplay though. If you want that much story, add more good gameplay and make the game even longer then.
I also have mixed feelings about voice acting in games. For me the voice acting in games has to be really good and at least be used for a lot of the game (at least for half of all the dialogue that you have to go through to beat the game) and be used consistently (one of the things that really irked me about Tales of Symphonia and the first Layton game was how inconsistent the use of voice acting felt). Really, while I like good voice acting, if it is suddenly not used at times when it should be it really takes me out of the entire experience.
Also, I'm worried we'll get another Super Mario Sunshine situation. (OH GOD BOWSER'S VOICE)
" Also it was sexist."
Say bye to heartcontainer's opinion's credibility everyone! Bye! waves
I was one of those who didn't want any voice acting in my games. I'm showing my age, I guess, when I point out that my introduction to video game voice acting was when it was both a) uncommon and b) universally awful.
I've come around somewhat. I accept it as part of gaming now...though I can't say I prefer it to good ol' text.
That said, Other M surprised me. In a very positive way. I'll echo the script concerns, but the voice acing in that game, barring one or two poor line-readings, was pretty darned good.
I'll never say that I WANT voice acting in my Nintendo games. But I can now say that I'm at least less frightened of it as a result of Other M.
I like games with good, deep stories especially in rpgs. I rarely buy rpgs if they don't have deep stories but many other genres don't need deep stories but it's still nice if they do have them. I really liked the voice acting and cinematic feel of other m but it was sexist at times but the sexism in other m isn't as bad as many people make it out to be.
No, voice acting is great, I think they didn't ruin metroid or "kill"samus (stupid IGN article), or nothing like that, voice acting is great, it just add more depth to the history.
I loved the voice acting in Other M, and would welcome it in future Metroid games. As for voice acting in the Zelda-verse, I could see it working, after all Fallout 3, a game where almost every single NPC speaks, has a silent protagonist, so why not Zelda...
