Why are we having this message on almost all battle mode games? Does anyone know why? We don't have any problems with our internet connection on other devices. we are on version 2.3
@Linzbam: It could be your internet service provider's upload speed. Mines plays with no trouble at around 5Mbps at my home, but when I took it to a friends house in a different state with a different provider, It have the same problem with unstable/lost connection but everything else like Netflix, Hulu, and my other device worked ok. When I did a connection test, I notice the upload speed average 2Mbps.
Pretty much his connection is good for downloading and streaming videos but not intense gaming.

Yes, it's due to changes Nintendo have made in the Splatoon V2 update. Subsequent 2.x updates also have the changes. You can tell this is where the problems began (and that they're not related to your router or network connection specifically) because the Splatoon demo still works fine for Testfire events with the exact same setup that refuses to work with V2.
Nintendo will not acknowledge the problem or reverse the changes. I am currently trying to put pressure on them to provide refunds to those affected. The effort has been ongoing since September and I am not planning on giving up just yet.

I highly doubt they'll provide refunds if you played the game for some time...

I had to sell the game because it simply turned unplayable. I played it non stop without any kind of problem until the update broke the game for me. I know its not the internet connection, I play online with other consoles and my family stream movies all day.

Exactly. I'm sorry that you had to sell the game.
Hopefully we will get some justice and you can buy the game again to enjoy it once more. If you're not too burned by the whole issue.

I'll repurchase the game the instant Nintendo fixes the problem, after all, Splatoon was my favorite game for the console, which makes selling it hurt a lot more.

It'd be great if you could get in contact with me - my website containing email and twitter details is listed on my profile. Thanks!

Do you have access to the sourcecode? If not, you're just guessing what is causing the problems for you. Someone else on this forum knows for sure his connection problems were caused by last week's server maintenance. Highly unlikely, but the fact of the matter is that nobody knows and lots of users are not experiencing the same issues.

They did make changes in 2.0.0, by providing much more "Connection is Unstable" messages (and subsequent disconnects) for users with connections that don't handle all the packets properly. Since 2.0.0, the number of players with one-second (or even more) lags has virtually disappeared.

Streaming only requires a fast download speed. Splatoon requires both a good download AND upload speed, with no lost packets. A 1-2mps (or more) connection in both directions and full duplex (wired transfer) with no interference should solve it.
Even if no issues were noticed when playing on pre-v2.0.0 doesn't mean that your connection didn't cause issues for the 7 other players.
EDIT: Connection issues in the lobby is another thing. That can be caused by things like router issues in the home network or matchmaking server issues.
@LztheQuack: if they do, they should seriously consider replacing it with a Cisco/Linksys router. I had mysterious connection issues with Animal Crossing New Leaf multi-player events. Just that one game, everything else was working fine. Nothing i tried (DMZ, port forwarding, static IP etc etc) solved the problem. In the end i just gave up and purchased a new Linksys router and it just worked, straight out of the box without any fiddling.
Take it from someone with 10+ years experience in customer support: network connection issues are the hardest nuts to crack and there is no magic potion (or code) that will solve everyone's problems.

Interestingly we have access to three different snapshots of the source code in compiled binary format: demo, retail, updated. By doing black box testing in a controlled environment we can see differences in operation. This is a pretty standard approach to QA, not rocket science, and not really debatable.
This is why I mentioned it in my previous post. We can compare the performance of the demo and the updated game on the same hardware and network connection/router and see the problem quite easily.
