Considering there will only be a touch controller for wii u and the other players will have to use normal wiimotes, i think the classic controller will still be around for some time.
Anyways, wasn't this debate about the 3DS?
It's more about the "mistakes" that people have been placing on Nintendo recently.

Yea exactly, but the same things seem to apply to their home consoles of late too. I know a lot of people on here are going to love whatever Nintendo throws at them, but the fact is that the Wii's controls were terrible a lot of the time compared to just using a regular controller. Them releasing this extra analog now just shows that they might now understand that their new innovative ways to play can't be the only way to play games on their systems. You might not agree but I'm not alone here in saying I hated the Wii controls except for a few games.
wow I was hoping to talk about the games, I guess were bashing nintendo again

Go to IGN and read reviews of any multiplatform Wii game, and in almost every review you will see how the Wii controls were much worse due to 'waggle' and using the pointer for camera control. Their systems not having adequet controls is a big factor as far as people wanting to buy them and developers wanting to develop for them.
Here's a thought. Maybe developers could create control schemes based on what the 3DS actually has? The gameboy only had two buttons and I don't think anybody shook their heads and muttered that they should have added more. It's not the end of the world if the 3DS only has one analog stick.

Now think of how it would've been if only the Game Boy had had two Dpads!
I can try to live without a second analog, but the big big problem is how small both screens are. Due the lack of 3DS games I try to play there my DS games, but no way, it is much much better to play these on DSi or DSiXL. They even tried miserably to camouflage it making all the upper area black to create the false sensation that the screen has a decent size when turned off.
My opinion is simply that Nintendo needs to be up to date with current basic gaming trends like online, graphics, and yes control scheme if they want to appeal to the 'hardcore' gamer. And they clearly do. Making their own unique way to control games is good, but if they aren't going to offer the standard in gaming, which has basically been the same since 2001, then they are never going to reach the broad audience they want to. Both because of the awkward control types to many people, and because the games they want won't be available on Nintendo systems. And if you don't like use of the word hardcore then I guess another way to put it is, all of the millions of gamers who DO NOT own a Nintendo console and/or handheld right now. Those people are not interested in Wii U right now either, which potentially means that system will be another Nintendo system 'core' gamers buy just to play Nintendo games, or don't buy at all.
All Nintendo has to do is give out bacons and cakes to everyone who buys a 3DS.
B**ches love bacons and cakes.

Waggle controls are terrible, I agree with that. But you honestly believe playing an FPS game with the Wii Remote is worse than dual analog? So explain to me why Sony uses the exact same pointer controls with their Move controller... Pointer controls make FPS games much easier to control, in my opinion. I tried to get used to dual analog, but I just can't aim well with that control setup. It feels too stiff and restricting.

I haven't played with the Move but from what I've seen in reviews of FPS gameses played with it they make the same mistakes that were made on the Wii early on. Basically they make games that seem to control like the original Red Steel. Bleh. ..... or maybe just the reviewers I've seen review it don't know how to change the settings from the horrible, horrible defaults.

What I love is how so many people praise the DS for it's games when it had TONS of crap kiddy games and shovelware. The App Store is no better, but the DS had some truly atrocious software.
I don't get why people complain about shovelware as much as they do especially when they're dedicated enough to go onto a forum on a site dedicated to reviewing said games to say it. Don't buy the games if you think they're crap, how hard is it? Nobody's forcing you. If you're not sure which games are good or not click on the "reviews" buttons at the top and you should get a general idea.
Stuck in the store? Really? Whip out your mobile internet thingo and go to metacritic if it's that much of a problem. If that's not possible wing it or wait until you get home! It's fairly easy to tell a crap game from a good game by the cover...... with a few exceptions

I'm talking about how people say the App Store is full of crap, when the DS had just as many terrible kiddy shovelware games. Nobody mentions the shovelware on the DS.

Everyone mentions shovelware on the DS. Have you been living under a rock?
I think the 3DS has a better lineup of games coming out for it than it gets credit for. At least for me it's about what new games will be coming to the system.

And I was ranting about how people think shovelware in general is something worth complaining about. What's your point?

I think FPS games were the ONLY games I felt like I enjoyed playing on Wii more than I did on the other systems. Obviously the novelty games like tennis and bowling were fun as well. But if I am playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance I don't want to have to swing a remote to perform basic moves. That's why I didn't even bother buying that game, and others like it. Even though I would have liked to enjoy those games on my Wii. Spiderman comes to mind as well. Those games were made well with the Wii but they required you to use motion, and that turned me off even though I usually love those games.
It's the same deal with the Wii U and 3DS. Not as bad as the Wii situation, but I don't want to have to move my 3DS around or use the touch screen for camera control. Those methods are so much worse than just having another thumbstick. It just doesn't make sense at this point for Nintendo to not offer both options. If they want to have all kinds of gamers embracing their hardware they need to offer standard control methods! That's why I say they need to make the classic controller pro the 2nd standard controller and not a basic Wii remote. Then they are truly offering everything the competition has AND the new innovative things they want people to embrace.

It is something worth complaining about when that shovelware crowds out the good games in stores.

The Wii U can use all the Wii controllers as a secondary controller, so you can still use your Classic Controller if you want.
And if Nintendo made the Classic Controller the standard controller, then it would just be another GameCube.
