It's definitely tough to just pick 5(and that's why mine technically has 6!)...and I think if I was asked this question on a different day there might be 1 or 2 different games in there...
1. Advance Wars/Advance Wars 2(hard to separate them for me)
2. Super Mario 64
3. Banjo-Kazooie
4. Fire Emblem: Awakening
5. Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
I had a tough time picking the 5th spot, could have gone to a bunch of different games, but felt I needed to include my favorite Zelda game
1. Zelda: Majora's Mask
2. Paper Mario
3. Fire Emblem: Awakening
4: Mario Kart 8
5: Xenoblade Chronicles
Majora's Mask is definitely my number one, the others are in any order. These are just off of the top of my head, and I'd probably swap some out for other games depending on how I'm feeling, but these five have definitely stuck with me after playing them for different reasons.
1. Earthbound
2. Luigi's Mansion 1/2
3. Super Mario Sunshine
4. Phoenix Wright Trials and Tribulations
5. Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
These are all games that, despite having issues, are all games that are important to me. Not only are they fun, but they were ones that really hit me. They're games that I love because of how they make me feel. Sometimes I laughed, sometimes I cried. In the end though, these are games that, in the end, made me cry tears of sadness or frustration, but of a deep sense of joy.
Hmm, seems like Twilight Princess has gotten more popular. Can someone say Zelda Cycle?
Well, I don't know about the others, but I got that game Day 1 and loved it ever since
I tend to define the cycle as the change in the overall vocalized opinion of the fanbase. So the cycle could exist without a soul changing their opinion.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

Yeah, I think that's what the cycle actually is, but most people assume it means the fan's taste are actually changing. The biggest part of the cyle in my opinion is fair-weather haters who belittle each new game rabidly and vocally on the internet (even "journalists" on the internet) and then move on when there's something better to hate. Then all that's left are the fans who always loved it.
I'm glad was bored enough to start this thread! Thanks to all of you for giving me ideas of what to play next!
With regards to the 3D Zelda games, in their time they revolutionized the next huge trend in gaming. Open exploration in a dynamic 3D world and an intuitive combat system which would later be fully realized in TP, with more natural physics and weight.
Now here we are nearly twenty years after the first 3D Zelda title and I honestly can't remember being more excited for ANY game than I am for ZWU, I just pray that we don't get "TP'd" like we did 10 years ago... Pardon the pun, lol
1) Super Mario Galaxy
2) Fire Emblem: Awakening
3) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
4) Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (minus that stupid fetch-quest towards the end. Screw that.)
5) Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Honestly, I could make a top 30 list. The amount of incredibly high quality games Nintendo has put out is absurd.
Best thread ever

@Moomoo - What fetchquest? I mean, I remember reading about this "absurd fetch quest" from reviewers when the game came out, and I steeled myself expecting at some point for the whole game to stop and make me go out and hunt a bunch of stuff I couldn't find beforehand...but that never happened. I'm on the final confrontation, too, I just got distracted at the worst possible opportunity.
Unless you're talking about the power units for the deralict ship, but you can get those as you go whenever you want. There's no carrying limit, the ship appears early on, and you can leave and come back if you need to, or do it all in one shot. It's really not that bad - they're usually in obvious places pretty much begging for you to come back for them, such as large, unexplored portions of the map where there are other items to obtain. So long as you explore frequently (and it's Metroid, why wouldn't you?), it's far from the worst scavenger hunt out there.
1. DKC 2 Diddy Kong's Quest
2.Paper Mario
3.Super Mario World
4. Diddy Kong Racing
5. MK8
Goldeneye is not in my top 5, but I'm gonna throw a lil love towards it anyway.
Super Mario Galaxy is possibly the closest Nintendo has come to perfection.
Dunno, OoT and Metroid Prime Trilogy are at least as good as SMG (I would say the Oracle games too, but they were developed by Capcom).
That's where the "possibly" comes in. I haven't played Metroid Prime Trilogy, but IMO, OoT has a big flaw in terms of it's time mechanic's implementation. It's kind of clunky if you ask me.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
5. Metroid Prime Trilogy (Prime 2>Prime 1>Prime 3)
4. Super Mario Galaxy
3. The Legend of Zelda: OoT/LttP/TP
2. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
1. Xenoblade Chronicles
