Re: Review: Dead or Alive: Dimensions (3DS)

Comment on the article: "ride a drunken kung-fu master down a snowy hillside like a sledge". I think you mean sled?

I want to get this game, though I'll have to save up and wait until possible hardware issues with the 3DS are found. If only I could find a place that had demos of the game.

Actually, I never found DOA that hard. The end bosses for the games I'd played were Tengu (in 2) and Alpha (in 4). Tengu was a bit challenging, while Alpha was just cheap. But nowhere near as bad as Night Terror (in Soul Calibur III, another game I was playing at the time).

Re: Metacritic Career Ratings Pit Aonuma Versus Miyamoto

wanderlustwarrior

I looked up Alex Neuse (does not include any Bit.Trip), Yuji Naka (I don't believe it's up to his leaving SEGA yet) and Goichi Suda (up to Desperate Struggle). Not seeing an average, though. Do we need to calculate that?

Luc Bernard has an incredibly high score, but the only games that have a rating are all versions of Beyond Good and Evil.

Re: Nintendo Clarifies Stance on Garage Developers

wanderlustwarrior

Oh man, I forgot that whole "Geeks and Otaku" thing.

I would say that everyone at Nintendo should watch what they say about who they want more often and run it through PR, but much of their staff seems to be incapable of foresight.

@9: The system's already been hacked.

Re: 3DS eShop's May Launch to Ensure it Beats Wii and DS Shops

wanderlustwarrior

Still gonna be crap. That they're waiting an additional two months when there's plenty of good existing designs out there they could've been working on from the get-go tells me this isn't much of a priority (similar to how the Wii's wasn't).

And if they really wanted to be sure it was good, they could ask for consumer support or roll out similar designs for WiiWare or DSiWare to gauge feedback.

Re: Nintendo Likely to Retain Price Control in 3DS eShop

wanderlustwarrior

I don't think this is a reasonable strategy, especially considering the number of downloadable games on Nintendo's devices available on competing services.

They could (should) set an initial price and then leave sales and markdown to the developer/publisher. There's no reason why some launch era downloadable games, for example, are still at the same price.

Specific case - take World of Goo. When they had a name your own price sale of WoG, why would anyone want to navigate a terrible menu to buy it on WiiWare unless they didn't know any better. Nintendo seems to be wanting to take advantage of people's ignorance.

Re: Rumour: Using Piracy Devices May Disable Your 3DS

wanderlustwarrior

Again, if it decreases functionality of the 3DS hardware via a software update (bricking, at the higher extent), it's pretty much what's been done on the Wii, which gets worked around regularly.

If it disables the device, it might be beaten, like how the DSi doesn't play DS flashcarts, but new DSi flashcarts have been made.

As things are currently, there is at least one DSi flashcart which works around DSi update problems by disguising itself as a DSi game.

Re: Rumour: Using Piracy Devices May Disable Your 3DS

@25: I clicked this link expecting the article to be one of the many that gave the R4 brand recognition. Surprisingly, it didn't. You did, though.

There's many other devices out there, and they can do things other than pirate. Assuming there's just one and that's all that it does seems to me to be a sign of willful ignorance.

Stopping the machine from working sounds novel at first, but then you realize that's what the situation is on the Wii, and that gets beaten regularly.

Re: High Voltage Cancels Animals de la Muerte for WiiWare

wanderlustwarrior

I'm only surprised it took them until now to announce it. I'd hope it was because they tried as hard as they could to make it fit.

Ah well, wasn't for me anyway. And it wasn't because of the violence thing (Madworld and No More Heroes are two of my favorite games), it's because it just didn't look interesting to me.

Re: Gaijin Games Acquires Robotube, Bloktonik WiiWare Cancelled

wanderlustwarrior

As I said (though not clearly), I did both: I posted it in the forums after I used the contact form. For the other news I sumbitted, since I still haven't seen it posted here yet, I'll resubmit it so it doesn't get overlooked. One piece might be important down the line, while the other might be cool for people who live in England.

It's not like this is a major thing or anything, it just bugs me.

Re: Gaijin Games Acquires Robotube, Bloktonik WiiWare Cancelled

wanderlustwarrior

It was a joke, mostly at the expense of Activision and EA.

Now what's not a joke, though: am I doing something wrong in supplying news stories to Nintendo Life? I'd like to be credited for something I bring up... If this was found independently, fine, but if not, it's not the first time I've submitted something and posted it in the forums, but have been ignored.

Re: Behold This Boppin' BIT.TRIP FLUX Trailer

Hmm. One thing that looks harder is that it's lacking the colors of the bits which told you what type of pattern to expect in Beat.

Also, nice touch in saying "home" as he returns to the same point of the first level. It's been pointed out before, but it's worth repeating.

Re: First Impressions: Dead or Alive: Dimensions

wanderlustwarrior

Okay, I'm not even a huge Metroid fan, but: WHAT?! I'd tell that guy "Get it right, douche", and I try not to be vulgar.

Also, 3D dead or alive = the best thing to happen to breasts since Christina Hendricks.

But seriously, for my first real comment:
Touch screen special move input has been around since at least the two Bleach fighting games on the DS, but this system sounds incredible. Unfortunately, it might make flow-chart based fights all the more common. The people who don't need it will already be doing that kind of system, and the people who haven't done something like that may use this as a crutch.

Also, that clip is AWESOME.

Re: 3DS: Including StreetPass, SpotPass, eShop, Mii Maker & AR Cards

wanderlustwarrior

Sold.

But, to quote an earlier poster: "Am I going to get it on launch, heck no, I can wait."

I'll get it when I've thought about the purchase, have the money, the price goes down, and any problems at launch are sorted out.

It all sounds good, but I won't freak out right now. Everything sounds good at first, and there's still problems and improvements eventually. Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn't often do these improvements of the same hardware, so I hope they will this time.

Re: WiiWare Super Meat Boy Gets Canned

wanderlustwarrior

@182: It's likely some different build of the same game. These file size restrictions are nothing new, and affect different games differently.

We've known since the beginning that the file size limitation was around 40 - 42 MB (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/13/wii-ware-specifics-revealed/), which Nintendo has not denied (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/wiiware-file-size-limit-disputed). We also know that it has affected other games and companies (http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=95376) and is the 'stated, supposed reason for the cancellation of some games (Animales De La Muerta, for example). But, what you can do with up to 40MB varies widely, and can be surprising depending on the game (clearly Sonic 4 fit, as well as other detailed-looking games that don't spring to mind).

Re: WiiWare Super Meat Boy Gets Canned

wanderlustwarrior

Saw it coming. Damn shame, really. It seems to be another casualty of Nintendo's stubbornness regarding its download service (formerly weak demo service, bad publicity, terrible menu, poor service, no sales, potentially restrictive size limits), voiced with review sources, other companies, even faithfuls like Gaijin Games.

As usual, I'm disheartened by some of the comments that, for lack of a better word, are just plain bitching. Now I know I'm not one to say something holier than thou; you might as well have painted a Jolly Roger on my DS. But as an an objective observer, a lot of comments smack of entitlement issues that people (outsiders, companies, reviewers, etc.) regularly levy, and rightly at times, at the vocal gaming populous.

This post is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I no longer regularly post on this site, and when I do, it's only because something's making me unhappy to the point where I feel I need to say something that may still be respected. So, I'm going to end it with this:

I'm just going to get it on PC. Sorry for the bitching in this post.
