Topic: Are we paying for Nintendo's f-up?

1. I love my Wii U. I also own 2 Wiis and a Gamecube. I do not hate Nintendo.

2. I want the Wii U to get the appreciation it deserves in terms of reputation and sales.

3. I don't understand why Wii/Wii U accessories (e.g. Wii remote+,) are so expensive. The Wii U, with it's v.Wii feature, is a brilliant family/party option, but if someone wants to buy in to it, buy 4 x wiimote+, 4 x nunchuck, 4 x pro controller etc. then that's a lot of money (currently £400 if you buy that lot at Amazon.co.uk). The Wiimote tech has been around for years now - why should it still cost £35 for one wiimote+? These additional costs influence system buying decisions.

4. Because of the lack of general Wii U sales, those that are committed to the system are getting squeezed. Amazon.co.uk's current price for the Wii U pro controller is £50!!! Scribblenauts Unlimited is £43.

Nintendo's refusal to cut the price of it's hardware and ensure that there is adequate supply of physical copies of games is letting retailers exploit committed Wii U fans.

I recommend playing Wii U games wholeheartedly... but it's a little harder recommending the system to those who don't own one because we're getting shafted due to lack of supply. Perhaps this is inevitable with a system that has flunked sales-wise and so I should expect all this, but Nintendo seem to be doing very little to encourage me to support another system.

Enjoy your exclusive games, lower console prices, and good communication with the fan base.

Also where the F*ck did you find Scibblenaunts for 43$ (I get that it's actually more than that in Euro), it's 20$ everywhere I've ever seen.

So Nintendo accessories cost about the same or a little less than other consoles, OK.

Yeh, those other consoles that have outsold the Wii U in half the time. The Wii remote tech was released in 2007, and the 'Plus' portion was out in 2010. Millions and millions of these things are in circulation, but the price has held. The markup on the accessories is doing nothing to encourage new users. Butthurt or no butthurt.

"Out of Stock".

Care to guess when they'll be replenishing that stock...?

Game has lots of great prices, all for things that are out of stock.

I see where you're trying to go with this... But if you remember, the reason for NOT including a Waggle-stick was due to the MILLIONS of Waggle-sticks already sold and out in the world (at least according to Reggie). As for controllers costing as much as they do, it's a one time purchase. all consoles have expensive controllers, that hasn't stopped "them" from selling millions of units at launch. Cost of peripherals is not THE most important aspect of purchasing a console, not as much as let's say, games (that are released on time) at launch. Yeah, there's a lot of carp peripherals and about two too many controller options, but as stated, they are optional.

Who pays full price for a Wii Remote?.....You can get them bundled in with a game for less then the the normal price of the controller.

And honestly the fact that the Wii U has undersold projections means I've saved a ton of money on the games I've purchased. I know prices in Europe can be more then here in the States but I've grabbed half dozen games for $15 or less. I got my pro controller for $19.99. I think I spent a total of $60 to upgrade my Wii Remotes to the plus version and got 4 games in the process.

I bought my Wii U in the midst of the great game drought of 2013 for $250 with NintendoLand and 2 other crap games that I resold on Ebay for $20. Probably been the cheapest gaming console I've purchased since SNES if you wanna include inflation.

The GameCube adapter and Amiibo is a whole other situation though. Fortunately for me I just don't really care about either so the scalping and prices of those haven't bothered me

Why did you pick Scribblenauts Unlimited specifically? It's also on Windows, you know. Besides, third party games drop in price faster than first party, and considering the controllers are also first party... there ya go.

(1) You don't need to buy every available controller and accessory. Why do you even want four Pro Controllers? Only buy what you actually need and stop worrying about having full sets of everything possible.
(2) If still concerned about pricing, shop sales or buy used. There are literally millions of these controllers out there, they aren't that hard to find for reasonable prices if you look around.

So people are always willing to pay like $50+ for XBOXONE/PS4 controllers, yet when we have to pay $40 for Wii remotes & $50 for pro controllers it's "overpriced" and some sort of conspiracy of scaming people??

Hold up, y'all - I seem to be taking flak here when all I did was raise it as a discussion. I ain't hatin, but it's like there's a fanboy party going on here this afternoon.

You find me a UK retailer selling a Wii Remote+ for anything significantly under £35 then.

MrWalkieTalkie wrote:

Who mentioned anything about a conspiracy or scam. I'm just suggesting that Nintendo seems to be standing by while retailers exploit the customers who have supported the console. In the UK, many Wii U products are becoming scarce and prices are going up.

I guess it's probably because the Wii U seems to have particularly struggled in the UK and Nintendo is losing interest, but given how well resourced Nintendo is it would be better PR if the company ensured a healthy ongoing supply of product.

Sure, but if you want a struggling product to improve sales-wise, then artificially high accessories would seem a sensible option in thinking about price cuts.

Not always - The Super Famicom came with two controllers as standard like it should have.

Sony and MS is different you are not wasting some of the best features without loads of extra controllers. (4 Wiimotes and 4 Pro Controllers costs more than the console).

Yes, I'm sure Wii U sales would improve greatly if Wii Remotes were 30 bucks.

So, is this just another Nintendo marketing/sales thread, or is it about finding good prices?

If you have problems finding good prices in the UK, you can try other countries in the EU (I have bought quite a few out-of-print Wii games from other EU countries). For controllers, you can try the whole world, since the standard controllers aren't region-locked.

The whole world is too risky because of import duty. A 1st party controller is never going to be below the £15 threshold.
