Wouldn't it be neat if a Xenoblade game or similar open ended RPG came out on 3DS? I've thought about this alot. It seems there are no developers Thinking of making a massive Open ended RPG for 3DS. I would absolutely flip out. So far the only one of this type is Zelda Ocarina of Time. The system until recently has been RPG poor. I appreciate the new RPG's we got but would like to see a Huge undertaking like a Xenoblade type of game on 3DS. Maybe the system isn't capable I don't know. How do the rest of you guys feel?

Totally agree, and it looks like Japan does have games that fit this bill such as Fantasy Life, Bravely Default, etc. DQ VII is on the horizon for Japan as well, and Considering we are getting nearly every DQ release in the West as well, I am sure we will get that game.
I have a feeling we will be getting more RPGs... at least I hope so ^__^

Xenoblade 2 is coming to the Wii U.
The 3DS can't handle that.

So therefore, I care not.

(kidding by the way, I'd love to see an open world game on 3DS, just not Xenoblade. That deserves to be on consoles)

Oh yeah we are going to get some RPG's soon. But none of them are of the Xenoblade Open ended world type of play with real time battles. I am really looking forward to Fantasy Life should be announced

Well Shin Megami Tensei 4 is coming out for the 3DS along with a remake of Dragon Quest VII. For me those two games (along with Soul Hackers remake) instantly upgrade the 3DS's RPG quality exponentially. Plus Project X Zone, the new Pokemon games, and two Monster Hunter games are coming this year.

I honestly don't know if the 3DS could handle a game with the sheer scope of something like Xenoblade. The draw distance and screen size needed to show it all would not make the 3DS a good fit for that type of game, in my opinion. Then there's the amount of resources needed to make it versus the amount of people potentially buying it. I think it'd be better for devs to focus on other aspects more suited to the system's strengths rather than shoe-horn something better suited for a console.

Best thread ever

The 3DS is supposed to be more powerful then the Wii, and game carts can hold up to 4 gigs.

If you meant something like poor sales or lack of developer will, I can't argue there.

while i'd probably play the hell out of something like this, i've found that i prefer 'open' sorts of games to be playable on larger screens. it's kinda like Okami vs. Okamiden; the latter was a great game, but the smaller screen size kinda helped to hem the experience in... i almost felt claustrophobic, if that makes any sense. I think i'd probably have the same cooped-up feeling about a Xenoblade title as I did about Okamiden after having played through the original on the Wii.

@theblackdragon on the 3DS, and especially on the 3DS XL, i tend not to get that claustrophobic feeling that the OG DS had.

Fact is, OoT is a game that is all about scope and it was made to work nicely on the 3DS so I think games could more Okami than Okamiden on the 3DS.

I meant more like what Moomoo said. Some games just work better as a console game than as a portable game, you know?

@pashaveliki: OoT on 3DS gave me the same feeling. idk what it is, but open-world-ish games i've already had experience with on a home console (and large TV) having sequels, remakes, or side-games for handhelds, it just makes me want to stretch out and see everything larger for some reason.

a completely original game, that would probably be much easier for me to get used to, i think.

No. Because I would force myself to buy it again instead of games I don't own.

I only you had some kind of self control, huh?
I find it funny that people get furious about remakes and yet they buy them anyway - as if they expect something to change while they're doing so.

The 3DS wouldn't be able to handle Xenoblade. But would I like an original open world RPG on the handheld. However, I can see a Xenoblade port/remake happening on the next Nintendo handheld, and I would probably buy it in a heartbeat.

The 3DS can take anything on the Wii, and certain titles ported for tests ran better on the 3DS. To be honest, when I saw the Xenoblade trailer on the eshop for the first time I thought it was a 3DS game.

Yeah. It's better in every respect. Anyways, I have two words if anyone ports Xenoblade to 3DS: Hell. Yeah.

Most games look worse on 3DS than their predecessors on Wii and GameCube.

See Resident Evil: Revelations & RE4, and Paper Mario: Sticker Star & SPM. Major differences. Perhaps Monster Hunter is an exception, but while I never played the Wii one, the environments look bigger and I can tell that there's better lighting in the 3DS one.
