Re: Poll: A New Donkey Kong Game Must Be Coming, But What Should It Be?

Am I the only one that didn't like DKC2?
DKC was so perfect in every respect, the sound design the colours. It was wonderfully simple, the sequels just seemed to muddy the waters and lose sight of the design language established in the first entry without creating a new identity. The smaller crocs making the heavy croc sound pisses me off so much. As far as a new entry, I would like to see a truly innovative cutting edge entry that takes artistic advantage of options open to designers today. Everything since DKC has been an iteration on that first greatest innovation. Put some clever designers onto it and let them experiment to make something that feels as new today as DKC did back in the day.

One of my greatest desires for the film would be for it to capture some of those rom-com, light dating-sim aspects that made Ocarina of Time such a compelling coming of age story. Having a bunch of cute girls all throwing themselves at the oblivious silent protangonist would add a lot of heart and humor to what could potentially be quite a dry action flick. Malon, Ruto and Saria having one-sided flirty conversations with Link would be the perfect way to have him speak whilst remaining silent. Romantic false leads can make an audience invested in the setting, in a way that a flashy explosion can't. Of course, Zelda herself would have no time for such frivolous nonsense and her sticking to the plot would give her the appeal of an unattainable charm. Having Link be a oblivious chick magnet would make him popular with guys and girls alike. I'm not saying make it a harem anime the whole way through, just a hint of it.

I love the theatre theme. Brings me back to Super Mario Bros 3, which feels very intentional. For Nintendo to reference that game... It's a big deal. They are making a geand statement in doing so. Perhaps because Mario 3 was the swan somg of the NES they are declaring this as the swan somg of the switch. Going out with a big theatrical bang! I think this is going to be, not just an amazing game, but an astoundingly successful line of merch. I have never bought an amibo in my life (I was tempted to get toon link) but I already want the whole set from this. They know exactly what they're doing. Watch the share price sky rocket before the switch 2 even comes out.

Re: Poll: When Will You Be Watching The Super Mario Bros. Movie?

Easter Monday.
It's my 36th birthday.
Going with my partner and our daughter, she's almost 3. It will be her first time at the cinema. Hopefully she doesn't freak out during the ads before the movie even starts. The grand parents will be looking after her little brother who is not quite 1 year.
It's nice reading everyones' plans. I know I will probably hate the movie but I'm still very excited about it. I don't care if it's terrible just as long as they don't turn Mario into the chosen one from some lame prophecy....

@gcunit
The arm thing just screams an on screen representation of gaming hardware. Ala Sheikah Slate and even going all the way back to the Stone of Agony.
There's also the historical precedence of motion controls being showcased in Zelda games: Twighlight Princess with the wiimote and Skyward Sword with the wiimote plus.
Every piece of artwork Nintendo has released for TOTK has Link's strange ringed arm as the focal point. The arm itself is strange and ghostly, as though it's not his arm. Maybe it's our arm!! Even the game's logo is a big giant ring! I still remember when I first tried a wiimote, I remember thinking I want one on each finger. There's even gameplay footage of link doing what looks like a gesture based control pushing a rock up a hill with some kind of time stop ability. I think Ring Fit Adventure was part of it too. Testing the waters, trying out concepts etc. I could be way off, but I've convinced myself to the point where I will be just as surprised if I'm right or wrong.

For the best part of a year I've been closely following all news about this game. I have a very big prediction. Every piece of artwork, every statement, every trailer, every bread crumb and evey clue have all convinced me, more and more, that I'm right. Since tomorrow we will all find out for sure, I will state my prediction here for you, my fellow Zelda fans.
SPOILER ALERT
Tomorrow Nintendo will announce a newly designed controller consisting of a set of motion control rings. Each ring has full motion tracking for inidividual finger precision. It's the next evolution of Nintendo's motion controls, first introduced on the Nintendo Wii. The first compatible game will be The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. That's what's up with Link's arm. It's the new controller for the Switch. That's why Eiji Aonuma is posing next to a Switch controller.
