Gamestop never accepts anything damaged or broken as far as I know. Also, if the bar code on the back is missing or rubbed off, they will not accept it.

That doesnt surprise me with Gamestop. My advise is talk to the manager and see what he says if he says its a no go than its a no go. Did you tell them when you went in the other day that that you wanted to apply the broken DS to the coupon cause it sounds to me like you are trying to combine two offers there which might negate one another.

Maybe not at your Gamestop, but last month I traded my DSi w/o the bar code on the back for $50 in store credit.

Exactly.

You can send it to nintendo and get a new bar code?....I think. Also if you keep the box, it also has the code.

Actually I never tried to trade my old DS in to Gamestop. My brother tried his at Gamecrazy though when it was still around, and they said no one would take a DS without the code on the back, but they were much more strict than Gamestop when it came to the condition of trade-ins. (I miss that store...)

There's a play-N-Trade like right around my house.

Wait when is Gamestop not a disappointment? Everything they do is fail. Glad I have a nice little retro store near me.

I have a retro game store in town.... but it's like 20-30 minutes away.

That doesn't sound like a change of policy to me. Yes, they can take broken systems with a refurb fee, but those "extra credit" deals ALWAYS require the system be fully functional. More likely, it was a failure of communication/comprehension. Either you didn't make it clear when asking if they could take the broken one that it was for that deal, or the employee was too stupid to catch that part. Sadly, smart employees don't last at GameStop because of how the company treats their employees (spoken as a former employee myself).

Slackers is way better than Gamestop, and they carry games for pretty much every system ever made.

The last time I went in to my local Gamestop they were charging more for a certain used games then Walmart was charging to get them new... I haven't been back.

there was once a Play-n-Trade in my town, but it closed down due to having an incompetent owner that was 10 times worse than any Gamestop employee

I for one. love GameStop (and not just because they're the only place to buy games within 15 miles of my house) I find many used, great condition, cheap games. Just the other day I picked up a copy of Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for only $9, along with the case, manual and Club Nintendo slip. Although when I bought Advance Wars: Dual Strike used, the cartridge was bitten, and the metal part was tarnished. You can probably guess it didn't work. I took it back and got a refund, but 4 days later, I saw the exact same cartridge on sale again

But you love Gamestop.

Anyway, I've never really had a problem with Gamestop. I have a Powerup Rewards Card, and I come in, buy my new $40 games I have to buy, and leave. I recently got a 3DS cleaning kit for free using Powerup Points and I still have points left over for $10 my next purchase. n_n The trade-in offers are ridiculous, but I did manage to trade in my Wii for $100 during a special deal that was going on.
