nah, they should just find a way to get an exclusive one to publish from someone else. Easier, less chance of backlash etc. My personal suggestion is Bulletstorm, since the sequel basically won't happen otherwise.

I agree with you. Do what they are doing with Bayonetta. My preference would be Black. I would like Nintendo to do a FPS, but maybe it's against their morals. Maybe something like a FPS version of SSB. I think that would be fun.

Yep. Golden Eye 007 was the landmark console FPS. "It pioneered features that have since become common in first-person shooters, such as varied mission objectives, a zoomable sniper rifle, stealth elements, and a console multiplayer deathmatch mode". Wiki
A Nintendo System owned FPS in the late nineties.

FPS needs to be played with a keyboard and mouse (Which is too much like work for me so I don't do it very much.)

Half Life 2 and its extra episodes have been the only ones I have been bothered with remotely recently. Metroid Prime is not on the same level. (Not even the same quality throughout on the prime trilogy).

If Nintendo makes an FPS I want them to make it because they had original ideas for one, not because their fans demanded they make one.I don't want them to just make a Halo clone (which is basically what Killzone is) I want something new and innovative that injects some life into a genre that's gotten incredibly stale... or they can just bring back Timesplitters, I'd be ok with that too.

So many FPS out there are shooting for a realistic look but to be honest, the first thing that pops into my mind when I see them is "how real they don't look" "How they fall short of looking real", so I propose Nintendo comes up a FPS that does not even attempt to "look real"

When I think about video games that transport me to another world, they are usually not realistic looking at all. Nintendo has always had the knack for creating beautiful and colorful worlds with characters with personality, vivid and wonderful worlds that suck you in and take you to another world.

I am 45 years old and have played my share of FPSs on other systems but what I crave is one from Nintendo. I don't need there to cursing or sex in it or even blood, I just want it to be fun and vivid and exciting and tense.

I want a new IP and I want it to be a colorful beautiful FPS created with the art style of NIntendo with innovative and tense gameplay.

Cool, I couldn't agree more. I'm not sure it has to be a "shooter" in the traditional sense; I'm thinking Nintendo could make a game that is part Mirror's Edge, part N64 South Park (throwing snowballs instead of grenades). Team death-match without anybody dying or screaming "SH***T!!!!!"

While I agree nintendo could or should make 1 there are a few shooters that aren't all dark and grey.

Borderlands
Plants vs Zombies garden warfare
Mirror's edge
Halo
Killzone
Team fortress
sunset overdrive

Didn't Miyamoto say he wants to create a FPS? Do you think that could be one of those projects he was talking about?

I doubt Miyamoto ever said that. He has said on a few occasions that Nintendo isn't good at making those types of games, so I doubt he has any desire to. Besides, he already starred in Perfect Dark on the n64.

The title of this thread is "Nintendo Needs Their Own First Person Shooter". I don't think they do, because I and many others don't care for the genre.

You and 'many others' are the minority my friend.

Nintendo used to own the FPS market on console with Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. Rare & Nintendo have basically written the blue print on how to make a great FPS on console.

Don't forget Acclaim. Turok had a huge presence on Nintendo systems.

They should definitely fund TimeSplitters 4 and get exclusivity rights. Then maybe the game will finally get made.

Thank you. Sorry for being skeptical, but you know how the internet is.

Oh, well, excuse me for not reading every page the internet has to offer.

I agree, so much.

Honestly, I would love to see a FPS from Miyamoto as I enjoy Miyamoto's work and I like first person shooters. It would be like combining peanut butter and chocolate (hopefully).

@shanesh
I was going to say Pokemon Snap too.

Although it isn't a FPS, Nintendo does have Sin & Punishment. I thought that S&P2 on the Wii was far more of a 'hardcore' shooter than any COD or generic FPS the past gen.

From 3rd parties on the Wii there was the exlusive Conduit and Red Steel series (RS2 is imo one of the best core motion games in existence and only possible on the Wii). Neither sold that well though, so it's doubtful that either would make a 3rd game for the Wii U unless Nintendo paid for it.

Maybe if games like Bayonetta 2 sell well though then Nintendo might look at more typical core games and revive a franchise. Something like TimeSplitters would work well.

One year bump, I know, but I've come up with the exact same idea as OP. Like he said, a Nintendo FPS in their own style. Paintball is the first thing that comes to mind (non-lethal and colorful shooting) but too many jerks would liken it to Splatoon.

Splatoon IS Nintendo's take on FPS...at least until Metroid comes out. But really, FPS are made for PCs. You need your own screen, your own set of commands, and robust connectivity that you can only get in a PC environment. Console FPS games are highly compromised at best.
