I got myself a PS4 a day ago for the simple reason that Koei will continue their Warriors series on it.
And i have to say, never has a console underwhelmed me like that.

While i had plenty of fun with the WiiU in itself, fudging around with the menus, exploring the wara wara plaza, browsing miiverse, the PS4 just feels barren in every aspect. The system and its UI are basically dead weight. Its bland, its boring and it offers nothing worthwhile.
When it comes to games, i only own my 3rd copy of Dynasty Warriors 8 on it and the titles that were released via PS+ and thats it.. Its not that im lacking the money to get me some more, its the fact that there are non.
There is nothing really worthwhile the 70-80€ (!) price tag.
I will get my fair share of playtime out of Orochy 3 Ultimate and teh upcomming Samurai Warriors 4 and thats probably it. Sure, games like Kingdoms Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV are on their way, but looking back at Squares latest efforts, im less than thrilled about them.
Another thing to look forward to is MGS V, which i could have gotten on my PS3 too.
And no, higher resolution and a better framerate is NOT worth 400€. WHatever game were talking about.

Ive been a fan of Koeis work since the first Dynasty Warriors on the PS2 (yes, technically, the fighting game on the PS1 was the first title, but im talking mainly about the "shin" series here) so there was a slight reason for me to get a system like that, even though i have to admit, it was an idiotic one, looking back at the price.

As of yet, there is simply no real reason to get a "next gen" system. And i guess owning one gives me a credible reason to say it. This purchase was mainly made due to me being a diehard fan of a single franchise and a single developer, who is most likely to shift production to that system.

If you ask me, the WiiU wins any contest against the PS4 you put the two in. From the systems functionality and UI to othe library of games all the way down to accessability.
To make it blunt: I got more fun out of the WiiU itself than the PS4 with a couple of games. And remeber, most of them are of the hailed "indie" variaty, so they MUST be saint, right ? Its all people are talking about, PS4 won because of indie support...mhmm, wake me up when that happened.

Agree with the most you said, and glad I am not the only one who, as first game purchase, got Dynasty Warrior 8 (I am loving this game, Lu bu and his Daughter are two beasts... Guan Yu and Zhou Tai too ).

For me, not owning a ps3 and having a wiiU too, was a choice "on perspective", checking what will come out in the future, i said to myself ok get it, in parallele with WiiU will be great...

COncerning the UI, it looks poor, but consider that the point of the console was to go back to the gaming roots (so not too many gimmicks like Xbox 360 had) and that in its lifespan, is still very young.... I guess to really compare our experience with the two consoles, we should wait till end 2015, when the console will be at full regime.... sure, one could have waited more, especially if you already own a ps3 or xbox360.... for me, that wasn't a choice, and as I said, the desire of going online playing fifa and destiny was too strong...

@arnoldlayne83 didn't know you were italian - you should add me on Miiverse!

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Wii U - is a definite winner if you're a Nintendo fan or someone who liked the Wii most last gen. It also has at least 2 good games for every genre but I wouldn't recommend it to 'hardcore gamers' i.e. people who only buy FIFA alongside AAA gaming fad 20xx and its DLC each year. Also a must-buy if modern micro-transaction littered games disgust you.

Xbox one - has some brilliant exclusives already and some promising timed ones coming, probably has a better library than Wii U had for its first year and less game droughts. It will retain 3rd party support better than a struggling Nintendo or Sega console ever did and games with online multi seem to sell well enough to create decent online communities.

PS4 - will almost certainly will have the best overall software support regardless of how lacking its current library is. Not sure how useful its additional power is going to be when good looking games are taking years to make but you won't be able to argue with having the biggest game selection. Their exclusives will still be overrated Ocarina of Time / RE4 clones

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

@arnoldlayne83 See, thats a perfectly reasonable point of view. You had a game that really intrigued you and therefore, had no other choice than to get the system its on. Though this whole debate about which console is better or not is utter BS in my opinion.
Its about the games and only the games. If you like a partcular one on a specific console, you know which one to get, its as simple as that.

Like i said above, from a sheer user perspective, the PS4 was the most disappointing first bootup of a system ive ever had. The experience is just completely lackluster. And i have to disagree with you on terms of "going back to their gaming roots".
The WiiU also is a pure gaming console and yet, the UI is welcomming, interactive and offers both, something for the eye and something to do with it, while the PS4 is as basic as it can get.
Theres nothing really wrong with it, dont get me wrong, but its the opposite of appealing. And going back to their gaming root would mean, that they want to appeal to gamers, and gamers love to explore, to funble around with things, to interact. With this in mind, the UI coulndt be more misplaced.

Like i said, for me, there is no winner, but if i had to pick, it would most definitly be the WiiU. Why ? Because if im asked about selling points of a certain system, the WiiU would be the only one i could come up with a bunch of reasons why its totally worth it. Not completely biased mind you, but still valid.

This sentence was too reasonable. Get out.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

@SkywardLink98 See, i can have the smarts too
But in all honesty, thats it, thats how chosing a console works, at least for me.
Like i said, im the lunatoc who bought a 400€ console for the simple reason to play a range of games, other wouldnt even touch with welding gloves.
I enjoy those games, they are going to be released on that console, do the math.

It does by no means mean that i like the system, actually, i still dont. I still think its not worth a purchase, but i had MY reasons. And that should be anything anyone needs.
I dont care if a consoles gains or loses third party support. What good are third partys if the just produce utter crap in the future ? Sure, i dont know if its crap yet, and you dont know if it will be good Thats the magic. WIth Nintendo, i DO know what im getting, thats the sole reason i get their systems day one and others once they feature games i do know that i want them.

The "console wars" are just marketing babble and propaganda. You cant tell the PS4 apart from the Xbone and the WIiU plays in a league of its own. Thats a war if i ever saw one...
If i had to put this generations "console war" in gaming terms, just imagine this:

Xbone and PS4 are the most proficient wizzards in the kingdom, weaving spells like no other, with the added support of their companion 3rd party multiplat support (thats a mouthfull for a name) 3rdPMPS is supporting BOTH with a sheer endless pool of mana, keeping them both casting throughout the whole day. What they dont know though is, that both wizzards are equiped with the same spells and the same resistances. Thus, fighting a futile battle of endless whack a mole.
Off in the distance is the knight WiiU. He may not be as powerfull as both wizzards, but hes a crafty one, knows how to work his tools and relys on the old and trusty ways of the blade. He could strike down one, if not both of these wizzards entwined in a futile battle. But why doesnt he do it ?
Hes off in the fields, battling an endless horde of critters, simply called "bad press", giving him no chance to catch a breath and no way of striking the wizzards down. And since every supporting party member is afraid of the bad press, no one is going to help the little knight.

And thus, children, our story of the great console wars end closes book

All Sony consoles besides the PSP and PS3 have boring UIs. The PS1 was pretty plain compared to the Saturn's UI, and the PS2 was even worse when compared to the Dreamcast, Gamecube and Xbox. It was pretty damn basic.

The PS3 and PSP had the best UIs in my opinion. I loved the XMB. It was so easy to find what I was looking for without having to fumble with the UI. I also love the fact that the UI for the PS3 and PSP allowed users to have custom themes and backgrounds. Why Sony took a step back with the Vita, I don't know. I have not had a chance to use a PS4, so I have no idea what the UI is, although I think it's like that stupid Metro desgin that Microsoft is shoving down the throats of Xbox owners.

My favortie UI is the one of the WIi and the 3DS. It's easy to use, you don't have to go through numerous menus to find what you're looking for, and it's pleasing overall to the eyes. Good to see Nintendo did not ditch that UI on the Wii U.

Real shame Sony did not feel the same way. I think the XMB would have worked great on the PS4 and Vita.

in october they are going to add themes and customizations to ps4 UI too, along with other features, like jumping in the game of someone else to assist him remotely, Thta's why I said we should wait a lil before judging ps4 Ui, seems so much a "working progress" till now...

I bought a Wii U in April of 2013... Love it. But a few things compelled me to get an XBone.... the new Madden bundle, plus I got $70 off my purchase at Amazon by applying for a CC. That and not that I am interested in the great majority of titles coming out- but there are a few like Lord of the Rings, YK15, NHL, Assasins Creed, Forza.... I just want the option to pick up a few of these eventually. I like the XBone so far, but at the same time it seems to me that there's a lot of games driven by micro transactions, so I think my library will be pretty small.

I think down the road, I'll get a Ps4 too. That's probably two years out or so.

sub12 wrote:

Xbox One: Pretty much the same as the PS4 with slightly inferior graphics, and a somewhat smaller library in regards to indies, and in the future, non-AAA Japanese titles. But if you love Gears of War and Halo, buy it.

Wii U: Do Nintendo titles appeal to you more than anything else on the market? buy it

If PS4/Xbone were all I had to choose from, I wouldn't be a gamer anymore. They've finished what the PS3/360 started and successfully sucked all the fun out of gaming.

I think my PS3 is a fun system. Certainly just as enjoyable as my Wii was and my 3DS is that I play alongside it.

I've been gaming since the Sega Genesis, and I would rank the PS3 in my personal top 5 when it comes to favortie game consoles I have played. To be honest, I've had more fun with my PS3 then I ever did with the PS2.

But, I can understand that the HD twins may not offer games that you want to play.

But for my tastes in games, the PS3 is a fun system and has tons of great games. I think people(not you, but others) get so caught up in the "All the HD twins have are brown FPS games!" thing, that they ignore the deep libaries both systems(especially the PS3) has.

Quite frankly, I think the PS3 is still the best system on the market when it comes to the value the system offers.

I do have a question, why do you dislike the Playstation and Xbox?

Rundown of things that are better on Wii U and pretty forgettable on the other consoles:

  • Graphics

Wii U:
Huge leap compared to Wii.
Fantastic artists and graphic designers.
Games look beautiful and run in 60 fps.
Some games even mirrored on touchscreen without any lag!

PS4:
Looks like PS3/Xbox360. First party games run in 30fps.

XBone:
Looks worse than PS3/Xbox360. They just rush everything and don't care for good graphics. Very disappointing.
I know it's said to be at least better than X360. But if they say so, they should prove it!

  • Games

Wii U:
! Nintendo First Party Quality and Full-on Indie Support Quantity!
! Perfect backwards compatibility to a catalogue of more than 1000 Wii, Virtual Console, and WiiWare games. Hundreds of real classics.

The other consoles:
! Amount of PS4/Xbone games combined don't match the number of games running on Wii U. And if you combine them you have what? 10 more games?
! Many remakes, no backwards compatibility, everything poisoned by DLC.
! They have Electronic Arts, hahah!

  • Controller

Wii U:
Best controller that supports REAL next gen stuff, like....
! a second screen
! off-tv-play
! a touchscreen
! new (asymetric) multiplayer!
! also supports all last gen controllers (innovative and useful ones like Wiimote+Nunchuk and even the Balance Board)
! will even support controllers of the generation before the last gen (Gamecube Controller) soon

PS4:
Supports the controller of the generation before the last gen. What do you say? it's a new controller??

Xbox One:
Horrible main controller.
Unhonorable mention: Kinect failed and abandoned.

  • Online

Wii U:

! No extra cost
! No cost at all
! It's free!
! Wii U Chat, Miiverse, eShop, Internet Browsing, Gaming, It's all freeeee!

Xbox and PS:
! Not free!
! Pay!
! Pay!
! Pay!
! Each and every month.

So, yeah. I hope you see what's important to me, but I'm also happy that the Wii U is the cheapest console, the most economical console, the quietest console, and the smallest console. There are a few minor things like it can't install PC games or make breakfast, but all in all it's an instant win when compared to the "rivals".

Oh please that stuff is the same old same old, play the 7th gen versions of those games they're the same thing, the Wii U's games actually stand beyond silly stuff like "oh look, if you put the two games side by side there's a slight improvement in the texture detail!"

@SKTTR Have you seen the graphics for inFamous: Second Son? The difference between its graphics and PS360 is astounding. I started up Uncharted 3 for another playthrough yesterday, and I actually a little miffed at the facial models because I had been spoiled by Second Son. Some of the upcoming games have even better graphics, and the difference is really night and day with PS360.
You don't pay each month for online on with Plus and Gold. You pay yearly. (Technically you can pay monthly, but it'll be a lot more expensive that way.)
You're also skipping over that the Dualshock 4 is a big improvement over the Dualshock 3, and has a few new features. And touch-screen aside, it's a much better controller than the gamepad with buttons, Triggers and generally holding it and stuff like that.
The PS4 is also getting a lot of games in the future, and will soon outdo Wii U by a lot in numbers.

Jaz007

SuperWiiU

I don't understand all the love for the Wii U UI. It looks basically the same as the Wii one and it hides some functions that could be on it behind the home button and it's very slow, especially the settings menu takes forever to load which I just don't understand.

Saying things like PS4 games look like PS3 is just ignorance. Unless you have absolutely no eye for detail you have to see there is huge improvement.
And not all Wii U games run at 60fps and there are plenty of (first party) PS4 games(especially upcoming) that run 60fps.
