It's not THAT big of a deal. It's not like having to input a code for each individual player, like in the previous two Mario Karts. Instead, everyone who is interested in joining a specific community can enter the code and wait for others to do the same. I'm looking forward to the rumored Nintendo Life Community and racing with everyone over the weekend. This will be a much better alternative to organizing a MK race on the computer then playing the game, since this is in-game. Can't wait.
They're the codes you need to join a clan. Like one of the mods make the nintendolife community and they post the code in the site for tournaments and game nights.
But each player will have to enter the code to join the clan, right?
yep
So it's just like a friend code then. Again, Nintendo said we'd only have 1 friend code per 3DS system. Having to input another 14-digit code just to enter a clan is ridiculous. Can't Nintendo do it the easy way with friend invites?
The community code is for events. It's really only useful for tournaments. But it makes organizing them much easier. Also, I thought that MK7 had the option to search for a player on a friends list and try to join their game?
It is not strictly for events. You can have a permanent group through the community feature, it sounds like. It would be a useful way to race with people without having to add tons of friend codes. For instance, if you don't feel like adding a million people on NL just to race with them, add one group code and whenever you want to race, see whoever in that group is on. That's how I gathered it works.
Bit of a shame we have to type out a friend code to simply add them, but I'm no programmer, and in the long run it doesn't make a heck of a difference.
It's just 14 characters, and you only have to do it once per group. Even if you do a max of 8 groups, this will not take up more than a minute of anyone's time unless they are super uncoordinated.
have i mentioned that i really, really love the idea of being able to race from an entire pool of my friends or people i know in a given group by inputting one FC? making sure everyone else had everyone friended in order to race together was total BS D: D: D:
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
You can play random people as well. I think there is a feature that let's you add the people you've raced to your friends list (You have to add a code obviously)
I want a spectator mode so we can watch some super official intense race against like the two best clans or something.
Currently playing: 3DS: KI: Uprising Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles "Heh, heh... Thanks... You're nice. Umm... Can I ask... a question? Your friends... What kind of... people are they? I wonder... Do these people... think of you...as a friend?"
What I gathered from Nintendo Power is that it's a code that you share on social networks. It's like a password you don't get to make up yourself. There is no "community list" so the only limit is the amount of people you share the code with.

Yeah, its not like Friend Codes at all. Nintendo didn't lie either. Think about it: Groups are unlimited. Our friend's list are not. Would it kill you to enter one 14 digit code to enter a group to play with loads of other people? Not like you have to add them individually. The code is there so you can directly access the said group. It works and it's practical. Because communities are bound to be similar in name and that'd be a mess to look through.
