I'd say the Wii U still has a chance, but if sales haven't reached 6 million by September, with the release of Mario Kart and 3D World, Nintendo just needs to cut it, make it up with Wii U adopters, get the games in development out, and just put all their guns on the 3DS. The Wii U could still pull itself out, but if it's still dead and the other consoles are surpass it, Nintendo needs to step back, reorganize, change their strategy, and reenter the market as if it just entered, but with a huge amount of money as backup. I honestly would like to see Nintendo hire some young, aspiring game developers, put them over small teams, and have them develop low budget, indie style games in a highly competitive, but collaborative work environment, and grow from there. Sure, Nintendo would still use it's old IPs, but focus more-so on completely new, fresh ideas. Think about this for a second. Ever since the NES, Nintendo has lost dominance in the Console Market, the Wii being the only exception, because of motion control. Starting fresh would end the 'Mario Fatigue' some have been suffering and generate interest in the traditional gaming populace. (I might come back and make this comment better. I'm tired and can't think straight.)

How do YOU define a "hardcore gamer"??? Please, tell me! PLEASE! I just hafta know!
The word "Hardcore" has several meanings in my book, but what i meant in this context was players who only play games that are aimed at adults and THINK that makes them a "hardcore player" & then they completly ignore all the other games including platformers, life sims etc.
Remember when Wii first came out? People who saw what it was & did not care about motion controls, choose'd Xbox 360 or PS3 instead. Those people played much online games with friends (still do) & thats what they only cared for a long time. Nintendo did not have that option with the Wii & looks like they still don't offer same level of online with the Wii U sadly for now. Time will tell if they understand that people really like to play online games. Only couple of Nintendo games had any kind of online multiplayer, mainly Mario Kart on the Wii. Nintendo showed them that they made the right choice.
My own definition of "Hardcore gamer" is player who plays lot of games, but don't really care what system he or she plays them on.
Why are you comparing sales numbers vs current gen consoles, (Wii U = next gen) we already know that PS4 & Xbox One both have +1 million preorders before launch.
Yeah, the only people that care about sales are the MicroSony fanboys that are still furious over the Wii annihilating the PS360... I think it's about time we just all be friends and jump on the ↓

The Wii won the sprint, but the PS3 and 360 won the marathon, and are still even running circles around the Wii-U
not really unless a marathon is about the one who endures the longest instead of the one went further (<- look at this emoticon it is the sign of either sarcasm or joke when I use it don't take what I said seriously please I don't want to start long discussions!)
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

Wii U is selling like 45k/week which is horrible they need 150k /week at least
Hahaha as if!! Nintendo would love to be selling 45,000 Wii-U's a week!
They sold just around 300,000 Wii-U's between July and September, which is about 13.5 weeks. 45K X 13.5 weeks = 607,000. So based on that, they are actually only selling around 22.5K Wii-U's a week. In the prior three month period (April-June), they only sold 160,000 Wii-U's. That equals out to be about 12K consoles sold a week.
@FutureAlphaMale sales have improved since September with a few high profile releases ie. wind waker and sonic. I reckon its closer to 45000 a week for the last month or so and leading upto Christmas hopefully it will improve even more. Granted I don't know the actual figures and at this point it is purely speculation but time will tell.

You are right the Wii won in terms of making the most money out of the seventh gen non handheld consoles which is what matters the most at the end of the day... However, the problem is that the Wii U was designed to do what the Wii did make a quick cash out of the novelty of its gimicky controller, it's obvious it has not been designed to go the distance against the competition. Nintendo is trying to calm people down on the horrible Wii U sales claiming it's a marathon and not a sprint, when the Wii U was clearly designed for a sprint and not a marathon

What a lovely soundbite. Unfortunately, it makes no sense outside of your brain.
Let me break it down in simpler terms...
The Wii flew off the shelves at an alarming rate for about 2-3 years, selling 40+ million units easily. Then it began to slow down, while the PS3 and 360 began to steadily increase in sales. Eventually Wii console sales began to fall off sharply, while the other two systems began to surpass the Wii in monthy sales. Significant software releases on the Wii slowed to a trickle, eventually becoming non existent around 2011. All this was happening while the 360 and PS3 continued to receive strong support from all software developers.
Whats the situation today?
The Wii has been killed off by Nintendo and is no longer being manufactured. No more games are coming out for the system, and its been replaced by the Wii-U.
How are the 360 and PS3 doing?
Both have sold about 80 million consoles and are as strong as ever. Both systems have/will continue to be supported both by Microsoft and Sony, as well as game developers, until AT LEAST 2015. And both CONTINUE to outsell Nintendo's new system, the Wii-U, at an utterly shocking rate.
Now again, @Jack_Package, please explain to me how that is not "winning the marathon"??
The Wii wasnt competing against PS360, and was a success for Nintendo.
Do you really buy the whole Wii isn't competing against the 360/PS3 talk? Because let me introduce you to real world, any system that is looking for a space near your TV is in competition. Companies compete over money and how do they get money? By you purchasing their products. So, if a company is making say a gaming console and another company is also making a gaming console...ya get where I'm going here? These are just facts.

I do actually. Of course you can say that everyone is in competion with everyone else. But the Wii wasnt aimed at the average PS360 player.
Do you think that Coca Cola are in direct competion with Innocent Smoothies?
P.S. Dont patronise me with 'let me introduce you to the real world', kiddo

So they didn't release Kinect and Move to compete with the Wii's Motion controls? They just did it because the average dudebro gamer would absolutely Love games like Kinect Sports and Playstation Move Sports Champions? And it totally didn't affect the Wii's sales in any way? They just bottomed out for some completely unrelated reason?
