If I am going to make a more grounded guess, I would say perhaps an announcement regarding Shenmue III Enhanced. If said announcement also led to a port of the I & II HD Collection, I wouldn’t be upset.
@Dr_Corndog I was taking the article to imply that RTA did not require permission prior to 2020 because they were not a legal entity. Now, as a non-profit, they are required to seek permission when using copyrighted work. I think Nintendo is seeking to abide by a standard that RTA accepted 5 years ago.
From what I could find, RTA’s new status as of 2020 means they need to seek permission for all copyrighted material, not just Nintendo. Other publishers probably don’t have to proactively say anything and could choose to take action if they never granted permission. This sounds like something that wouldn’t be surprising to RTA assuming they did their due diligence.
Games Done Quick was mentioned here earlier, and they appear to operate under Fair Use exemptions that Japan does not operate under.
I am hopeful that the union will be successful. I understand there are some other factors at play such as the estate of James Earl Jones and the nature of how the character is specifically being used, but neither of those factors excuse Epic from breaking their contract if that is what happened here.
I don’t want to speak for SAG-AFTRA as I am adjacent to their situation at best, but I can’t imagine this is about abolishing AI. Good faith bargaining likely means acknowledging that it is going to be used in the industry but there needs to be fences around it.
I think it is short-sighted to assume that SAG-AFTRA is fighting against the use of James Earl Jones’s voice. I think they are fighting for it to be used fairly as it relates to an established employment agreement. Giving the employer free rein would be a terrible precedent that would eventually hurt the gamers.
@TheSaneInsanity It sounds like Epic is still a bargaining partner and they may have violated the collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. It wouldn’t surprise me if there is a non-union presence, but given the previous voice actors involved there is likely a union one as well.

I am putting a new Pilotwings out in the universe because it couldn’t possibly hurt.
Re: Shenmue III Is Finally Confirmed For 'Nintendo Platforms'
I can’t count the hours I spent going back to the 100-man battle on Dreamcast.
Never got to play Shenmue II, but maybe this will encourage me to revisit the HD collection. Hopefully Switch gets the other two.

@Dr_Corndog What policy are you suggesting was changed?
Re: Nintendo Won't Let Charity Speedrunning Event Use Its Games Without Permission, Because Of Course
@Sirko I would add that the notice from Nintendo was likely more of a courtesy than an obligation.

This is not to be confused with the “given the boot” screen provided should your console be bricked.
Re: Fortnite Devs Hit With Unfair Labour Practice Filing Following AI Darth Vader Fiasco
@TheSaneInsanity That could very well be part of it. The actual usage is probably a whole other ball of wax.
I think a big fight is with Epic unilaterally changing the terms of a bargained contract if that is what happened.
