i really didn't want voice acting when i first heard it was in the game but it didn't feel out of place at all. i thought there were a few awkwardly dubbed lines ("what--about--the--infant--metroid, you--man--aged--to--freeze------------ ...it") but since it's a video game i wasn't expecting anything otherwise.
Keep it in my Starfox... nothing better than hearing my mates talking on speaker... because if I try to read the text theres gonna be boggies on my tail.
In the right series, I much prefer more than a minimal story that has cutscenes, and if you're going to have that, then voice acting makes it better. I want to know what's going on with dialog, and spoken dialog immerses you more and allows you to focus more on the cutscene visuals (and gameplay if the dialog is happening in-game), and only truly horrible voice acting makes listening to the cutscenes uncomfortable.
Metroid is one such series that should have a decently deep story with voice acting, and I enjoyed Other M's story and think the voice acting is pretty good. Mario is not. The Legend of Zelda is a rare case where you have pretty big stories, but it's in the best interest of the franchise to avoid voice acting.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
As for voice acting in the Zelda-verse, I could see it working, after all Fallout 3, a game where almost every single NPC speaks, has a silent protagonist, so why not Zelda...
I totally agree. Half-Life is another great example in my opinion.
I liked the voice acting in Other M. And I'd love to see another Metroid game like it. Hell, if this turns out to be the future of the entire franchise, I won't complain. No, it wasn't a Hollywood-standard performance, but what videogames are? It was far from awful though, and rarely broke immersion.

I also like the voice acting on Other M, but I felt that it worked best when she was "thinking" he lines. The worst of them was when they tried to make her too vulnerable. Still is my second favorite game this generation, but that's what I would improve.
Isn't it amazing though: all the complaints mostly are about the voice, or acting in the game. The only "game" complaint was the sometimes annoying screen searching, and even that wasn't too bad. It's incredible how they managed to work out the whole 1st-3rd person thing so smooth, and the game feels sooo good with so few buttons. That was my number one concern coming into the game and it worked perfect.
I really think this game is going to be looked at in a much better light 3-4 years from now.
I challenge anyone who claims to dislike story in games to play Heavy Rain and come away unphased!
I remember that game's story getting a fair bit of flak for having being rather unoriginal and pulling some cheap shots on its players with detriment to narrative logic. (I haven't played it myself though.) I'd still generally prefer to read a crime novel than play a crime game (lol GTA) for its story.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
I find it more immerse when there ISN'T voice acting. I have my own little world going on and my own interpretation of their voices. It's like reading a book.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
His review is kind of hypocritical. First he complains about Samus pointing out obvious things, but later on he complains about the writers "forgetting" the deleter after Samus finds James' (who obviously was the deleter since he was the last corpse Samus found) corpse. I know his reviews aren't to be taken seriously but I absolutely can't stand them because he thinks hitting on critically acclaimed games and talking fast is funny. I wonder, is the only reason people watch his show because he pisses off fanboys?
