Everyone's so defensive, he is absolutely right. Nintendo has had massive massive stock issues. Amiibo stock issues, adapter stock issues.Majoras mask limited edition stock issues. Tons of older games are out of print despite there not being nearly enough new games to keep one entertained. Controllers going on 10 years old are still 40 dollars.without a nunchuck.

Cing is proof that the good die young.

Sony and MS is different you are not wasting some of the best features without loads of extra controllers. (4 Wiimotes and 4 Pro Controllers costs more than the console).

Was that only for certain regions? I got an SNES for my 9th birthday and it came with one controller. I still have that system...the controller is toast from too much street fighter though.

Age has nothing to do with it. The dual shock 3 is 55 bucks (USD) now. I just bought one last week to replace an old controller. That is the standard price of an accessory. It isn't like a game that can be reviewed poorly or have over saturated the market such that retailers (not the publishers usually) drop the prices. Agreed on the amiibo stock issues but if they had over produced they would have had warehouses full of WFT or villager.

I must admit that several nintendo policies are at little bit questionable

HOWEVER!!!!

The controllers, or having to buy a couple of them is IMHO not that bad when you think that Nintendo has the only console where gaming with a lot of people on screen actually makes sense (this is just reasonable thinking, I havent tried it out though... so correct me if I am wrong).
I bought myself a pro controller for about 50 EUR. If I had had the patience I could have grabbed one from amazon for 42 if I remember correctly...
Games stock is a double edged sword. Personally I dont like it when I cant get my games new, I like to unwrap the shrink... and I understand when I cant get older ds games (and I mean games published by nintendo), thats understandable considering the age and this will apply for xbox or ps3 games as well. BUT I cant stand if a game is not available even though its not that old, I am speaking here of Star Fox 64, I dont necessarily need that game, found it a little bit on the easy side back when I had the N64 but still I would like to have it and I cant, same goes for Cave Story 3d - no copies available. - Also when it comes to the old Nintendo ds games, I think the standard games should be made available all the time, I would like to get a copy of spirit tracks, but I cant. Thankfully the have the nintendo select games for wii, so I can get some of the older wii classics at least.

But there is actually a positive side of this coin! I remember when I used to play x360 mostly, its been a long time ago that I bought a game on release. Why? Simply because those games became cheap quite soon, very often I just had to wait about three - six months and I could get the game for half the price, sometimes even lower, so why should I waste money on games that I can get cheaper quite soon. Besides I didnt have so much time to play games so I was constantly behind and games started piling up. Now, when you think about reselling a game (and I am not talking gamestop here) you will generally lose money, thats for sure. But there is a difference if you bought a game for 20 EUR or for 50 EUR and later resell like for 10-15 EUR, the loss is significantly lower.
Its different with nintendo, I realized that prices generally have a tendency to stay the same. It doesnt really matter if the title is old or new, Super Mario 3d World is as expensive as it was when it came out. This is not nice for families who cannot afford too many games but those who buy the game on release will feel that they invested in some value, first they can get a significant amount of back even after years, second you dont feel like you have made a bad investment or could have waited just one month and get it half price. - Right now I ordered Captain Toad Treasure Tracker with a T-Shirt. Back in the day I wouldnt have cared for a T-shirt if I could get the game for halfprice in half a year. RIght now it doesnt really matter and the t-shirt was 7 EUR more than the regular price so why not?

I bought my Wiimotes over the years when there were deals or by trading in older games that brought down the price of a wiimote significantly.Games might i add, that were given to me so no loss on my end. That may not be the case for you all but I find prices to be reasonable even if the cost to make them is 4 times lower than what they charge regardless of company. I only bought 1 pro controller. we have at least 4 wiimotes, 2 classic controllers, 1 pro, and several nunchucks. Point is, gotta be a bargain hunter or wait for those "buy this game with wiimote included" deals.

Honestly, we're paying for Nintendo's EVERYTHING. That's how business works, doesn't it?

No.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Actually, it seems like the Wii U is the CHEAPEST console to buy for, if you only own that system. There isn't as many games coming out, so you won't have as much to buy. (I'm not complaining though, because it lets me get a HUGE chunk of the Wii U's awesome library, even though I would obviously prefer 3rd parties to be there too. I would love to just own a Nintendo console only for once.) Also the controllers are priced the SAME as the other companies. Many of the games that ARE coming out, are releasing at budget prices. So like maybe $40 to $50 each. With HUGE $60 games not coming out too often. Also, you don't have to pay for online, and Nintendo offers great DLC for cheap! MK8 and Hyrule Warriors for example.

Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

No, if the Wii U was selling like hotcakes Nintendo would still not drop the price. Nintendo sets the value of their product and sticks to for a long time.

Lol this is the internet. Non agreement always equals zealous fan. I try to use sony and ms (to make my point) in my statements so I don't have to hear fangirl arguments but it doesn't work as often as I'd like.

I agree. It's not the money that bothers me, it's the fact their mistakes seem so obvious that I would have avoided most of them with no prior experience selling consoles. It's the fact that my 3rd party support doesn't exist because Nintendo thought people would buy a console off the back of its name without being told about the console's existence.

Wii - most successful Nintendo console, a generation behind on specs, good games, much cheaper than rivals, advertised heavily with celebrity endorsements, sponsorship of TV programmes with its features explained in each advert.

Wii U - least successful Nintendo console, a generation behind on specs, good games, barely cheaper than rivals, never advertised, mocked by people being paid to promote it and the only advert that explained it got banned.

Are we paying for [insert company name here] f-up? topic. Great.

You should meet up with that guy who accuses gamers for everything, even though it's about society and not even gaming related. You could have hrs of talk and maybe even not make any more topics like that.

Not in the EU. Probably because of this : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/2375967.stm

Yeah, Nintendo stuff in particular drops like crazy here in the UK as retailers don't want stock sitting on their shelves for months. I've not paid over £30 for any Wii U game and most of them were £20. If Nintendo had their way everything would be £50. The issue the OP is facing is stuff that had a really, really low level of stock to begin with, like amiibo. Nintendo seem to think everyone will love the gamepad so much, they wouldn't want a pro controller, so it's always been hard to get. I imported a white one from Japan for just under £30 I think, something around there.

I live in a small-ish town. We have a Game store, HMV, and the big three UK supermarkets. Between them there's probably only about 10 different Wii U products (amiibo included) on the shelves, and the prices are nearly always uncompetitive. Just seems like the window between release and unavailable is too short. If you're undecided about a game on release, or maybe just have too many others in your backlog, you miss the boat and have to buy 'used' or pay heavily inflated prices (sometimes both). Not sure how that helps Nintendo.

I've bought more new games this year than ever before, but can't justify paying 35 quid for all the great games I don't yet have. If Pikmin, W101, SMw3D, DK:TF, NFS:MW (to name the obvious ones) could be had for £20 then I would slowly be adding them to my collection.

But due to scarcity they're all over £30 (even for used on eBay in most cases) and rising. I miss out, the developers miss out and the retailers miss out, adding to the toxic reputation the Wii U has in the eyes of consumers, retailers and 3rd parties.

Maintain some stock levels of what is generally agreed to be a great library of games and sales can tick along as system ownership slowly increases.
