Star Fox 2 is one of my most revisited SNES games. It seems to be written off as nothing but a historical footnote, but it’s a truly fantastic game with a brilliant design. One of the best games on SNES, if you’re willing to give it a real chance.
@johnedwin Adventure of Link actually was my first Zelda game and it’s still one of my favorites, but I do understand why it’s hard to recommend as somebody’s introduction to Zelda. It’s a very different beast from the rest of the series.
Back when it was new, Star Fox Adventures was the first GameCube game I ever owned, so I spent a lot of time admiring the box. I have a very deep nostalgic connection to that NA box art.
The Third Age on GameCube is one of the finest RPGs of its generation. Imagine the mega-budget Final Fantasy approach applied to the world of the LOTR films. The GBA version is an unrelated game, so somehow this article overlooked the best LOTR game, which happens to be a traditional turn based RPG.
Return to Monkey Island not only respects the entire series, it’s a love letter to it. The expectation was a direct sequel to LeChuck’s Revenge that disregarded the rest of the series. What we got was packed with references to events and characters from Curse, Escape, and Tales. I think any subtle digs you detected toward the non-Gilbert games may be projection or the expectation of drama where there is none.
It bears mentioning that Pilotwings 64 never appeared on Virtual Console and was strategically ignored in Smash Bros games, so it’s surprising to see it finally resurface for the first time since 1996. That said, the answer is Goldeneye. I’ve still never played an FPS I like as much, and it’s a minor miracle that it’s finally getting rereleased.
I remember the game being just okay, but I’ll buy anything to support this franchise. The only remaster Disney has put out for this type of game is Ducktales, which wasn’t bad. I’d love to see them assemble the original cast to record new dialogue.
I love watching them try to talk about classic NES and Game Boy games without saying Nintendo. I too remember my youth playing the Eight Bit Home Console.
Hearing Charles Martinet go wild with these characters is a true joy. If the Mario movie is longer than three minutes though, I absolutely understand the choice to go in a different direction.
I’m really into the giant dev console in the middle, with its official Dolphin logo and off-the-shelf DVD drive. It warms my heart that it was already purple this early on.
It doesn’t work for me. I’m getting the exact “Unable to connect to the server” error I always get. I’m using a Wii U and I know it’s connected properly. I lost all my Wii Shop downloads and I’m really excited about downloading them again. Is anybody else having issues?
Ace Attorney is an inspired choice. The way Theatrythm splits up field stages and battle stages would translate easily to Investigation and Courtroom stages. That said, if they crammed everything from Curtain Call onto a Switch cartridge and added FF15 and FF16 music, it would be my Game of the Year.
We’ve seen very little, almost nothing really, but what we have seen looks interesting enough. Honestly, if it isn’t using the same lousy 3D Sonic design in a sad attempt to recreate the 2D Genesis games, that’s a humongous step in the right direction. It doesn’t resemble existing 3D Sonic, which is desperately needed, and the rest is way too soon to cast judgment on.
The lack of combat here gives me great hope for this game. I doubt they will be bold enough to omit it entirely, but I hope this illustrates an emphasis on exploration over combat. I’ll be a little sad if they cover this world in robots to battle with mindless homing attacks.
Pac-in-Time was the big reason I wanted this collection and it did not disappoint. Its wild, physics-based grappling hook gameplay is incredible and I would venture to call it one of the best puzzle platformers on SNES. I can’t begin to imagine why it was so readily dismissed here.
I have confirmed that this contains the best version of Link’s Awakening, the original 1.0 Game Boy release. The glitches in this version, like screen warping, defined my childhood. I never thought I’d see this version released again and I am beyond excited.
