If a person were buying a Wii to play games that specifically use the motion controls, what games would you recommend? Apart from Wii Sports, the only game I have that really uses the motion controls all that much is WarioWare Smooth Moves.

Cooking Mama? I've never played it, but it would look like that would be the point of putting a cooking game on the Wii. Not sure about that suggestion though

Super Mario Galaxy

Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction. - Albert Einstein on the Wii

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition

Motion-controlled strangling... IR aiming... Plus 30 other gestures (pushing doors open, punching, headbutts, etc.). An amazing mature Wii title with 20+ hours of gameplay. And you can usually buy it for cheap.

Boom Blox Bash Party -- though you need to learn technique to avoid throwing your arm out!
Tenchu Shadow Assassins has good motion control by all accounts; hopefully I'll be experiencing that myself come July.
De Blob and Deadly Creatures both did a good job with motion control in their games, though they primarily use the nunchuck's control stick.

Metroid Prime 3
Zack & Wiki
SSB: Brawl (I kid)
LostWinds
That's about it. DS games do a WAAY better job at interactive controls, but the majority that don't came out early in teh DS's life cycle. I hope that it will only go uphill for Wii (WM+ Zelda plz).

Wait there are games that make good use of motion controls, haha I laugh, j/k. Like Sean my favorite is Boom Blox. Games that use motion for certain moments are cool too. I for one like the trial galaxy in SMG. I also like the use of pointer for the various uses within the game, though I did feel the co-star mode could have been greatly expanded upon. Lost Winds is great and using tilt to steer works very well in Mario Kart and Excitebots. I also think I'm one of the few that feels that IR worked just as well if not better for the Trauma Center games than the stylus.

@ Sean
Yeah I get a serious case of Wii elbow with that game. What I've been practicing is just doing a simple flick of the wrist. Though I rarely let go of the A button in time when I do that.

Godfather is great for motion controls. Really puts everything to good use. The best version, IMO.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

i agree with the driving controls in mariokart wii, and Warioland: Shake It!!! had great motion controls for a side-scrolling game as well

Metroid Prime 3 doesnt use the motion but the IR well.
No More Heroes use it well.

My mind is blank right now but only a few really do imo.

Eureka seveN changed my life.

Hmmm, seems odd that the motion controls are the main selling point of the Wii, but there are so few good games that really use them all that much.

I think the difficulty for the developers is in the data and how it's received, plus development time and playtesting. Given a choice between having a game with improperly calibrated motion controls and one without that's released on time, but maybe has less inspired controls the latter seems like a safer option.

Metroid Prime 3 doesn't use motion controls? The single most satisfying use of motion controls anywhere (IMHO) is Metroid 3's grapple beam!

The grapple beam was a bit finicky for me (but not awful), and the other applications, like turning your hand and pulling back to open something, were completely pointless. IR worked great though, of course.

I don't think motion controls have really been used too well at all beyond Wii Sports. The games that tried to surpass Sports ended up being too buggy, like WarioWare and Mario Party. Can't wait for M+ to set things straight.

EDIT: Forgot about Kororinpa. That one used motion most excellently.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

Super Mario Galaxy has the best motion controls ever? That's a big stretch.

I liked how SpiderMan 3 used it for the web slinging, but besides that the game was pretty bad.

Kororinpa and Excite Truck (if you play it with Wii Wheel)
