@Sakura_Moonlight2421 :Actually pet hate is perfectly legitimate google it if you don't believe me.

Nintendolife can do whatever they like but the question is whether they should. Contrary to what your feelings on the matter are I believe it IS the duty of readers to question the decisions of staff because they aren't infallible and sometimes they make mistakes.

@theblackdragon: Which is why it's my pet hate.

There are a LOT of misconceptions out there about copyright and fan-games, fan-art etc.Including the one you just mentioned about depending on whether the creator of a fan-game is making a profit. But whatever. I've tried to inform people before and it's usually about as useful as beating my head against a brick wall.
I'll leave it at that.

ugh, fan games are my pet hate.

I'm not going to point out that unauthorized fan-games are illegal because I'm sure the people in charge of Nintendolife already know that. Right?

Australia didn't get the DOA demo either and it was just reclassified here not banned. I wonder if we're going to miss out on the demo entirely too or if it will become available at a later date.

Usagi-san commented on Feature: Nintendo’s Biggest Blunders:

@KeeperBvK: No need to get exasperated. Perhaps my reply was a little harsh, but the kind of censorship your'e talking about has been going on for years and it isn't about to go anywhere. There's not a book, website or store that won't be selective about it's content. I assure you there are articles that would not appear on Nintendo life and whether this is a good or a bad thing is really a matter of perspective.

There are times when I wish some things weren't censored myself but you cannot expect businesses to allow content just because it's something you want. It is Nintendo's prerogative to decide what is and isn't on their eshop and in the case of The Binding of Isaac they decided that it wasn't appropriate.

This "We’ve had a review sample for a few days now and have been thoroughly putting it through its paces" makes this "We don’t condone piracy at Nintendo Life" absolutely meaningless.

@Bass_X0: Just looked up the the Japanese version and US version on youtube... Wow. They changed more than the cutscenes it looks like complete enemies were removed and enemy sprites changed significantly. It has been seriously de-japanified, except for the protagonist who remains a ninja.

Usagi-san commented on Review: 3DS Circle Pad Pro:

I hate how every time this CPP comes up somebody is soooo certain that there's going to be a redesign with a second stick in the future. Last time I checked this was an unfounded rumour.

To be honest the review could have done without without slipping into rumours and I groaned when it was mentioned. Any article that says they're pretty sure Nintendo is going to add a second circle pad better be able to back up what they're saying with strong evidence.

Were the controls on the original game more responsive? I thought part of the challenge of this game was learning to control the character effectively without timing a jump wrong and falling to your doom and all that.

Usagi-san commented on Round Table: Looking Ahead to Nintendo in 2012:

Why do people insist the 3ds needs another anologue stick? I really don't see it. Must be a FPS player thing.

I just hope they don't do a redesign and make games that are "dual anologue stick control only". That would have me seriously peeved if it was a game I was interested in.

Usagi-san commented on Turn Your Retro Cartridges Into ROMS, Legally:

@Muzer: Your example is poor. Nintendo by law has the right to control how their IP is copied and distributed whereas nobody has the right to tell you to kill yourself (unless you're a samurai in fuedal japan).

Copyright law seems less moronic when you're working in a creative field and need to protect your work. If you're an artist it prevents people from using your artwork without permission which when stolen can mean a real loss of income if you're in the business of creating artwork commercially.

Usagi-san commented on Millions of Wii Games Pirated in 2011:

@nmhbm: "Beside the obvious fact that 1 pirated copy is not equal to 1 less copy sold (because it was not stolen, it was COPIED), "

Actually it is equal to 1 less copy sold. If someone interested in the product doesn't buy the genuine thing but downloads the rom instead that is one sale lost. The fact that is was copied is irrelevent.

As an example, If a customer service person keeps alienating customers they won't want to buy from that business. While the business hasn't lost anything physical what they have lost are potential sales from the purchases those customers would have made if their experiences were satisfactory.

If the aforementioned hypothetical business didn't do something to improve customer satisfaction they would lose money and be unsuccessful.

In the same way if somebody downloads a ROM Nintendo would lose the potential sale that customer would have made if the rom wasn't available. So Nintendo still loses money. Does that make any sense?

Illegal copies of games supporting other criminal activities is actually really easy to explain if you think about it. Being free they are very cheap to produce and sell so a crook could make a nice profit to support their other activities by selling them to people who don't care if they're illegit or just don't know they're not genuine.

Definately grey. This may not be legal in some countries ( Backing up games that is ).
I'm looking at the legal section of the Australian Nintendo site that states the provisions to make backup copies of computer games is not applicable to nintendo games.

Usagi-san commented on Millions of Wii Games Pirated in 2011:

@Ren: "I guarantee no one is trying to pirate Angry Birds or even things like the 'Art Style" games because they've taken steps towards new concepts at prices people can afford."
Actually you'd be wrong about that. I can almost guarantee that despite their efforts to make them affordable they are still being pirated.

I'm glad the general consensus is "pirating is bad". It's almost stomach churning when you meet someone who downloads the latest pirated games regularly and has no intention of ever paying for them. It's even worse when they think their thievery makes them "smarter" than others.

Usagi-san commented on Aonuma: "We'll See" About Zelda Voice Acting:

I don't think there's anything wrong with what they're doing at the moment really. However Dragon Quest 8 managed to use voice acting and keep the protagonist silent, the big issue I have with voice acting is that it's not always very good.
There are some japanese games where the english voice acting is so atrocious I just turn it on to Japanese so I can't tell if they're doing a bad job or not.

If it was meant to be a joke it was in really poor taste and I don't think anyone else was laughing.

Sounds more to me like "Oh great it looks like we ticked some people off and are losing support, quick! act like it was all a joke!"

Peta: It was a joke Mr. Principal. Honest, I never "meant" to hurt him (wraps arm round Nintendo's shoulder awkwardly)

Usagi-san commented on Next Zelda on 3DS a "Continuation of Past Effo...:

So if their only efforts on the Nintendo 3DS have been a 3D remake isn't it obvious he's referring to another remake and not a continuation of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks? The aforesaid games were all for the DS so if the 3DS is a successor to the DS and not another iteration isn't the 3DS a differant platform?

Usagi-san commented on Talking Point: The Growing Storm of Operation ...:

I can't understand this. There are a multitude of games that get released in Japan and are never seen elsewhere, we can't have everything we want.

I don't think this campaign is going to have any kind of an effect either. Think about it, if nintendo bowed to the pressure of fans they would set a precedent for others to do the same thing. We may think it's their job to please us but they still need to make money and not everything that sells in Japan will be successful elsewhere (Like Dragon Quest). At the end of the day Nintendo still needs to be the one in control too. They can't just localize a game because a bunch of people saw it on the internet and think they'd like to play it.

I don't understand why people think that they should be able to demand something and have it handed to them.
