@mrmicawber: i'm a print journalism major and creative writing minor in college and plan to go for a masters in creative writing after i graduate, so i read a good bit of classic literature, beyond in-class assignments, because i enjoy it. but i can tell you, i can't stand dickens. the way he writes is simply repulsive to me. and it's not his language... i understand it, and get teased alot by people saying i tend to speak in the same sort of way with the same sort of uber old-school words. but reading his prose is like taking a cheese grater to my eyes. sorry.

Despite being a huge Super Nintendo RPG fan, I hate Earthbound.

Plain old gamer :)

*I tend to hum to the in-game music.
*In Action-Adventure games (Sonic Adventure, OoT, etc.), I tend to run around like an idiot instead of actually doing anything.

-I don't like RPGs. The only RPG I enjoyed was kingdom hearts, even though Its not as great as people think it is (IMO.) And I don't see what the big deal is with Pokemon.
-I don't like games where you die quickly.
-Sega and the Sonic series are extremely overrated to me. Even back in the Genesis days.

Does are the only ones I can think of right now.

Why can't Metroid crawl?

that's all right -- everyone who was here back while you were still going through your super-argumentative fits will always know you as Eugene, no matter how many usernames you go through. :3

as for gaming quirks... I am not a Metroid fan. I've dabbled in them, but i have never actually played a Metroid game to completion. 's just never been my cup of tea.

also, i prefer to watch other people play FPS games, even though I'm perfectly capable of playing them myself. it's more cinematic if I'm not at the helm, y'know?

I have to agree,I hate earthbound. I'm not flaming it either because i love the style so so so much. It's the battle system that i hate, which turns me off totally. I do understand the hype,it's fun for me to play through, but ultimately the battle system has to be fun for me personally.

Same here, I wish I liked the same stuff my fellow students tend to read, but I just can't stand it. Though to clarify an earlier post, no one on this board, myself included, called Dickens trash. Nothing wrong with liking him. Some things just get blown out of proportion. Oh well.

As for my gaming quirks, probably my least favorite genre is the RPG, and my two favorite games are RPGs (Earthbound and Mother 3). I suppose that passes for quirky. I also went through a phase where I stopped buying games and just watched speed runs. It was pretty enjoyable, actually, and may be what I do next generation depending on where I'm at then, life-wise.

2. Pretty much hate the RPG genre especially Final Fantasy (to sissy) - Liked Chrono Triiger, Chrono Cross, Paper Mario GC, Quest 64 (very random!), Sentinel Worlds Future Magic (very old skool!) and - that might be it. Liked the battle system in the DS MarioRPG's but the blah platforming, horendous charachters (suitcase guy), and moronic story killed those game to me...

It sounds more to me that you hate JRPGs, rather than RPGs in general. Have you played any good, well-respected WRPGs? If not, give it a chance. They're very different.

I am capable of liking all sorts of games without saying it's not my thing EXCEPT for the rhythm genre (only scrolling notes though, as I like games like EBA).

I sometimes get a bit TOO upset at Nintendo bashers.

I have a personal peeve when someone names themselves after a character be it from vid game, comic book, cartoon show, whatever.

I think Madworld is a complete joke of a game and deserved it's low sales (durr...our game is cool cause it has violence, cussing and sex. Consistancy? What's that?)

NSMB is overrated (slightly)

I can't stand indie dev crybabies (your in a business, act more professional).

My favorite DS game is Ninja Gaiden.

My favorite game company aside from Nintendo is Capcom.

Wayforward is one of my favorite western developers despite never playing Shantae.

My favorite video game franchise is Zelda. My favorite Zelda is the original although I didn't play it until long after I played ALttP and OoT. I feel Phantom Hourglass is the worst thing to happen to the series since those CD-i games. It is the 1st Zelda game I've played that felt truly broken.

I feel that the Wi-fi Facebook integration and Flipnote Studio are enough of a reason to own a DSi. Everything else is just a bonus.

The DSiware I'm looking forward to the most is myNotebook.

Despite being a huge Zelda fan as mentioned, I feel Twilight Princess is overrated. Meanwhile, Majora's Mask is underrated. If your the type of player that wants Nintendo to create more "hardcore" games, you shouldn't complain that MM was too frustrating.

Despite being an aspiring writer and theatre major. I don't like games with a heavy emphasis on storytelling. Save that stuff for books and movies.

1. I've never played any Mario game aside from the original Donkey Kong. Does that even count? Oh, and Kart.
2. I love games paced by the player, not forced scrolling. Like RE4, Okami, etc. I can walk around for hours obsessing over the details in games like these.
3. While Wii Sports is probably the least used disc in my game collection, I have a 2310 (not a typo) skill level in Tennis.
4. I think sound effects, soundtrack, and general polish combined contribute more to a game's quality than do its graphics, which are still vital, don't get me wrong.
5. I won't finish games I like but which I don't want to end. Conduit, for instance, I'm at the last scene. RE4 on the other hand, which I like as much as (ok, more), I finished just so I could unlock the minigames and carry over my arsenal.
6. There's a certain position on my couch which is optimized for surround sound convergence, and this is where I prefer (read "insist") to sit when playing.
7... maybe more later, if I'm interested.

StarBoy91

I happen to feel Super Mario Land 1, Breath of Fire 2, Detana! TwinBee, Axelay (a tiny bit), Super Castlevania IV, Kirby Canvas Curse, Mortal Kombat (every game in the series), Streets of Rage 1 (a lot), Streets of Rage 2 (a tad bit), Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Ghouls'n Ghosts (the original if only a little) are quite overrated games.
To each his own [hope everyone feels the same way. Not about the games, but the motto I came up with]!

You could have just stopped right there. What's wrong with you? Some sort of childhood trauma involving evil mushrooms and turtles?

I could understand not liking them, but a frequent poster on a Nintendo forum never even playing a game in Nintendo's most popular series?

Whenever I play a new game, the first place I visit is the options screen.

I rarely read the instruction book all the way through (before playing a game).

I always set the difficulty to easiest for my first playthrough (except when on Little King's Story where I set it to hard and promptly died).

Sometimes I plug in my N64 and a copy of Rogue Squadron and listen to the music (even if I'll turn it off 10 minutes later.

The only thing that bothered me about the writing was just that nearly every chapter ends with a major cliffhanger. I'm sure this is because back then a lot of his books were written in newspaper "episodes" and were meant to hype up the next installment.

No lie, Adam. As a kid, the only cartridge systems I had were Atari and then Sega systems. Then I played mostly PC-based games through the mid-to-late 90s. Didn't game much at all for the past 8 years or so, then got a Wii last year and as they say, the rest is history. Never had a chance really 'til last year to get in front of a Mario title, and there were so darn many of them that I felt like it wasn't worth the effort to catch up. I got nothin' against the dude, but I will admit I feel at a loss in Kart that I have no idea who any of these charatcers are or what these items represent in the big picture.

@Vendetta: I reckon you should start with Super Mario Galaxy, and work your way backwards, y'know, just to be different. And more importantly, it's an amazing game that you MUST play!
well not MUST, but you know what I mean

Rawr!

jpfan1989

1 all my games HAVE to be in Alphabetical order
2 unused consoles/controllers/equiptment MUST be kept NEATLY in a special Droor placed in a Predetermined order, if anything is out of place the whole droor is emptied and placement must start all over from the beginning,
3 Droor must be reordered every 2 months
4 when not in use Wiimotes must be lined up neatly facing from north to south
5 I then to lean to the right when playing games
6 I bought my Classic Controller specifically for Brawl and was disappointed to learn i couldn't use the D pad for moving the Character even so I still prefer using the Classic controller
7 I'm any Mario Kart I practice on all the Hardest tracks to make them my best
8 When Playing with Friends in Mario Kart Wii I will purposely choose a mirror mode track to confuse them... usually Rainbow Road.
9 I any Smash Brothers Game I make it a priority to NEVER loose to a computer. I don't mind loosing to a human player, if they manage beat me they deserve the Win.
10 During Smash in a match with more than 2 people I make it priority to never be the first to Die
11 I am 20 and still play pokemon, but i don't care for any of the new ones
12 I've Never finished an FF game
13 I've Never played Banjo Kazooie and I think the series is Overrated
14 I don't like Sony because their machines break to easily
15 all my N64 games where 1st party. 3 Mario, 2 Pokemon, 1 Zelda
16 I bought Tales of Symphonia just because I partaking as a voice actor for a friends Flash cartoon based on the game... incidentally the project was later canceled
