Re: Switch 2 Reportedly Sold 2.4 Million Units In First Three Months On The Market (US)

I think the days where consoles launched with boundary-busting exclusive new games are in the past (if they ever existed aside Mario 64) - even Breath of the Wild launched on the previous gen console.

If you discount all the great multi-platform games that have launched in the last 6 months (Hades II, Silksong), plus the remasters and updates of S1 games (the Zeldas), and don't like Donkey Kong for whatever reason, then yeah it might look pretty thin. But we don't regret our purchase for a second, it barely gets put down in our household.

Re: "Everyone Is A Director" At Nintendo, Says Former Dev, But Don't Make Excuses

@Kazman2007 I think the key here is "implementing a spec". It sounds like they are expected to use their own initiative to test and fix things that aren't working. I doubt they are encouraged to randomly add their own ideas in.

As far as I understand Nintendo is relatively democratic in that everyone can pitch in to every part of the game, but also ruthless in getting rid of anything that's not good.

Re: Talking Point: Will Metroid Prime 4 Get A Switch 2 Release?

Not sure why this is even a question. Of course there will be a Switch 2 version, considering they already did this exact thing with Zelda TP and BOW. It's easy these days to do an upgraded version - higher res, higher framerate, better lighting and textures, mouse controls etc etc.

The question is just how it will be retailed. While an Xbox style Smart Delivery model would be cool, knowing Nintendo there will just be two retail SKUs.

Re: PlatinumGames Wipes Several Games From Its Website's Portfolio

The problem with the controls in SF Zero is not that they are too hard or too different - both of those could be good things. The problem is that they encouraged a style of play that wasn't much fun – going one way and shooting another. It feels awkward and deadens the pace. On top of that, the general level design etc wasn't very good from what I remember. A big disappointment for someone who's very first console game was Starwing.

Re: Super Mario Bros. 3 Special Version Jumps Onto The Switch Online NES Library

What was great about the Virtual Console is you got a wide range of games to choose from.

What was great about the NES and SNES minis is you got a tightly curated selection of greats.

Switch Online just seems a mess. There's actually loads of interesting things on there and tons of quality games, but it feels diluted. They would be better off just stopping the updates.

Re: Former Star Fox Programmer Would Be Interested In Making A New Entry Without The "Gimmicks"

Very much agree. I was sorely disappointed with Zero. Even if you got used to the controls, the underlying game was zero fun to play - partly because of the need to justify the control scheme.

Plus it was seriously underwhelming in terms of visuals and story. 64 felt like playing a movie, Assault looks great even today. For a full price on-rails game, Zero should have had much more awe and spectacle. It's made by the same people as Bayonetta and Vanquish! Instead it looks and plays half-hearted.

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?

greenwichlee

Wow. I have every Nintendo console and have never had a single problem with any of them. (Other than the usual cartridge reading issue on the older machines.)

On the other hand, every non official controller or memory card I've ever bought have bust. My Dreamcast stopped working and my original 360 RRODed.
