Ok, I walked into my TV room today and sat down looking at my computer. I said a few things out loud to myself, and then, without even touching the Wii U, the Gamepad made a noise and had an advertisement for pre-ordering Smash Bros. Does anyone else not find this a bit strange that the Gamepad can be monitoring with it's microphone when off?
Monster Hunter for the win!!!!! Check out my music album at https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/fifteen-ep/id589290511
When I have the Downloads screen open and set the Gamepad down, it'll act as though I press the X button if I make any movements around it. First it'll go back to the Home screen, then it'll flip to the Miiverse screen.
I have no idea why, but it's annoying.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
Last night I was sleeping all calm. Then in the middle of the night, all of a sudden, the Gamepad was right beside me! The screen was lit bright as it urged me to buy SSBU. That was rather odd, as I had left it in the loading dock. So you may be onto something, perhaps it does sense human presence.
Now it's time for some sweet Mario Kart action! Where did I left my Gamepad again? It's not at the charging dock as it ought to be. And what's that weird tingling on my neck? AAAAAAHHHHH!!! No!! must.. warn... everyone....... gamepads... taking.... over..... AAAAAAaahhhhhh......
Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8
Please shut down the WiiU over night. It is good for the environment.
(By shutdown I mean switching off the power supply)
I wish I could but I was forced to put it directly in a power socket, because whenever my sister finished watching tv(while I was using off-tv play),she switched off the power supply, wich was the same for the tv and the Wii U.

Who cares? I forget if it was this site or WiiUDaily that reported on it, but the Wii U uses less power than any other current and last gen system. There even was a handy chart. The Wii U uses about the same amount of power as a 40-watt bulb, I believe.

Given that according to that link others posted it's using only ~3kwh over a full year for standby power consumption? We're talking the amount of power you can save by changing one 60W globe with an LED globe for about a week. Or the sort of power a fairly basic rooftop solar PV system will produce on a cloudy day. Or the sort of power you'd save by turning off a second freezer for a day. I think I can live with that.
wouldn't surprise me if the wii u can monitor you - most technology can. hell, it's got cameras and mics right there in your hands...
I highly doubt it's monitoring you especially given how low its standby power consumption is. More likely the OP just happened to walk into the room as it got a notification.
Yes, the WiiU is very energy-saving in Standby mode, but nevertheless: Energy which is not used, makes the world a better place.
Maybe we are just talking about 5 kWh a year for one person. But for 8 Million WiiUs the sum is 40 000 000 kWh/year.
