Re: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey Is One Of The Worst-Selling Mario Games To Date

oninowon

@AlphadreamEmpire I don't dispute how much fun can be had with M&L Browser's Inside Story (have not tried Browser Jr's Journey). The series, as a whole, is great but (for me) if you are going to put it on the 3DS, use its unique feature, which obviously is the stereoscopic 3D! Sure, the little improvements for the 3DS version is good but if Nintendo wanted me to buy it again for the 3DS, then put that feature in.

@sanderev I have to dispute that the Switch is just as portable as the 3DS. The 3DS does not need a case when on the go. It can fold thereby protecting both screens and the analog stick whether it be in the pocket or in a bag. I do have a hard shell on mine because I want to keep my original 3DS metallic blue scratch free. With the Switch you definitely need a case, preferably a hard case. You not only have to worry about the screen but also the Joycons. The place where the Joycons attach to the screen feels a bit weak. The analog sticks, themselves, make it hard for anyone to just stick it in your pocket (if you can fit it in your pocket). Finally, switching games on the Switch is a bit of a chore compared to the 3DS. The Switch's port is enclosed whereas the 3DS is not.

Re: Thea: The Awakening Sold "Noticeably Better" On Switch During Its First Week

I have this game for the PC and it is really good. It is a survival, build up your community (settlement) game. You do a lot of exploring, bringing back items you need to build things for the community such as town improvements, weapons, armor, food, clothing, and building improvements. Also, you unfold more about the world as you explore further from home. Combat is card based depending on your party makeup so if you don't like card based physical and social combat, this may not be for you.

While the artwork complaint is valid, for $20, don't expect artwork to be comparable to other contemporary strategy games. Most hardcore strategy gamers will tell you that artwork is the last thing on the list when deciding if the game is good. The first is gameplay, and this game seems to have a nice and fun tactical gameplay. For $20, I feel I'm getting my money's worth with all the options in the game.

Re: Review: Lightseekers - Switch's First Great Competitive Card Game Is Here

oninowon

@Coxula I play both docked and on the go roughly equally. Unfortunately, Lightseekers is not console friendly. A touch screen is a must. If this is your first ccg, you should give this game a try. Play one or two games a day or week. You get chests and boosters fairly quickly. Grinding is involved but compared to other f2p games, it is pretty mild IMHO.

Re: Lightseekers Brings Interactive Trading Card Gameplay To Switch Next Month

oninowon

Never heard of Lightseekers until I saw it on the eshop. Decided to give it a try and downloaded it couple days ago. There was a special sale going for a limited time where you could purchase 10 packs for 200 crystals. Normally, it would have cost me $2 for 100 crystals but if it is your first time buying, you got 200 crystals instead. Got some great cards from the 10 packs I purchased and opened. Been playing a game or 2 a day and win or lose, you get xp for the deck you are using. There are also quests where if you fulfill the conditions, you get gold, crystals, packs, or treasure chests. In other words, the grinding is not bad and you get packs and treasure chest relatively fast.

@Kidfunkadelic83 My advice is to just follow your advisor whenever her head appears next to a choice whether tech, civil, or district planning. Concentrate on familiarizing yourself with the core concepts such as how to access your city to build things, how to cycle and move your units, and use the cyclopedia to familiarize yourself with how each unit, buildings, and land functions. Don't worry about playing to win. Play to get used to the controls and the flow of the game. Once you have that down, then experiment with other parts of the game piecemeal.

Re: Review: NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 - Microtransactions Can't Sink This Enjoyable B-Ball Romp

oninowon

@Frenean

So I have Dragonball Fighterz on Switch. They offer the entire dlc + future dlc for $35. DBZ Fighterz has quite a few character dlc, each costing about $5. Yet people are not bashing the game for having to purchase all those dlc (and some characters can only be obtained by purchasing the dlc).

The microstransaction setup in NBA2K Playground 2 is not that different to if they were offering a dlc that offers to unlock all players and any future player downloads.

In DBZ Fighterz you have to grind to unlock other DBZ characters. NBA2K Playground requires that you grind to unlock basketball players.

Re: Video: The Second Episode Of Civilization VI's 'How To' Switch Series Is Here

I'm eagerly awaiting this for the Switch. I wanted to play this but my current pc does not have the specs to play this. I just hope the graphics and gameplay is on par with the pc version. I've had 2 other Civ games on consoles- Civ II on my PlayStation and Civ Revolution for the DS. The Civ II graphics were so terrible I had difficulty making out some units on the board. Civ Revolution was better but there really was only one way to win the game (basically you go all out blitzkrieg...).

Re: Video: Dragon Ball FighterZ Is Out Tomorrow On Switch, Here's A Live-Action Trailer To Celebrate

oninowon

@EVIL-C Target had the game out 4 days before the release date. I tried to get it the day before but when an associate tried to ring it up that day, a flag came up saying he could not ring it up til the next day (the official release date). I also noticed that the game was selling for $40 at Target so I was eager to get it before they noticed the mistake. Friday evening, the only copy was still in its anti theft case. An associate rung it up and initially, the register said the game was $60 but I showed her the price they advertised on the shelf and she gave me the game for that price!

Anyway, I was a little disappointed upon opening the game. Many of the covers on Switch games I've bought had double sided cover art. This did not. The season pass DLC price is also 15 dollars more than other Switch games that have similar offerings. However, Except for some in game items I believe all the DLC characters can be gotten in game but I'm not totally sure about that.

Having played for several hours, I love the central area, the artwork, and of course the awesome gameplay. My free Nintendo Online ran out Friday and I did not try the game out until yesterday so have not been able to tryout the online aspect of the gameplay.

Re: Review: Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux (3DS)

@Windy I have DQ7 and 8 on the PS2. DQ7 was my very first DQ game although I've since played DQ3-5 on my original DS system. DQ5 is still my favorite of the series. Generally, I'm not a fan of Mario sports but I did buy Mario Tennis for the GC and enjoyed it. Despite that I'm still on the fence about getting it for Nintendo Switch. Bad news for 3DS owners though. DQ11 will not be coming to Western shores for the 3DS. If you have a Switch, the game is still slated to come to the system but much later.

Re: Atlus Releases New Trailer For Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth

oninowon

@dougphisig Persona Q was one of the awesomous crossover title on the 3DS. Basically it took characters from Persona 3 and 4, chibi sized them and put them in Etrian Odyssey-like environment. I'm looking forward to playing this when it comes out and personally, I'm glad that the 3DS is still coming out with great games!

Re: GALAK-Z: Variant S Ditches Its $9.99 Price Tag And Launches On Switch For Free

oninowon

I've been playing this for several days now where I've completed the first 3 stages exhaustively. The in-game graphics are subpar IMHO. I've only played it as a handheld though so I don't know if the graphics improve on the big screen. I don't particularly like the control scheme and wish they gave the option to implement your own controls.

If you ever played Asteroids, you get a picture of how your ship moves. In my experience though, my ship keeps moving towards the walls even when I make a complete stop. There are loot boxes in the form of artifacts and robots. You collect artifacts through basically finishing the mission (the mini bosses give out the loot boxes after they are destroyed). You can gain more robots either through the main currency that is Crash Coins or Parts which you get from loot boxes.

The artifacts give your ship upgrades such as weapons, stronger hulls, resistance to certain elements, etc. Unfortunately, they don't come whole. You have to unlock multiple loot boxes to find all the pieces for an artifact. The loot boxes may also contain Parts (not sure what the green data chip icon is called) and Crash Coin(s). You do not gain robots through missions. Instead you may purchase either with Parts or Crash Coins for robot loot boxes which no surprise, have rarities. I believe Crash Coins give you a guaranteed Elite rarity Robot but am not sure.

You need the robots to reveal loot boxes uncovered in missions. You also need them to play in the arena (up to 3). I believe there are 3 types of robots-offensive, defensive, and utility(?) bots. I believe Bigsby, the robot you start out with is this type. They modify your ship depending on the robots you choose to fly with you. The higher level your character, the more robot crew you can add to your ship.

How invasive is the f2p element of the game? At the moment ( as I've only completed 3 stages), it does not seem to be overly pushy. I've died twice and had to spend 20 Crash Coins total (the main microtransaction) otherwise I would lose all the artifacts gained so far. However if you are the impatient type, you can spend Crash Coins to speed up uncovering the loot boxes (otherwise takes the robot 10 minutes) or refresh rate of arena combat.

There are daily gifts you gain as long as you just turn on the game. There are daily achievements that give you certain rewards if you accomplish them beside the main story missions.

Overall, I find the game fun. You really need to know the enemy types that you encounter, how to use the current lay of the land so to speak (the walls have things that are harmful to you and enemy ships), and your skill in maneuvering your ship. If you are skilled enough (not get killed in a mission) and/or are patient enough, you can easily accumulate Crash Coins and Green crystals towards upgrading your ship/mech. The cut scene art is good and the story contains a lot of humor.

By the way, I forgot to mention that your ship can transform into a mech which is required in certain missions and has its own level and artifacts.

Re: Review: Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux (3DS)

@ChibiNinja I only added the rating because there are so few adult rating games and it is joy for us adult gamers to see one on a Nintendo system. I've not played SMT Nocturn in a long time but I believe your character was never directly involved in battles.

Re: Review: Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux (3DS)

oninowon

@Windy Me too! (about being bitter about lack of stereoscopic 3D support on later 3DS games). I refused to buy the last Pokémon Sun and Moon because of it.

However, SMT Strange Journey was originally a DS game and I don't mind ports of older games not having the 3D as long it has some other enhanced features.

Re: PixelJunk Monsters 2

Thanks @Kirbygirl. Yes, I found out a while ago. You are the only person in this thread to actually answer my question though. The way they did the demo pissed me off enough that contributed putting me off the game. The others being that the shell and masks do nothing but add cosmetic effects to your character.
