The Wonderful 101.
Often overlooked, but it's the most exhilarating action game I've probably ever played.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Platforming perfection.
Affordable Space Adventures.
The best co-op multiplayer game of the generation requiring skill, tactics and real communication.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
The most refined entry in one of gaming's most acclaimed fighting series. The lack of adventure mode and the overpowering of some items are negatives prior entries may not share, but the sheer scope of the game, the size and balance and variety of the roster, and the physics that strike a perfect balance between technical and accessible make it one that no multiplayer or fighting fan should miss.
Splatoon.
An utterly refreshing online multiplayer shooter. The lackluster local multiplayer and lack of voice chat keep it from being all it could be (fingers crossed for a future-console sequel), but the online action is unique, engaging, fast-paced, and enjoyable for players of all types.
All experiences you can't find or even approximate anywhere else.
Splatoon
Pikmin 3
Affordable Space Adventures
Mario Kart 8
Tropical Freeze
Bayonetta 2
Wonderful 101
Smash U
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Yoshi's Woolly World
Runbow
Mario 3D World
Super Mario Maker
Armillo is a great exclusive 3D platformer.
Sonic Lost World.
Mario Kart 8.
Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate.
Shantae And The Pirate's Curse.
Pier Solar HD.
Freedom Planet.
Shovel Knight.
Alphadia Genesis.
Upcoming games:
Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.
Zelda U.
Starfox Zero.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Blackwater.
Shantae ½ Genie Hero.
Soul Saga.
Project Light.
Chromophore: Two Brothers Director's Cut.
Earthlock: Festival of Magic.
For me the absolute must play games are Rayman Legends, Super Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Splatoon and Super Mario Maker. There's a lot of very good games that are better versions than what you've played before like MK8 and Supet Smash Bros and some flawed gems like Wonderful 101.
Windwaker HD
Bayonetta 1/2
Child of Light
Stick it to the Man
Splatoon
Smash Bros.
Mario Kart 8
Yoshi's Woolly World
Don't Starve
Little Inferno
Hyrule Warriors
Those are by no means "must-have"s. I had a hard time getting into Super Smash Brothers in the beginning, for example. Many people will find Don't Starve too frustrating, Little Inferno too boring, Yoshi's Woolly World too cute, ...
Those are games that I played and enjoyed a lot.
Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.
Not enough Pikmin 3 in this thread. Luckily we already have a Wii U recommendations thread where people are not blind and realise the great glory that is Pikmin 3:
