i think not having the second circle pad was a mistake too. I'll wait to pass judgement on the attachment until I have it in my hands. Maybe it will make holding the 3DS more comfortable. I think the system is awesome and I want more people to just buy it already so we can get even more games. Unfortunately I think this depends in a big way on getting parents to buy it for their kids even though they just got them a DS. I also think Nintendo should pull the plug on the DSi soon.

Please stop using the term "hardcore gamers", it's a pointless label (much like the terms "kiddy" and "mature"). Nintendo systems have always been primarily marketed to children and families. The only reason Nintendo is trying to go after the "mature" crowd is because they saw what Sony has done with the PSP and Vita. Nintendo is trying to bring in both demographics, they aren't siding with one or the other.
For all intents and purposes it works though. You have casual gamers (mom and dad, and the kids), Nintendo loyalists (I didn't say fanboys lol), and hardcore gamers. To say that Nintendo systems have always been family oriented to me isn't right. Up until the Wii and DS I feel like they went after both crowds equally. With the 3DS it really doesn't seem like they know what they are doing period.
The Wii had plenty of "core" oriented Nintendo games.
Metroid Prime Trilogy Super Mario Galaxy 2 (it was challenging enough to turn away most casual gamers) Donkey Kong Country Returns Zelda: Twilight Princess Super Smash Bros. Brawl (many people consider it a party game, but it has plenty of depth and strategy)
The only truly casual games that Nintendo made for the Wii were: Wii Sports & Wii Sports Resort Wii Fit & Wii Fit Plus (not really a game, more like an exercise tool) Wii Music Wii Party Wii Play & Wii Play Motion the entire Mario Party series Big Brain Academy the entire WarioWare series
Everything else was made for the more traditional gamer.
Notice almost all of the good 'core' titles were made by Nintendo. Like I said it really is an issue of 3rd parties.
then they should have made a side scroller that didn't suck
this. I'm pretty sure I tried a demo of an Assassin's Creed DS title or something, and it sucked so hard

I think the really big issue is that with Nintendo going out of their way to make their systems revolutionary, and trying to cater to the "blue ocean", they are at the same time deterring hardcore gamers (sorry) like myself who want to be able to play great Nintendo games AND great 3rd party games all on 1 system. This is the same reason why I think Wii U will end up like the Wii if they don't offer a DuelShock or Classic Pro in the box along with that giant touchscreen controller.
It's like a chicken or the egg problem. It's a 3rd party problem, but it's a 3rd party problem because more people aren't buying it. More people need to buy it for 3rd parties to make more games, but people want 3rd parties to make games before they buy it. On a side note, Heroes of Ruin looks awesome.

But I think the main reason 3rd parties aren't making those games is because the people who will play those games want regular control schemes, good online, and good graphics capabilities. Something Nintendo might finally be realizing (I pray)
it mostly makes sense in a way, but... i cant say nintendo is truly all that bad yet. Their first party titles arent really out yet, the console is very young. let it mature more than this before being all that pessimistic. give it a full year of life! but yeah, it misses a couple of important features of last gen gaming. analog joystick is one of them, BUT its not a console killer. 4 shoulder buttons could be excellent, but its handheld, and perhaps handheld doesnt mean it should follow what home console gaming is. if youre there to play hours and hours straight, then get a home console. Handheld is there to play anywhere. in a car, in the bus, in a park, waiting in a line, wherever you are, for quick gaming. im not sure it should go into super immersive gameplay. people tend to compare it to home console gaming, which its NOT.
The DS owned by letting innovative games go by without them being overly immersive. They were commonly awesome and different gaming time. But youre damn right. 250$$$ was a lot. im crazy yeah, but i can still be pissed if they decide the launch console wasnt good enough and make changes fast. I feel like a guinea pig or something. But you know what, i use it EVERY day. it opens from the minutes i wake up, and it shuts down when i go to bed. How good is that for a game console ? i dont recall doing so with any other consoles every day, months after their launch! maybe my NES when the save game feature wasnt present
This. I absolutely love my 3DS. I play it much more than my Wii. If it wasn't for the Virtual Console games and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I would have sold my Wii months ago.
That same Assassin's Creed game is also on Apple's iOS devices.
who said everything in the App Store was a winner? lol, Apple has just as much crap cluttering their virtual shelves as everyone else :3

Why would they put a classic controller in the box if that touchscreen controller has all the buttons and analog sticks of regular controllers? The only difference between the Wii U controller and a DualShock is the screen.

parts of this paragraph give me flash backs of exactly how I felt after the E3 presentation. The big innovative controller makes me uncomfortable and nervous. Not because I don't think it can be really cool, but because I'm worried about how the rest of the world will react. I just wanted a cool sleek powerful console that wouldn't scare off developers.

What I love is how so many people praise the DS for it's games when it had TONS of crap kiddy games and shovelware. The App Store is no better, but the DS had some truly atrocious software.

Yea exactly. You might not feel this way, but myself and a lot of gamers who are used to standard controllers when playing their HD games, don't want to have to use that big thing to play games. Just like I don't want to have to move my 3DS around to change camera angles, I'd rather have another thumbstick. Just like how a lot of people didn't want to use motion controls in Wii games, but not to the same extent. A LOT of people want to be able to use a regular controller. Thats why any time I could use a Gamecube controller on a Wii game I did. I think it is cool that Nintendo is innovating, but if they want people to decide Wii U over the competition the LEAST they can do is put out a regular controller. Same goes for the 2nd analog on 3DS. It only hurt it, not helped.
Considering there will only be a touch controller for wii u and the other players will have to use normal wiimotes, i think the classic controller will still be around for some time.

The Wii was built around motion controls. People knew that when they bought the system. If they didn't want motion controls, they could have picked up a Classic Controller or not bought a Wii at all.
