The title of this thread is "Nintendo Needs Their Own First Person Shooter". I don't think they do, because I and many others don't care for the genre. Unless of course you want this thread to be a bunch of people agreeing with no different viewpoints whatsoever. It's that simple.

yes! something to compete with halo/killzone would be nice! i would be ok with it if they make it more "nintendo" as well, something like a comic art style etc.
or a big metroid multiplayer, that could work as well.

or let sega make a vanquish sequel or something in the spirit of vanquish in first-person.

Seeing Nintendo have recently come out saying they're not looking to enter the online gaming race any time soon, I can't see how a Ninty FPS would work.

Plus I'm guessing 95% of Nintendo owners don't really want to play a FPS on a Nintendo system, and 4.99% that do are probably happy with COD.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Eh, that comment was just regarding SM3DW.

Also, Metroid Prime says hi.

Didn't Retro say something a while back, before E3, that they were working on a new IP similar to Metroid that uses and maximizes the gamepad capabilities? I swear I read this on an IGN article.. I never heard of it again. In fact, this is what had me expecting something completely different than DK:TF being announced at E3.

I would like a FPS on the Wii U.. Nintendo helped define the genre after all. Decent multiplayer would be nice, too. Come on Nintendo, you can do it.

I would personally wouldn't mind a Nintendo FPS game on the Wii U. I think they could really do some good to make a fresh experience for a dying, dull, and over-saturated genre. Some sort of cell-shaded shooter would be cool, better add some humor too.

So... Borderlands?

Sounds like Timesplitters to me.

The market is already flooded with the FPS genre. In fact I like Nintendo BECAUSE they don't do FPS stuff and actually go a different path.

But at the same time if Nintendo did make a game that isn't the overdone dark and gritty tone and had a fresh outlook on the whole idea, I'd be interested.

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were very successful on the N64 back in the day. I think if Nintendo did their own FPS series and marketed it right, it could be a huge success.

Have Retro make the game. They have proven they can carry the torch with Donkey Kong and Metroid. Nintendo needs to give them the freedom to brand new IPs that they create. I thing Retro if given a chance could create an awesome FPS game.

It's most likely that if Nintendo did release a new FPS, and I hope that Super Mario Paintball never gets made, it would be produced by Retro, or Platinum. You never know, though... Secrets are one of Nintendo's Strong points.
And, For those who didn't know: Perfect Dark is an amazing game. Most of the competent "FPS" team that left RARE, went to work on Timesplitters. Free Radical Design, or Crytek. The CryEngine can run on Wii U.

Because we really need more stale FPS games clogging up our systems... The Metroid Prime series is still the best damn FPS money can buy anyway

Have Retro Studios make a spiritual successor to the Goldeneye / Perfect Dark series. Or get an exclusive TimeSplitters game from Crytek UK.

Yeah, the Metroid Prime series is the only First Person Shooter they really need. Honestly, I think the industry is finally getting tired of that genre.

I do wish they would fund another Conduit game, though.

What Nintendo needs is another Eternal Darkness. If not that, just get another exclusive survival horror type game.

Looking for some 3DS and Wii U friends. PM me if interested!

I remember the opposite, with the head of Retro saying, post-E3, that they were only focusing on Donkey Kong at this time and didnt have anything else planned. It was during the 'backlash' they were receiving as fans were disappointed that their first Wii-U project was another DK game.

Wait, what? You seem to not like the fps genre, but then you go on to say that you wish they would fund a fps game? One of the least good fps games during the Wii's generation?

And I don't think the "industry" is "finally getting tired" of first person shooters. It's just not as oversaturated as it was a few years ago. Every game genre goes through periods of oversaturation. There are still plenty of people that like the fps genre (as well as people who don't) and there always will be. Right now the third person shooter genre is oversaturated, back in the NES days platformers were the oversaturated genre.

If Nintendo were to make an FPS again then it should NOT be something which is similar to what is already available on the other platforms, why would you want a Halo-a-like or Killzone-a-like or Call of Duty-a-like when you can get them on that platform. I still think they should make a follow up to Geist or, dare I say it a Geist cross Eternal Darkness game. Imagine it for a second, the game tells me to blow into the mic on my gamepad so that I can be annoyed that they're using a stupid gimmick only to have something scream at me and a freaky face show up on the gamepad to scare the be-jesus out of me!!!!
