I know they want to save their big announcements for E3, but I think it would have been smart so show off something here. At E3, you'll have a ton of game reveals for Sony and MS consoles, and there's danger of 'New Mario Kart revealed' or 'New 3D Mario revealed' getting a bit pushed to the side in a lot of video game news media.
Today they could have shown off Mario Kart and got people excited. Who's going to buy a Wii U this month? In April there were some big releases, and it only sold 40k. Now there's the added bad news of a bunch of huge titles not being in development for Wii U, so sales are only going to get worse during May and the first half of June. A bit of positive Wii U news would have just been nice.
If they announce their titles too soon Nintendo will appear weak during E3. It was smarter to wait and deliver more news after PS4 and Durango announcements.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

You don't think the Sonic announcement was a "a bit of positive news?" Sounds like the Internet is getting up in little bit of a tizzy over it.
Really? I didn't think anyone cared about Sonic anymore. Maybe this is just what was needed then.
Admittedly its not a series that I am particular in to or really care about, but IGN's comment section is a good sample of the impact of this announcement.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.
What Would Duane Do? Rynoggery
Fisher Price tablet, Sonic old & tired, Christmas cancelled for Nintendo, Dreamcasted, dead man walking.....
I mean really. The problem I have with all this bashing from these articles is they haven't even waited to see results for the others yet. Whenever Nintendo do something they seem to get more and more hate. I really want to type a rant in retaliation to this.
I mean if people turn around 3 years from now and say "Nintendo fans have become worse then Playstation fans" I couldn't hazard a guess why. People can't go 1 month without writing this attention seeking tripe and I seriously can't believe I gave the writer the time of day.
Before writing Wii U off as a failure, wait and see how it compares to the others and how it improves.

I feel your pain. But it's all for views, man, so don't take it too personally. It once used to be circulation numbers when gaming news was in magazine format, but now it's all about the views counter. Writers need to constantly wrack their brains to think of "flame baity" titles that will put them maybe one step ahead of their cubicle mate when it comes to article views and comments. These games sites don't have a lot of money, so when that quarterly review of the writers comes around, guess who's getting the boot? The dude/gal with the fewest views on their pieces. I know. I've been there. I interned at a games website and it's a brutal, dog-eat-dog environment.
The writer in me wants to feel for these people because I understand what they are most likely going through to make a buck. However, the writer in me also wants to scream at the total collapse of ethics and rationality amidst the sensationalism and mob mentalities that run rampant on the internet. When it comes to games "journalism" these days, there really isn't much integrity out there. Do yourself a favor and just try not to look at all that slop.
I thought the direct was good enough and I liked it quite a lot.

It was awesome Nintendo and sega have a new partnership maybe in the future total war will come to the wii u exclusively who knows! Europe/Australia get pikmin 3 before the usa awesome hahaha! and I can't wait for new super luigi u what did you like and what did you want to see I personally wish they showed more of Zelda windwaker hd remake or a 3d Mario but they're probably saving the big guns for e3 glad to know pikmin 3's release date though!
Two words spring to mind for me "very disappointing" just none of the games I wanted to hear about were mentioned, Mario U (3D), Mario Kart U, Bayonetta 2, Yarn Yoshi etc.
Also still not a single thing said about GameCube games coming to VC.
Finally while the 3DS is getting a brand new Mario Golf, the Wii U gets a crappy Winter Sports game, very poor.
This is my honest opinion, sorry!
That's what happens when you get your expectations too high. Again, they're saving all the big juicy stuff for E3, which is why this particular Direct was rather lackluster.
As for me, I got tons of Pikmin 3 eye candy to oogle at, so I'm satisfied. Sucks that we Americans get it last though.
Yeah it's only 8 days later but that's a lot! when you think about it because pikmin 3 is the only real new game that's coming out and it's still 2 month away! but USA normally get games first so it was just nice that for once Australia and Europe got it before them not that it matters to much but as I said it kind of does an extra 8 days feels like an extra month when you anticipate this game so much and no new games are being released but pikmin 3!
Yeah...thanks for rubbing it in (intended or not).
Nah I don't mean to rub it in I wish games would just have a worldwide release each time so everywhere in the world gets them on the exact same day!

Wow thanks for that information I never knew that's what the writers went through hell I feel bad for them if they have to write bad reviews for wii u to keep there job that's just sad I actually feel really bad for them it seems like a very hard place to be in the industry!
It is a pretty stressful work environment, to be sure, not helped at all by an economy that's been down for awhile and a decreased "traditional" presence of paper media like newspapers and magazines. We've been seeing more and more: 1UP being completely shuttered, IGN restructuring and shedding some personnel... it's an uncertain infrastructure to be a part of right now.
About the time I was brought on as an intern I entered with two other people, a guy and a girl. We were required to write six stories a week, and after a period of roughly three months we were evaluated by the editors of the site. The guy I was brought in with was let go due to consistently low view counts on his write ups. It was brutal as we'd come to get to know one another over that time and would bounce story ideas back and forth. I left a bit later to pursue my career in a different area, but it was certainly an eye-opening experience. Totally awesome, but the pressure was palpable on a daily basis.
