I truly don't understand what's not to like about Gamestop. It's as good a store as any to be loyal to since everyone has similar prices and similar deals. Especially if you're just trying to decide where to preorder a new game - everyone's price will be the same and you get more loyalty points to pick up free shirts or whatever online. For most of the really big releases they'll do a good trade in deal so you can get more money out of games you don't want anymore and put them towards the new hot one. Not to mention you can buy a used game and take it back within a week after playing it for a full refund. I really don't know what's not to like, unless an employee made fun of you or you think you were wronged for not checking everyone's used prices before buying something.

I'd say the quality of your Gamestop experience depends on if there's employees that actually care or not. Most of the ones at mine are really nice and even try to have a little small talk (even the ones I don't know from school ). If there's employees that do nothing but stare at the counter the entire time while you're talking to them, chances are you're not gonna be that satisfied. (Although, I do hate how "plug everything special we have" is in their job description.)

I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am.

Everytime I've left a Gamestop, I've felt ripped off, so they lost my business. Whether it's selling used games for higher than thte same game new somewhere else, giving you pocket change for your trade-ins, or selling open boxes as new games, I'm done with their ludicrous shenanigans.

You guys must have some odd stores.
I've never had a problem. Trading games in is always a ripoff no matter where you go, you'd be better using like, craigslist or something. All of the people there are really nice, heck I've gotten away with some M rated games (blargh, I got a year left)
Usually if you're polite, and don't talk like you know everything, and know what it is you want beforehand, you should do well.

Thaaaaaanks for noticin' me.

i've never had any problem with any of the gamestops that i have been in, in canada. my cousin used to work at the one in my hometown. the one where i live now has great people. I guess it just depends on the people that work at the store. Although I've never traded anything in before. Just bought stuff. The only places that have great deals on used games that i've found is JJgames.com and sometimes Amazon.ca and amazon.com has great deals on used games from other stores or sellers.

It's your choice whether or not to trade-in a game. It's not like they take the game from you and then give you a miniscule amount of money. They tell you the miniscule amount of money they'll pay you, then, if you still want the money, they take the game and pay you. Also, it's your choice to buy a used game, you should know what it's worth, so it's your fault for paying them for it. And as long as the game is brand new, they can say it's new. The box can be opened.

Actually once the factory seal is broken the game is no longer new but used.

First of all, you have to demand that they tell you the price for your games beforehand so they don't screw you. Otherwise, you'll look at your receipt to see that you only got 50 cents for one of your games. Second of all, I buy new games unless I'm looking for a game not in stores anymore. Third of all, if you think it's okay to sell an opened packaged game as new, go ahead and try that on EBay. I've heard countless stories of Gamestop employees taking "new" games home to play so they can be "informed" about the game. Gamestop is just a shady company, plain and simple.

And their deals aren't so great. You want a great deal, look in the ads. I got Super Mario Galaxy 2 at ToysRUs the first week it came out and got a free 25 dollar gift card with it. That's a deal.

Personally, the only problem I've had with gamestop was when they sold me a pirated copy of warioware twisted where the tilt controls were replaced with unresponsive button controls; but I brought it back in and not only did they refund my money, but they had a legit copy shipped in from another store then gave it to me for free to apologize for selling the pirated one in te first place.

Needless to say, I am very happy with gamestop and tend to make most, if not all my purchases from there.

Actually I never tried to trade my old DS in to Gamestop. My brother tried his at Gamecrazy though when it was still around, and they said no one would take a DS without the code on the back, but they were much more strict than Gamestop when it came to the condition of trade-ins. (I miss that store...)

I miss Play-N-Trade.

I really wish there was a Play-N-Trade near me. When I was on Vacation in Florida there was a Play-N-Trade around every corner, and the store was drowning in classic games and consoles. There used to be Gamecrazy that was 2 minutes away from my house that went out of business along with all the others, and now the only store in my area is a Gamestop...in a mall...25 minutes away. AWESOME!!! That's what I get for living on a big tourist attraction.

I once got $2 trade-in credit for trading in a brand-new Nintendo game.

Unless you live in a third-world country, I do not call that a good trade deal.

This thread reminds me of my time at an independent game store, dealing with customers insisting they should be able to get $25 for a game sold on the shelf for $30. Those were fun conversations.

Funny, if you traded it in, then it wasn't brand new

Gamestop is perfectly fine. It's in the retail game business that is supposed to be ending soon. It is a business, period. You can't expect a large business to cater to every individual. I prefered Gamestop to GameCrazy before it went out of business, because GameCrazy didn't have as many games and gave off weird vibes. If it's the employees that you have a problem with, then it is not Gamestop and their product.

LOL once I went into GameStop and saw a blatantly fake copy of Mario Party Advance for sale. I mean the kind that has the game's box art for the sticker. I had my Game Boy micro on hand, with Mario Party Advance inserted, so I showed the guy the original copy and put it next to the fake one. When I did, he seemed so surprised . He removed it, of course.

But other than that, I've usually had a good experience buying new and used games from them. I remember waiting outside the store for like 15 minutes when the 3DS came out and being first to pick it up...we need more Nintendo fans where I live .
Though it sucks that they stopped selling GBA games.

I haven't had any negative experiences with Gamestop, as well. The only thing I don't approve of is their in-game content preorders. I hate missing out on in-game content because I didn't reserve my game at the right store. However, this is a gripe with all video game retailers, as Gamestop isn't the only offender.

Same. For everything. except in my case I waited outside Gamestop for about an hour and a half because I wanted to be first in line. Turns out only two other people came, and just a few minutes before they opened.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Not for me. My Gamestop just keeps em behind the counter in a ghetto cardboard box.

The one I have at the mall over here has them in glass cases. We okies value our classics, even at places like GS and Vintage stock.

The one by my house also has them in a glass case. It's in the back of the store and you can't notice it unless you're right in front of it though.
