Topic: Why The Hate For GBA And DS Games On The Wii U?

Posts 1 to 20 of 25

I understand the sentiment of also wanting the games available on the 3DS, but why not prefer that the games get released on both systems? There are people like myself who either rarely play on their handhelds or don't play them at all so why not make them available to as wide of an audience as possible? In my case I have poor eyesight and have been told by a doctor that if I play on handheld game systems for any prolonged period of time that I will almost certainly need to get eyeglasses or contacts in the near future...

My point is some of us have very legitimate excuses for wanting these games on the big screen so why are the more vocal members trying to cry out to Nintendo that they shouldn't release the games on home consoles and just release them on handhelds instead? I just don't get that way of thinking?

The argument isn't that they shouldn't be released on the Wii U at all, it's that if only one of the systems gets the games it should be the portable one. What if Nintendo announced today they would be releasing Gamecube and Wii games on the New 3DS's Virtual Console service (not possible, but what if)? You'd probably be complaining that the Wii U is the proper place for them because they are home console games. Portable games would be on a portable system first and on home consoles second.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

@SkywardLink98 Which was simply not possible on the regular 3DS. Its not that hard to understand.
Nintendo wouldnt miss out ond the possible money if it would be cost efficiant to get these games running properly on the handheld.
The ambassador games used the old leftover GBA coding in the 3DSs DS OS.
They have no sleep mode, no VC menu, and take ages to go back to the home sreen due to them being loaded completely onto the RAM bank.

The biggest problem is, that people simply love to complain. If it would have been the case that tehy are only released on the 3DS, complains would have looked like "but the WiiU needs more attention" or "But there was the GB Player, why no WiiU supprt" etc.

People complain about pretty much everything, with or without a good enough reason. For me, "not running properly" was all it took to not want half baked VC ports of these games on the 3DS.
Maybe it will change with the N3DS, maybe not, i dont really care, as long as these games see the light of day somewhere.

People feel there is a certain order to these things. As a person that prefers consoles to handhelds I'm loving the gba support. However I've heard the numerous complaints that handheld games should release on handheld vc. Which would make all those nes and snes game interesting...hmm.

It is usually more of "I don't want to buy a wiiu when I have a 3ds" complaint more than anything. I don't console restrict so I have no pity. If you want to play a game you buy the console it comes out on. But this is the internet. I've made a few token complaints about long rpgs on handhelds...I still buy them though.

I think the hate comes from the priority aspect of the VC. most people expected it to start closer to what was available on Wii then expand.

"Don't want to" or "can't afford to"? Or maybe "not allowed to"?

There is more than a single reason for not owning a console.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Yea, but I feel it is the same argument I hear for not wanting to buy a Nintendo system just for Nintendo games. There is a reason why certain games are on a certain platform and not others, whether it is marketing or performance. If you want GBA VC then those people know where they can get them, on Wii U

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Only thing I hate is that the DS games aren't even on the Wii U's VC over here yet. :c

I don't complain the games are on Wii U, actually, I just think it's batcrap crazy they're releasing them just on it. I think VC games should be shared between the two consoles. It's practically the only thing Sony's done right with Vita.
And please don't tell me that the 3DS can't run GBA, or even SNES games...

I think you really hit nail on the head with that one. If you already owned a Wii U, would you be complaining? Probably not. Sure, there is the loss of portability on 3DS, but how many people have time to play a 40+ hour RPG on the go? Some, but not many. People usually game on the go because of LIMITED time, not a surplus. I think a large part of the backlash comes from the 3DS+PS4 only crowd who have bought what is popular and are now angry that something unpopular has games they want. It happens more often that you'd think...remember the Bayonetta 2 backlash? It's OK if a hardcore FF fans buy a PS4 for FF XV (but NOT Xbox One, LOL), but god forbid a hardcore Bayonetta fan buy a Wii U for Bayonetta 2

Not to say I don't support these games on 3DS as well, but I think it's a great idea to have them on Wii U and to have them on Wii U first.

@Einherjar The games being released is obviously the priority, but the games obviously ran which is enough to make it sell. They may have run poorly as a quick apology to ambassadors but they may have run better had they been given the love and polish they would have gotten had they been a for-profit product. The fact of the matter is, neither of us know enough about porting GBA games onto a 3DS to know for sure why Nintendo hasn't done it. Like you said, maybe the New 3DS will be different, but it doesn't really matter.

Everyone who plays Pokemon.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Gaming is a luxury hobby. I get where you are coming from as I remember my childhood and I had only a few systems and even fewer games. However, I still have no pity. I got my first job at 14. I used that money for games and books. Actually as a working adult that is paying for school out of pocket (plus student loan debt yay) I have less money than I did as a kid. It isn't hard to save.I budget out my gaming year and I'm able to afford what I want to buy. If you aren't allowed...then you may not want to game as a hobby (that includes married adults whose spouses don't approve of the hobby). It is expensive after all. So I stick by my original statement. If you want to game you buy the system it comes out on.

I always feel like pokemon is different because its very nature makes it designed for bite sized gaming sessions. But a more console-esque rpg like bravely default and dragon quest (I can't wait for xenoblade 3ds lol) I find those difficult to get through without playing at home (where I would prefer a console experience anyway).

VC has been crappy for years. That's why I'm leaning toward just buying the actual carts. It may be more expensive, but it's much more satisfying.

If it ran properly I don't see where it is a point of contention. I didn't gripe when they put the enhanced versions of super mario 64, star fox 64, and Zelda OOT and now MM on handheld systems. Those were originally all console games. Sure, if I had an honest choice I'd rather they be on a console but it is what it is. I went right out and bought or preordered those games and played them on the system they were released for. Except Starfox...I'm ok with just having the n64 version.

Not really much different than some Wii U owners complaining about certain 3DS games not being on/coming to Wii U.
