@wiggler welcome to the club. . When Mario kart 7 revealed the new characters, I was all "wiggler! Yes!" and my friends were like "oh MAH GAWD Mario is made of metal! Mind, blown!" Idk why no one likes him.

Haha thanks! A lot of people on the internet really hate wiggler in the game for some reason, but to me he is one of the best additions along with Shy Guy(if you want to count him as a new character).

IMO, Mario Kart is too luck-based for anyone to definitively say they're 'good' at it. You can memorize each and every course, mix up your racer and kart to max out your stats, take all the shortcuts available to you, nail every ramp boost and opportunity to slide and still get knocked out by a random item or a blue shell (the ultimate equalizer). VR isn't even an accurate gauge whether one is 'good' at MK7 or not, lol.

@TBD, True, but you can still be good at it. Sometimes everything will go against you during a race and you'll get last place, but that doesn't mean you're bad either. The best players will usually end up in the top 3, even with all the randomness.

@SamuraiShyGuy: That also entirely depends on what kind of group you're racing with. You can be the top of a pack of noobs easy, but then you get in a race with much more experienced players and constantly wind up 7th or 8th place. it doesn't mean you're 'bad', no, but it doesn't automatically make you 'good' either.

@theblackdragon I think both sides of this arguement can agree that, regardless of your luck and skill, SNES rainbow road is unkind to you.

My VR is 24,000k, but VR doesn't mean anything.
I have mostly played in Time Trials and communities. I have held some World Records in the first months of Mario Kart 7.

Wiggler, if you want I can send you a list with the Top 10 times for every track. Times on YouTube are only a portion of all the times out there.

VR is 3300, I think I'm alright but lately I've been playing like shit.

Of course you can be good at it. Like in MKW, there were people who could manipulate the items to predict when they'd get Mushrooms, and thus, dodge Blue Shells in first. MK is 50% luck, 50% skill. Half the skill is in using items and strategy, and the other half is memorization, being able to perform shortcuts well, miniturbos, etcetera. A skilled player will still win most races if he doesn't get terrible luck. It also depends on what room you're in, and what players are in it. In the Let's Play 50cc, for instance, I had a dozen win 1st streak across 3 rooms almost three quarters of a lap ahead of 2nd each time. Move to Banana's Only and I'm only 1st 30-40% of the time at most in a good room. I find the higher speeds are harder to cope with luck wise; items are just as frequent, but their knockback is far more damaging due to the speed. Getting hit and spun out once probably won't affect a 50cc race much, but in a 150cc race? 5-6 people will pass you easily in that time.

Precisely my point, thank you TBD. You can do everything perfectly, but if that one stray item hits you then you're done for. Against CPU players you will always win because they're generally idiots, but players online are such random sprayers...

Items automatically make Mario Kart also based on luck, but strats, karts and techniques also matter a lot. Matchups between players of different skill demonstrate it.

depends on the day, my friend — i've had great days with SNES RR, and then some days i just get shoved off the track time and time again. it's a great track regardless :3

@mieufire It's because it's so basic, that it's difficult. It doesnt have railings, and when you get hit by any item or use any sort of mushroom, odds are that you'll be sent right off the track. The chaos is the best part though.
