I'm not really sure how the cartoon strip shows a misunderstanding?

I don't use it for gaming, I use it to edit my server when I'm away, ya I'm good with 3G because that's the speed of my home Internet..... I need faster Internet in general, i've had the same internet for almost 10 years, and somehow I can runna server off it but ya if it works, awesome! Next upgrade I'm going to upgrade to a 4G capable phone for sure

Don't run your server at home. There's plenty of server providers out there that provide it for you for free with limited storage space. I tried running both web (XAMMP, WAMP Apache distribution) & game servers at home before & it's extremely hard to maintain it ON all the time. You can access your site files via FTP with an FTP uploader app.

I looked into that, but I had an extra pc laying around so I just run it off that, its just a little private server for my friends and family to use

My classmate said that in his opinion that Wii U was an add-on for the Wii. When I told him it was a new console with better graphics and HD, and had it's own line of games and could play original Wii games, he said he knows Nintendo "isn't able to do that". -_-

Oh, and when I told him to look it up on Wikipedia or something, he said he was going to look it up on google instead, because "google is a reliable source, unlike wikipedia".

What an idiot.

I don't think the artist is under the impression Wii U uses friend codes. I think it's a joke aimed at how Nintendo sometimes claim to be innovating when they're just doing what others have done. So in this case, by dropping friend codes and having a user friendly online system, Nintendo will have a decent friend system and will probably claim that to be revolutionary. Just my take on it.

I thought the joke is more that Nintendo's innovative speeches have been old and for increasingly less interesting (for gamers) things while the important stuff has been a sort of "yes, this is happening, ok guys? Sheesh." sort of statement or something like that.

There's really nothing on Wii U's playbook right now other than the Gamepad innovation. Strip it on its tablet controller & it will have nothing. Its raw power is current gen. It's gameplay will very much be the same without the Gamepad innovation. The delay after delay of it's top tier games more or less what's going to take it to its doom. If it needs to do things right it better do it soon rather than later.

Last year marked the rise of mobile gaming which took the biggest piece in last year's sales overall. Some critics said this next gen console gaming could be the last. It seems impossible to imagine at first but there's truth to it even if it's just slight. This year will marks the beginning of a different breed of gaming console. First is Ouya & Apple TV which targets mainly Indie game developers. I don't see this two as a threat on the hardcore gaming market but for the casual gaming market (this two in addition to smartphone/tablet gaming) will add up on the lost on console gaming sales. The real threat in the hardcore gaming market is Nvidia's Project Shield & Valve's Steam Box. This two will also eat up some of the sales of the hardcore gaming market.

Sony is positioning itself by looking beyond the typical Wii U Gamepad off TV play innovation. It's going to address the issue of smartphone/tablet mobile gaming but also using this gadgets to be able to play PS4 while on the go.

Guys, we're not in a box & maybe it's time for you to take a look beyond just the Wii U. This is not going to be all about the Wii U, PS4 & Nextbox if ever we're talking about the next console war. Couple of days ago Samsung promised about significant leap of it's mobile hardware & even talking about the future of mobile gaming - that it would not be long for smartphones & tablets to be able to run games that you normally can only run on consoles & PC. Some games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted which is already available on IOS & Android is not yet there at the current gen level but almost. It's also very cheap (less than $4).

Mobile gaming was such a huge topic in the last Nintendo's investors meeting that Saturo Iwata punched a Nintendo investor when the latter kept pressing him about it. Nintendo right now doesn't have an answer to this even if it's going to go on the Cloud route which Saturo Iwata more likely not go as he said repeatedly. Even if Nintendo will go on the Cloud route with the Wii U it's still limited cuz the Gamepad itself only use Bluetooth technology & not Wi-Fi to stream games. It can only do it at short distance. The only way Nintendo will be face this threat right now is with Virtual Console & allowing more Indie games on its game line up.

The comic was supposed to show how Reggie will talk about a new controller that brings new opportunities to console gaming, and some people still can't think past the friend codes.
Obviously they're gone now, and there's only one 3DS friend code that could disappear if/when they give more connection options between their systems.
They've already explained why there is friend codes multiple times. We might as well complain that we can't contact anyone without their phone number on a phone. Same s***. It's just a more difficult strand of numbers to remember.
I never really cared, because I mainly refuse to accept random friend requests.

@Peach64
It's not about making it seem like they innovate when they don't. That's troll status right there... They've done way more than just limit online temporarily on their home consoles. If that's the only thing you can get out of everything Nintendo has done in the past 9 years, I pity you.

@Cheaptrick
Iwata punched a fool?
Anyways, Wii U is stronger than you apparently think. Like I said in another thread, the Wii U should be able to handle at least 30-40% better software than what is currently on other platforms. Of course, this is a educated guess, but I'm not BSing.

I know, but nobody really can blame them. Large number of people here are kids still dependent of their parents getting them the Wii U & nothing more. It's hard to see the bigger picture &/or coming out of the box beyond the Wii U when you're heavily invested on it & going multiplatform less than a year is such a huge cost.

The thing is - some of this new gaming platforms will be coming in the next few months or so with both Ouya Kickstarter & Apple TV will also be competing on the Indie sector cutting potential huge chunk (with mobile gaming) of the entire gaming market. Not sure if Virtual Console or Indie games on the eShop is enough when some of this Indie type of games you can now get on mobile gaming platform.
