We recently heard word that Yuji Naka, former head honcho of Sega's Sonic Team, was working on a brand new and highly secret project for both the Nintendo Wii and 3DS systems, but so far we've seen very little in the way of screenshots and absolutely no video of the game in action at all.
Well the wait is finally over as the first official gameplay trailer for Rodea the Sky Soldier has finally surfaced and the game looks absolutely amazing. It's clear from the video that fans of Sonic the Hedgehog and NiGHTS are likely in for a treat with this rather unique title.
We'll keep you informed as new information on the game is released, but for now we'll all just have to keep our fingers crossed that the game will see an eventual release outside of Japan.

i dont really get it but it would look GREAT in 3D
I want this game NOW!
That looks cool.
Amazing I wanna know more! I suposse each version will have its unique features (I guess Wii version will use the Wiimote, and 3DS version will fancy these 3D graphics). If I had to choose one I think 3DS version would be the one... It's unavoidable, I mean, the 3DS "hype" =P
that boss fight looks sweet
Whoa... dramatic ending! I'm intrigued.
Perhaps I'll play "Let's Tap" tonight. My girlfriend and I love that game. (Wait, that sounded bad.... )
it looks like sonic and or nights
i was intrigued until i saw that it was a sonic/shooter
Shadow of the Colossus meets Sin & Punishment! Right on.
Why would Sega NOT market this in the west? They've published Prope's previous exploits, despite them being more than just rather Japanese.
I'm certain we'll see this around these parts, particularly with so little competition in the line-up so far this year.
sigh I wish more developers were this creative.
Sold. It's like NiGHTS with a Sin & Punishment meets Skies of Arcadia thing going on.
Looks so cool. Really hope it's released here!
Want!
Ugh, Japanese trailers Still looks bad@$$. But why the heck did he let her fall when he can freaking fly!?!??! Stupid person.
Looks interesting, and very much like NIGHTS.
@X: Perhaps Japanese like drama, or there was something wrong with his flying abilities.
Meh, I thought Nights was boring, but this game looks promising
Argh, and I still have to get Ivy the Kiwi!
Meh.
cool!
Male-only protagonist? Meh.
Looks like Nights if it wasn't on rails. Which is to say that it looks pretty awesome. Color me excited.
Definitely near the top of my Wii and 3DS most-wanted list now. Love the art style and the gameplay looks sufficiently different enough to warrant my interest. Show me more, Prope!
This looks good but I'm not totally sure on it. I would need a review first. Thats if it does come outside of Japan.
Is it on rails? I cannot tell. It looks pretty fantastic, though, other than the generic JPOP characters, dialog and music.
Looks really cool. I'll keep an eye on this one.
this is where my username comes into effect xD, Yuji Naka, make it!
This game looks like it was made to be played on the 3DS. It looks great so far. I can't wait to see more.
Eh I'll get the Wii version.
cool.
@ previous two:
The music is probably not the actual in-game music. Japanese games have almost a tradition of using idol pop for their trailers.
Seems pretty rad, I'll probably try it out, but I'm not sure what system I'm going to try it on. I guess controls will determine.
Dosen't that ending give you a warm feeling inside?
Holy crap that looks awesome. I really hope this is as great as it looks like it could be as this could be a true classic.
very intriguing trailer
It'll be kinda wierd to have a game that is on the Wii and on the 3DS in which the game's graphics are better on the handheld. XD
At first I couldn't quite make out exactly what the game was supposed to be, but after watching the trailer a few times I think I get it. It seems like Sonic Adventure, but only if Sonic could fly, and the homing attack can target onto any land mass.
Whatever it's supposed to be, the art style looks beautiful, and I'll definitely pick up a 3DS copy when (if) it comes Stateside.
It looks like a mixture of NiGHTS and Sin & Punishment with a bit of Shadow of the Colossus thrown in.
I like it.
Yep, this looks brilliant, with hints at some NiGHTS-style swirly gameplay it still leaves us guessing about exactly how it plays. I can defo see the Sin & Punishment and Shadow of the Colossus links here too, when you think about it that is a really exciting mix. Even though I'm getting Dead Space 2 this week, I really love bright and colourful video games, there is just something cheerful about a new IP like this, which puts a smile on a gamer's face.
My first thoughts are similar to those of @supernin10do, I know that the two games will control differently, but if they are built from the same engine it will be interesting to see how the 3DS's visuals stack up in direct comparison to the Wii game.
Some of the prettiest graphics on the Wii. I wonder what all that swishy arc movement is about? Colour me interested.
Everyone, you can see the pointer being used to control movement. Just a hint.
I don't know why people are comparing this to Sonic. I see nothing resembling a sonic game, aside from something very remotely resembling a "homing attack," which is hardly enough to make a game Sonic-like.
I was watching the video and the music was happy and the backgrounds were colorful and I was all like , but then at the end, I saw the guy smash the edge of the cliff and say "YYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGG" and I was all like D:
Anyway, is the footage from the 3DS or Wii version of the game?
Hmmm this looks good
This game looks hella fun I don't know what they are saying & I'm only guessing about the gameplay but it seems that you click on physical objects, like a plane or parts of that boss' body & it enables you're character to "swoop" higher. If that's the case then this is clearly an insta-buy, even if the "swooping" the main character is doing is on-rails this game seems to be an insta-buy. Also the islands in the sky make me wonder what LoZ: Skyward Sword's floating land is going to be like...
I am super pumped for this. Hearing that Kid Icarus was going to use the crappy touchscreen "mouselook" controls that completely derailed DS efforts like Metroid Prime Hunters completely crushed my enthusiasm for it. So Rodea, which looks just as fantastic and SHOULD control much better, has completely replaced it in my mind. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm much more looking forward to Rodea now than Icarus.

This seems to be an earlier statement on the game I just found. Apparently Suda 51 & Grasshopper (No More Heroes) are concurrently working on another project with the same company, too.
WOW Look at those graphics am I the only on who thinks they look nice?
