Everything seems to be going to 3D which to me seems like although it may be cool it may hurt our wallets quite a bit. I'm also not a fan of the whole wear glasses to view content idea and think unless other companies get their hands on nintendo's apparent 3D without glasses thing that this trend will be a trend that I don't really like all that much at the moment although I will most likely end up following it to play killzone 3 and other titles. I just don't think this 3D everything fad is as spectacular as it's projected to be... haha your guys opinions?

I don't really like the overusage. Don't get me wrong, I love the 3DS has the ability for it, but it just doens't do anything for me in movies.

I've been avoiding going to films for the last 10+ years because I'm tired of the 2D medium, and I want something new. I don't think 3D is a fad any more than going from black and white to colour was a fad. 3D hasn't been successful thus far, but ultimately it has to become the standard.

Wow. So do you not watch TV or play games either?

Answer to question: I dislike 3D and will probably play the 3DS with it turned off after seeing what it looks like.

3D is the future. It doesn't necessarily mean bringing new things on graphics only, but also new things on gameplay.

Considering that not everyone is able to see 3D without getting an intense headache, I sure hope it's not the future. 3DS is ideal with its slider option, but I sure hope we always have the option in the cinema, if 3D stays at all.

I have three issues with 3D being proclaimed as the "future" of entertainment:
(1) So far, I've never been able to see a 3D effect that worked for me.
(2) I'm cheap, and not keen on paying for extra effects that don't benefit me. Heck, I'm not keen on paying extra for HD yet.
(3) Potential health issues are still an unknown for prolonged use and exposure. Current 3D tech isn't recommended for young viewers.

Also, talk about the move towards 3D being as big as the change from monochrome to color is ridiculous at this point in time. The technology for 3D is still nothing more than simple visual trickery that doesn't work for all people... and until that is replaced with some way to truly record and display fully 3D imagery, it will remain nothing more than a gimmick. (Granted, gimmicks can be a lot of fun!)

Beware people suggesting otherwise: they probably want to sell you something.

I've got less interest in 3D than HD - if 3D is the future of gaming then I guess I'm done keeping up with gaming trends (not that I've been that great at it). It's cool because I'd rather save money to take holidays anyway.

I want to be able to play all my videogames, watch all my TV, and see all my films in full 3D.
But I want the real world to be completely 2D.

Now that we have more sophisticated 3d technology, most major movies are in 3D. It makes the movies look real nice if done well. But is not necessary. I dont like the idea of having to wear glassess to watch TV though, and bringing 3D home can be expensive. I think the 3DS is a step in the right direction of making as normal as the screen itself with virtually no need to put monetary effort or risk discomfort (glasses) for the experience.

Which reminds me, I once went to Disney California Adventure (right next to Disneyland) during a family reunion, and they had two 3D movies that had absolutely outstanding effect. It was amazing considering how well the 3D worked in comparison to most movies.

Darn you kids and all your newfangality... back in my day, the world was not only flat, it was in black and white! And to see anything you had to walk both ways up a hill!

Now get offa my 3D lawn! Bleh!

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Well EVERYTHING is technically 3d if we look around us in the real world but seriously I echo vonseux how companies will just start focusing on 3D too much and forget about quality content and i also echo gabegreens that geez i do not want to have to wear 3D glasses inside my own house (i mean.....my....parents....house lol) to watch television haha. The problem is when gimmicks take flight and then we get so high up in the air with them that we're stuck with them and it hurts more in this case since it is such expensive technology we're dealing with.

EDIT @Phoenix lol i guess we can be happy we evolved from that type of lifestyle haha

It depends on how often they impliment stupid 3D gimicks the way they implimented stupid Touch Screen gimmicks with the DS, and how they still impliment stupid motion gimmicks on the Wii. If it's more like the DS, and after a few years most of my games will be tradition games with small gimmicky 3D elements that I can easily turn off/ignore, then it'll continue the tradition of being great console and won't be a complete waste of my money. If it's more like the Wii, and I can't get away from those stupid gimmicks, then after a few months it'll just sit around and collect dust until I sell it on eBay.

My bad, I thought y'all was talking about the 3DS for some reason. I think 3D sucks, period. It's just a stupid fad from the 70's that came back into style for some weird reason, and in a few short years, everyone will have moved on.

3D comes and goes every 25 years or so. I remember between 1983-84 it was the same thing, with these same arguments. The only way it will stick around is to do what nintendo did, and find a way to make it work without glasses. The glasses is what kills it every time.

Since when did 3D glasses suddenly become uncool? Did Nintendo just suddenly convince everyone of this, or is this some secret no one has told me? I remember in the 80's being all excited when my big brother brought me home a pair from the movies, and I remember them being sought-after cereal-box prizes and people thinking Rad Racer was cool because it came with them. I wouldn't mind if 3D were done as a big ugly set of virtual reality glasses if what I see actually looks good. Honestly, I always envisioned that 3D would be done holographically when it became standard, so it's kind of surprising how things are actually happening.

lol...nintendo didnt have to tell me that 3D glasses werent cool, i never thought they were to begin with. Seriously you think you would prefer to watch EVERY show in your own house (not the theatres occassionally) in 3D with glasses on...lol man your world will be dark around you. I like to kno the sun is outside sometimes lol glasses all the time to watch things for me is not the "Bizzznneesss!" STEP YOUR GAME UP! Modern Legend. No 3D"

@glasses: I have bad vision, thus forcing me to wear glasses. I choose contacts because I don't want to wear glasses because glasses suck. I don't want to have to wear glasses to watch a movie/play a game. Not the fact that they are stupid looking, which they (sometimes) are not, but they are really uncomfortable for me and my rather large head. They dig into my nose and I get sweaty sometimes cause fogging. If having to use glasses to see 3D, count me out.

@3D: It's just a fad, again.

Simulating 3D on a 2D display is lame. Come back to me when you're projecting 3D images in the centre of the room, though honestly by that point I cannot see that "movies" will be a terribly relevant form of visual entertainment.
