Yay another thread were Ninty fanboys can rant about how revolutionary everything Nintendo does is~

I know, but nobody really can blame them. Large number of people here are kids still dependent of their parents getting them the Wii U & nothing more. It's hard to see the bigger picture &/or coming out of the box beyond the Wii U when you're heavily invested on it & going multiplatform less than a year is such a huge cost.

can we knock it off with the assumptions about other users' backgrounds? none of that is necessary for this discussion, and it's actually pretty offensive. people are going to like what they like and/or mistakenly parrot rumor as fact regardless of whether they purchase it or their parents do. :/

As his been stated, the cartoon is not showing a misunderstanding about the Wii U by the cartoonist. I think there are many ways to interpret it, but I think it's kind of showing how it's hard to take the big talk from Reggie seriously with all the stupid choices Nintendo has made in the past. Pretty much what Scar said, they can't live down the friend codes.

Yep, Wii U as a name makes absolutely no sense. I thought the whole reason behind the name Wii was the idea that "we play together." So then what does the U mean? That it's more of a single player console? Not to mention that never in history has the letter U been used to signify a successor or sequal. And even the U in the logo doesn't look like a U until you look closely. At first glance, someone who doesn't know about the Wii U might just see a blue box after the word Wii. Sometimes Nintendo's decisions are just baffling.

There's really nothing on Wii U's playbook right now other than the Gamepad innovation. Strip it on its tablet controller & it will have nothing. Its raw power is current gen. It's gameplay will very much be the same without the Gamepad innovation. The delay after delay of it's top tier games more or less what's going to take it to its doom. If it needs to do things right it better do it soon rather than later.

Last year marked the rise of mobile gaming which took the biggest piece in last year's sales overall. Some critics said this next gen console gaming could be the last. It seems impossible to imagine at first but there's truth to it even if it's just slight. This year will marks the beginning of a different breed of gaming console. First is Ouya & Apple TV which targets mainly Indie game developers. I don't see this two as a threat on the hardcore gaming market but for the casual gaming market (this two in addition to smartphone/tablet gaming) will add up on the lost on console gaming sales. The real threat in the hardcore gaming market is Nvidia's Project Shield & Valve's Steam Box. This two will also eat up some of the sales of the hardcore gaming market.

Sony is positioning itself by looking beyond the typical Wii U Gamepad off TV play innovation. It's going to address the issue of smartphone/tablet mobile gaming but also using this gadgets to be able to play PS4 while on the go.

Guys, we're not in a box & maybe it's time for you to take a look beyond just the Wii U. This is not going to be all about the Wii U, PS4 & Nextbox if ever we're talking about the next console war. Couple of days ago Samsung promised about significant leap of it's mobile hardware & even talking about the future of mobile gaming - that it would not be long for smartphones & tablets to be able to run games that you normally can only run on consoles & PC. Some games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted which is already available on IOS & Android is not yet there at the current gen level but almost. It's also very cheap (less than $4).

Mobile gaming was such a huge topic in the last Nintendo's investors meeting that Saturo Iwata punched a Nintendo investor when the latter kept pressing him about it. Nintendo right now doesn't have an answer to this even if it's going to go on the Cloud route which Saturo Iwata more likely not go as he said repeatedly. Even if Nintendo will go on the Cloud route with the Wii U it's still limited cuz the Gamepad itself only use Bluetooth technology & not Wi-Fi to stream games. It can only do it at short distance. The only way Nintendo will be face this threat right now is with Virtual Console & allowing more Indie games on its game line up.

Tablet gamings definetly taking the casual gamers, I dont think this is the last console generation though, everyone has ideas to combat it, like how nintendo has combined their portable and home console branches, I dont know what youd call that kind of console, probably just a portable?

The Wii U is a misunderstood console. Why its named a Wii U is the biggest mistake made by Nintendo. It added to the confusion.

Wii U is definetly not the best name, but they couldnt name it the wii 2 because in japanese 2 is pronounced ni, so we'd all be playing Wii Ni's right now

My Sony fanboy "friend" simply says, "The Wii U sucks; just look at how much ZombiU sucks." I could throttle him.
Another one of my friends (who's actually a good person) said that he couldn't get a Wii U because he doesn't own a Wii.

I think both Nintendo & Sony should drop futher plans of another portable gaming console if they have any & just concentrate on its current ones (3DS & PS Vita) & it's next gen consoles if it where to survive. The portable gaming console business is heading to its grave. It's basically dead as far as I'm concerned. My younger kids alone nowadays prepare to play on their iPads than on their 3DSs. You can download lots of games on it for free. The games for sale cost only $1-$2. There's also lots & lots of games to choose from. It's just impossible for Nintendo & Sony to go after the mobile gaming industry. A total waste of money.

There is still a huge market for the 3DS. The 3DS is actually doing extremely well. I think Nintendo should adopt their portable strategy for their console market. The 3DS version of Gunman Clive sold better than any other platform. The problem with mobile gaming is that there are a lot of titles released just to make a quick buck, very few gems on the mobile market. The 3DS market has a lot more gems and they are almost all exclusive. The 3DS is doing well even against the mobile market.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

You really don't know much about the industry for someone who acts so dogmatic.

Ya. About 3DS not being relevant compared to smart phones... There was an article recently here on NL talking about it. It's complete BS that anyone would think tablet/smart phone gaming would win out of that battle.
3DS kills those games. Some are available on both, and the 3DS akways wins. Buttons, 3D, still having touch control(that is stylus based), better graphics, uses the mic in games sometimes, 2 screens, and a better battery in the XL.
I honestly don't like PS Vita at all compared to 3DS, and I would still vote PS Vita over tablet/smart phone games anyday.
Not only can people buy both without one or the other wiping each other out, but dedicated gaming consoles will always be king for gaming. Phones are phones, and tablets are turning into PCs.

Lots of nonsense spouted by a particular someone in the last few pages. I don't know where to start and I'm not sure I'll even bother to counter it. The Ouya is going to be a competitive device? That remote play like what is done with the Wii U, Vita/PS3 and Shield is feasible over 3G/4G? That the "next gen" ness of a device is defined by a leap in input and/or power rather than time of competitiveness?

I didn't see anybody misunderstanding it. Some people just think it's expensive. But I think everyone is smart enough to understand exactly what it is. And if the economy was better, many more people would have upgraded their Wii's by now, and probably will at some point.

Look at the news bros. Nintendo is getting into smartphone games already. The portable gaming business is getting sour.

I'm not stuck on the Wii U like you. I got so many options on my gaming that's why I'm open to inevitable changes.
