Topic: The Wii U has finally done it!

The Wii U is in all likelihood a good console, but it has lacked "Must-Buy" titles for me. I've owned the poor thing since Christmas 2012, but have not bought a single game for it. 2015 looks better, but so far this whole generation has just lacked something for me.

Done what, caught fire? I told you all that dust was a hazard, man.

But yeah, I bought the Wii U knowing it wasn't gonna see much use until around the point that XCX would come out, but it's good to see that I'll have quite a bit more to play than just Xeno by late 2015.

Well its like that for most consoles. I bought my xbox one knowing full well that the three games I want the most (Fable, Halo 5, and Quantum Break) won't be out till next year. Also it depends on what type of games you want in the first place.

I think all of the consoles are starting to hit their stride. Master Chief Collection for Xbox One is going to rock, and the Wii U has been kicking butt ever since MK8 hit. My biggest problem is finding enough time to play everything!

Of course it is just a matter of opinion and taste. If you ask me, for example, I would say W101 and 3D World have the magic, as do MK8 and even Pikmin 3.

Though I haven't played W101 (though I loved the demo) or 3D World the other two absolutely have that magic that Nintendo is so well known for. When I played Pikmin 3 I experienced something I hadn't felt in such a long time and that something is the feeling of going on a true adventure, complete with funny dialogue and world class game design. As for Mario Kart 8, there really is no need for an explanation of that game seeing as everyone seems to love it, but suffice to say I think it is the best one in the series, though I haven't played Super Mario Kart or Super Circuit!

Mario Kart 8 is a gem? No. Just... No.

Nintendo hasn't put out a single "gem" for the Wii U. The best Nintendo made game I've played on it has been a remake: Wind Waker HD. SM3DW is good, for it's stride in local multiplayer and graphics, but the mechanics and concepts are a safe rehash. Same goes for MK8, which I got about a week of enjoyment out of. Pikmin 3 is good, but a tad abrupt. Only major game I've missed so far is DK Tropical Freeze and I'll try that this fall. SMBU is garbage.

Assassin's Creed IV is still the best experience I've had on Wii U to date (hate away), but I expect Bayonetta 2 to top that. I don't think Nintendo is going to put out a truly great game until Zelda U. That game should be good and I'm asking for a masterpiece after the giant wet fart Skyward Sword was.

What about the Captain Toad missions? I disagree with what you're saying in general but the Captain Toad sections are a clearly cut non-safe rehash, it's platforming with no jumping.

That's such a small part of the game that it's probably not going to factor into your opinion of the game that much. Captain Toad's own game, on the other hand, is more deserving of the "not rehash" label because that gameplay style is the main event, not just an extra in each world.

If you expect Bayo 2 to top your current best experience, why not try W101?

Those riding on the back of nessie levels or whatever is they have never done that before.

Those honeycomb levels (Overhead with boomerang Mario) play like a totally different genre.

Except I have played it, and I know that elements are in the game. Mario Kart Wii is amazing, Mario Kart 8 is somewhat similar, but removes key elements like wheelies and true inside drift. If I didn't have Mario Kart Wii, 8 would be a great purchase, but I don't so it's really not special.

Wow, you're complaining about the removal of the unfair advantages bikes had over carts in MK Wii? That's ridiculous! That was one of the worst things about MK Wii. I have no issues with bikes in the games, but it's still Mario KART and yet in MK Wii you were pretty much forced to use bikes to win online races because of the poorly designed bike mechanics.

I'm sorry, but MK 8 is just the better game, period. This is not even open for debate IMO. I do like MK Wii a lot, but 8 has it beat on almost every level. Stunning graphics, beautiful music, super smooth 60FPS gameplay, more diverse gameplay with the anti-gravity, underwater and gliders. Not to mention all the customization options. I know the battle mode is broken, but I've personally never cared about the battle mode anyway.

If anything, wouldn't you want it just to race online since MK Wii's servers are gone now? Yeah, I know you can still race MK Wii online with those custom servers, but that requires hacking your Wii and jumping through a lot of hoops. Much easier to just pick up MK 8 at the store!

Mario Kart Wii was terrible in my opinion. It took a lot of skill out of the game and made it too much of a party game for my tastes. Mario Kart 8 is more of a racer which I like but still keeps luck as a factor (with items). Mario Kart 8 is also just the better game in general. I never had a race online in MKW that felt fair. I got hit by way too many powerful items often going from 2nd or 3rd back to 12th and never being able to catch up. The few times I finished in a good spot it turned out to be lag and my true placing was way lower than normal. Wii was probably the worst Mario Kart in the series (still would have given it a high 7 or low 8) MK8 is my new favorite in the series. After playing MK8 I can't imagine going back to an older version of the game (except maybe double dash). I don't know why you hate MK8 so much but Wii is not better than it by any stretch of the imagination (unless you just love party games that punish skilled players)

Very good points you make there. Another big plus with MK 8 is that even when someone does send a blue shell after you, you at least have a chance to deflect it with the super horn if you're lucky enough to get one in first place.

Also, let's not forget how MK Wii's online quickly got ruined by hackers. Nintendo has done a great job making sure 8's online is not hacked and wrecked.
