Forbes has an article about Konami and their troubles. The most troubling aspect is today Konami delisted themselves from the NYSE which should be troubling for investors in Japan. http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2015/04/26/konami-pullin... It seems to be stemming from the Silent Hill disaster with a movie director/producer.
You know, it's good that I only care about like... 1 1/2 of Konami's IP or I'd be very sad lately.
Jesus Christ...y'know, I've complained about Capcom's ridiculous behavior but Capcom has easily been topped at this point. Capcom at least still makes games that people like and more than 2 franchises that have made any money anymore. But this is such a train wreck to watch. I'm assuming the people in charge are just some old people that want to burn everything they've made to the ground, because this makes NO sense.
They should just auction off their IPs. Their dedicated gaming division seems to be winding down, even with the overall health of the company being fine. Give certain companies "first bid" privilege on certain properties (eg, Nintendo for Castlevania and Sony for Metal Gear). If they really want to move the company in a different direction, that would at least earn them a lot of capital in a short amount of time.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

I'd rather that Nintendo gets Metal Gear because then Snake would be in Smash.
I don't really care about Metal Gear, so I couldn't care less. The only IP I've been a big fan of is Bomberman, but since he hasn't got a decent game in the last decade, there won't be a huge loss on that side either.
Look at the corporate structure. They are a health company now (Games and Arcade machines as minor things - Gambling a bit bigger).
That's not true. "Digital entertainment" is their biggest division now, still very much ahead of "Health & Fitness", with the "Gaming & Systems" division still over twice as profitable as their pachinko business.

That is a bad article. (At a minimum it should explain the subsidiaries that they have not mentioned and under which sections they are counted or why they were ignored).
Even presuming it is right the rest of the stuff together is more important than digital entertainment.
It is their own fault games journalism is considered a joke because they don't do any journalism.
“30fps Is Not a Good Artistic Decision, It's a Failure”
Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.
Just FYI: You can look at Konami's financial stuff here. I'm not done skimming through them, but it seems the business overview sections of each financial statement breaks down the numbers by subsidary, so if you really want to know how well they're doing, you can see for yourself.
