@Stark_Nebula Other M doesn't count as a Metroid game. =I
This was a little ND, which makes sense considering they're going to have a huge one in less than a month. It's good to see some things finally dated, such as NSLU (and I was surprised to hear that it would be getting a boxed release too). Also, playable E3 demos for the general public? Uh, yes please! Hopefully my local Best Buy is one of the ones they choose, 'cause I don't wanna miss the chance to play MKU!
Hopefully we get some good info on Zelda 3DS, WWHD, and maybe some concept art (or even a trailer, if we're lucky!) of Zelda U! I'm also really looking forward to Retro's secret project. Would love for it to be Prime 4, but I'd also be down with them doing Star Fox! I've never much liked F-Zero, but perhaps they can change my opinion of that too.
@Midnight3DS Not interested in the GamePad features they'll put in on Wii U? If they do it right, that should really make the Wii U version the definitive one, and that's why I'll be picking it up for the U.
@MarioPartyFan999 Heh, they'd probably go the Square Enix route and call themselves Nintendo SEGA or something. Don't wanna risk brand confusion.
I would love to see Sonic in MKU. I've always thought he should be in (but run, not drive). I'd also love to see Nintendo Kart, with the big Nintendo characters racing instead of fighting. Link on Epona or a Loftwing, Samus in her ship, Captain Falcon in the Blue Falcon...yes please!
Either way, I'm down for a crossover, as long as it plays more like Mario Kart. (I seem to be one of the few who actually LIKED MKWii and MK7, and both of them more than S&ASRT.)
@Best_ Well, SEGA confirmed the next three Sonic games will be Nintendo exclusive, so perhaps this is the beginning of a bigger partnership. SEGA returning to the console scene in a joint venture with Nintendo? Perhaps gaming's oldest rivals will merge into one company?
@banacheck The Wii U, PS4, and Nextbox are all part of the eighth generation of home video game consoles. This man referring to this generation as Gen 4 makes him sound like an idiot. Even if you want to ignore the two generations before Nintendo entered the console business, this would be the sixth generation; however, this is Gen 8. Were EA making games for Gen 4, they'd be working on some SNES titles. Actually, probably not, since EA doesn't like Nintendo; they'd be working on SEGA's console.
@Nightwalker Nope. If it's a truly good game, how old it is doesn't matter. The Oracle games have held up very well. They could've been published yesterday (though people would likely whine that they were too hard). Super Metroid is still a good game and could easily be sold for twenty bucks. Chrono Trigger is still great, as is ALttP, or Secret of Mana, or Super Mario World, or Donkey Kong Country. Games drop in price over time, but a quality experience remains a quality experience regardless of when it came out, and a truly good game will always be worth its price. Saying that twenty bucks is too much simply because a game is old is ridiculous, especially when the game has held up very well.
If you like top-down Zelda games, if you like Link's Awakening, do yourself a favor and pick these up. Both of them. If you have to pick one, I recommend Ages, but that's just personal preference; they're both amazing. But if you can get both, do it. Linking them together is awesome and is the only way to get the true experience. Easily my favorite top-down Zelda.
@Nightwalker Why not? Legitimately, why not? They're long games with more dungeons, items, content, and challenge than many retail games today. Especially when you play both to link them together and unlock the true final act of the game. These are both easily worth twenty dollars or more alone, and five (or six) bucks is an unbelievable deal. Unless graphis are how you judge a game's worth, like so many people today.
@SLiM Same system. You get a code when you finish one and put it in when you start the next game.
@NintendoCat14 These are very similar games to Link's Awakening, using the same graphics and many of the same items (but none of the same dungeons). I personally like them a little more than Link's Awakening.
Am I the only one who thought Brawl sucked comparatively? Melee was much better as a fighting game, much quicker as opposed to Brawl's slow, floaty crap, and let's not forget that random tripping is the stupidest idea ever. I did like the characters though, and the addition of snapshots, extra taunts, and the Subspace Emissary. I hope Smash 4's physics are more like Melee's, but they keep the good additions they made to Brawl and keep the cast large. (There's a reason Project: M is my favorite Smash Bros. game. Look it up if you like Melee.)
As for newcomers, all I really want are Ridley, Mega Man, Paper Mario, Little Mac, and a Castlevania character. I also want Roy to come back.
@hydeks How is it any worse than getting a big publisher to pay for it? At least with crowdfunding you can actually gauge the public's interest in your product. People who want to can directly support it, and the developers get to interact more with the community this way. In all honesty, I much prefer crowdfunding to meetings with investors behind closed doors.
As others have said, the animations look a little clunky, but I can forgive that. Anyone else notice the character's name is Amon? There must be some Korra fans here.
Oh good, let's all use video games as a scapegoat yet again. =I
Video games have nothing to do with this case. And even if video games were proven to be detrimental to one's health, it's a parent's responsibility to stop their kids playing games they shouldn't be. Clearly this kid's parents did a terrible job raising him.
@k8sMum Lemme further explain my point. I agree with you that technically there is legal basis to sue. Hell, they might even win. I just don't think there's any point to it. There's a difference between including a meme or a slice of pop culture in your game, and blatantly making and selling a game called Fyan Bat about a danish with a bat head who soars through the sky to chiptune. Yes, Nyan Cat was included in a game that was sold for money. So? In Terraria, a for-profit PC indie game, you can make a Link or Mario outfit for your character. Sure, Nintendo could sue, but they won't, because the inclusion of those references is a harmless display of fandom. That's all I'm saying.
@grimbldoo This is my exact point. They COULD sue, but there's no point.
@k8sMum It wasn't trademarked when they put it in in the first place. Why would they think a meme would be trademarked? Is "My body is ready?" trademarked? How about troll face? And Grumpy Cat? Or "let me explain you a thing"? What about "The cake is a lie"?
They're memes. Never for even the briefest second would it cross my mind that any meme that wasn't directly ripped from something copyrighted was copyright protected. ("Shut up and take my money!" for example. I don't think Valve owns the rights to "The cake is a lie" as its never said in the game, and it's not like Nintendo's laid claim to "My body is ready.") Anyway, my point is that it wasn't legally trademarked when it was put in the first game, and thus, from the developers' point of view, was safe to keep using. Maybe these guys deserve money. Maybe not. But my original point to you is that using memes is different from ripping off whole games.
This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If I saw my meme (how anyone can say "my meme" with a straight face is beyond me) in a video game, I'd be flattered, and I wouldn't sue. The game has millions (at least) of summonable items. Nyan Cat and Keyboard Cat aren't selling points, they're not advertised as being in the game, and they're only there if you look for them. The game has a time machine, for god's sake. These people aren't losing any money. It's also worth noting that things like Longcat are in the game as well, yet you don't see Longcat's creator throwing a fit.
I mean come on. Can Nintendo sue Ubisoft because Ezio's uncle says "It's-a me, Mario!" in Assassin's Creed II? Do they have legal grounds for a lawsuit if another game uses an item that functions like a Hookshot? Should they be entitled to compensation because PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale takes the concept of Smash Bros. with Sony characters? No! This is insane.
@k8sMum An internet meme and a highly valuable piece of intellectual property aren't in any way comparable. Copying a video game and selling it as your own isn't the same thing as dropping a piece of pop culture in a game for those who look.
@Peach64 The difference is that both these Nintendo consoles actually HAVE buttons. If the Wii U was entirely touch controlled, I would have been significantly less likely to buy it. The reason the Kinect sucks is because it's all virtual with NO physical interface. Skyward Sword on Kinect would have been terrible, but the controls work beautifully on the Wii remote because you can actually hold something in your hand and press buttons to cause actions. I like my Wii U and my Wii and the new experiences they offer, but playing Mario or Metroid without buttons would be horrendous.
The only way hardcore gamers are going to move from console (or PC) to tablet is if tablets start coming out: (a) with physical buttons, (b) that offer console-quality games that play AT LEAST as well and look AT LEAST as good as on their consoles, and (c) at a price point that is comparable to consoles.
Until these things happen, hardcore gamers won't accept a tablet as opposed to a console. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if in four years this technology was possible and normal, so perhaps this will come true. Gaming tablets already exist, though they're pretty expensive at the moment, but I do expect them to become more mainstream. Is 2017 a reasonable estimate? Perhaps. Tablets have been around for a while and technology gets better every day.
"Untill the day I read that someone killed another person while kart racing by throwing a turtle at them I will not accept that gaming is the only influence on one persons actions to another."
I can't stand how the Wii looks, mine anyway. I don't understand how people can call it sleek. It's matte white and clunky as hell, and without the charm the GameCube had. On the flipside, I love the way my Wii U looks, glossy black, rounded edges, with that nice blue power LED and the white "disc in" light. I like the way it looks far more than any other console on the market.
I don't think a different design would've helped, nor different colors. (Sony consoles are always black, after all.) I like the name, but they probably should have given it a different one for the stupid masses. Ah well, too late now.
@ViRtUaLbOy11 Firstly, you can't fall off Onett. Secondly, Pikachu was on Mushroom Kingdom. Third, you're thinking of Pichu and Fourside. Fourth, you're misusing the word "respectively." And fifth, you're incorrect. On Fourside, it looks like Luigi moves because of the camera and the spinning, but he doesn't. And on Poké Floats he clearly doesn't move.
@Fusion14 Ohhh, I remember now, I did use it. For one thing. And it wasn't even a game, it was Flipnote Studio. There was not a single game on the DSi Shop that I found interesting, which is not true of the eShop.
Look, we're clearly not gonna convince each other of anything, so let's just stop. We'll see who's right when there's more info.
@Justaguest IT'S NOT A REMAKE. You see one similar location and a boss that's been in multiple games and conclude it's a remake? It's got new abilities, new dungeons, a new story...it's not a remake. God forbid a sequel have any ties whatsoever to the original game.
@Fusion14 Oh. And LA on the eShop is selling so highly because it was one of the first games on there, and because people know it's a fantastic game. Not because it's a top-down game.
@Fusion14 Well, you just lost all credibility calling the Oracle games weird, but I'll still address this. First of all, it's your own fault if you're not willing to spend a measly forty bucks on a game because of its perspective and connections to past games. Secondly, IT'LL BE ON THE ESHOP. It just won't be the only place to get it. Maybe you're right and not every single game needs to be big (though your point about Wind Waker is wrong; I don't know a single person who gives a damn about how it looks, and it was always a big game), but for now, that's the way it is. Zelda is a big name and having it exclusively available online WILL alienate consumers. It's pretty elitist of you to say people who don't have wi-fi shoudn't get a 3DS. Not everyone wants a wireless connection or has any interest in eShop gaming. Making a big game like Zelda eShop exclusive is forcing Zelda fans into buying something they don't want in order to play the game, and that's a bad idea. Nintendo will not make a big-name game download only, because at this point in time, it's not a good idea. Zelda sells systems. That's a fact. Nintendo's not going to make Zelda sell systems AND routers. I'm sorry you're going to pass on this game, because it's simply not going to be eShop exclusive. Deal with it and buy it, or don't. I don't really care. But I guarantee you it will be sold physically, at retail price, as well as digitally.
@Fusion14 Why should they have to live on in the eShop? A Zelda game is a big deal to a Nintendo console, and it should be. I don't want a small, crappy Zelda every year, I want big Zelda games when they're ready. Just because a system can do amazing 3D, doesn't mean it has to with every single game. For a sequel to ALttP, top-down is the right choice. You wouldn't make the sequel to Wind Waker have Twilight Princess graphics. Zelda is a big franchise with one or two releases every generation, and the games are better for it. Who gives a damn if the game is cartoony or top-down? ALttP, OoS/OoA, and LA were all fantastic games. 2D Zelda should exist, but it should be just as big a deal as 3D Zelda. I don't want it to be eShop only because I don't want to see Zelda become that kind of series. Zelda games are big events, and they should always stay that way.
@Fusion14 Okay, well, my offer is still in place. If it's eShop only, I'll buy your copy. If not...well, it just means I know this company better than some. =3
@Fusion14 Not a single one of those could even remotely be considered major. They were put on the eShop because they weren't worth a physical release. We're talking about a Zelda game here, the next installment in one of the best-selling series of all time. As long as Nintendo is still making physical copies of games, Zelda will be released physically. Along with Mario, Metroid, Pokémon...and this definitely isn't going to be the generation Nintendo starts going digital only. Not enough people have stable or fast enough internet connections, people will always want to collect games, and lots and lots of people still like to own their games physically. Nintendo isn't going to alienate a ton of customers or prevent them from getting a potential system seller. It's just common sense.
You're right that digital media is the way of the future, but we're nowhere near digital ONLY for major releases.
@Fusion14 But it WILL be a retail game. If you knew anything about Nintendo you'd know that. A new Zelda will sell systems, and they won't restrict potential buyers to a download-only game. Seriously, you can't write off a game as not deserving of a retail release simply because of how the art style looks. Are Pokémon X and Y gonna be eShop only? How about a new Metroid game? It simply won't happen.
I keep hoping for a new Four Swords game. Wii U or 3DS would be the perfect place to do it.
@Fusion14 You don't know ANYTHING about what it will do to the 3DS' hardware. Neither do I. You don't know how big the game will be, how many dungeons it'll have, how long the dungeons will be, or how much the game will challenge you. You're basing your impressions of the game around a minute-long video and a few screenshots of what's definitely not the final build of the game, and deciding it needs to be cheap? It's a proper new Zelda game. It will be high quality, it won't be rushed, and it will be designed to utilize its platform's hardware in the best way it can. That's why it'll be priced at (and worth!) a retail price. If you're going to write it off because of how it looks without actually having touched the game, you're as bad as everyone who decided Wind Waker wasn't worth it because it's cartoony, and that's moronic.
And I meant Four Swords Anniversary Edition basically doubled the content of the original Four Swords on GBA, which was a miniscule game. FSAE remains a small game with little content, which is why it was an eShop-only title, and a free one. ALttP 2 may use the same overworld as ALttP and expand it, or it may just have some familiar locations. Either way, it's not like they're just pasting the original game into this one; they have to make models for everything, and even if they were solely remaking ALttP's overworld, that would be a big endeavor. For the work they have to put in, it may as well be a brand new game. They're essentially starting with blueprints, to which they may or may not adhere completely. Either way, they're building a big world. And the dungeons, which are the majority of the game's challenge and reason for playing, all have to be designed from scratch, as well as the story and the gameplay mechanics. Regardless of overworld, most of the content in this game will be brand new, and that's what counts.
And I don't know how you don't know this yet, but "holiday season" in the gaming industry always means around Christmastime.
@Fusion14 Yes, because FSAE is totally the same scope of project as a brand new Zelda game. It basically doubles what is originally a tiny game. AND it was free. This is a full new game. And I don't know what you're quoting, since the section you're quoting isn't something I said.
So despite the fact that each new Animal Crossing, a much smaller series than Zelda, is similar from one installment to the next, gets a full retail price and sells incredibly well while doing so, a brand new Zelda game deserves a fifteen dollar price tag for what will certainly be an enormous game? That WILL NOT HAPPEN. It will be a full retail game. If a remake of OoT can sell at full price, then so can a new Zelds game.
And I'm serious. If the game doesn't see a retail release or a standard retail price, I will purchase your copy. That's how confident I am that you're wrong.
@Fusion14 And what about making sales to people who don't want to download? There is absolutely no chance whatsoever a Zelda game will be download only while they're still making cartridges. None at all. If it turns out to be download only, then hell, I'll buy you a copy, but Nintendo absolutely will not do that with the next installment of a major franchise.
@Peach64 For the love of god. Unless the dungeons are the same and nothing new is introduced, it's not a damn remake. By your logic, Twilight Princess is a remake of Ocarina of Time because the world is similar and it uses some of the same enemies. So Four Swords Adventures and Link's Awakening are remakes because they have the same boss? Oh, Wind Waker and OoT are the same game because they both have Phantom Ganon. We know extremely little about this game, but I trust them to make a different game if they're saying it's not a remake. Just give it a chance. Jeez.
@Fusion14 ... You, uh...you do know they're without a doubt going to put it on eShop AS WELL AS making it a retail game? Y'know, so people who don't have the digital space or simply want to collect the physical game (like myself) can buy it too?
And how do you even know how big the game will be? Even if it's an unchanged ALttP world, that was a pretty big world and redoing it all with 3D models will take a good chunk of space. Not to mention the dungeons, which will likely be numerous and large.
@MarioPartyFan999 Nintendo ALWAYS said they'd make a new Zelda before remaking Majora's Mask. Look, they're making a new Zelda. Next they'll probably remake Majora's Mask, since after this game I very much doubt they're going to remake A Link to the Past.
Am I the only one who thought the touch controls worked perfectly fine? O_o Well, considering the gameplay is on the top screen, it'll be controlled with the circle pad, so don't worry.
ALttP was an amazing game, but not one of my absolute favorites...I prefer Link's Awakening and the Oracle games. Nevertheless, a sequel is very much welcome and it's about time we got an original Zelda on 3DS. Now hopefully we'll get that MM remake later on! =D
...I wish they'd given us a title so I knew what to call it.
I already own Kirby Pinball and don't much care for 3D Mario games. I'd be all over Super Metroid if I weren't getting it really cheap next month, and I don't know a thing about Urban Champion, so...we'll see. But probably nothing this month. Mostly I'm just waiting to learn this year's platinum and gold rewards.
@mch One almost certainly will, but they need to release this one before getting started on another. =P
My girlfriend is getting this and I'll almost certainly join her. We live across the country from each other so it'll be awesome to be able to wander around the town together and show off what we've done!

Re: Eiji Aonuma: Zelda 3DS Will Feature a Light and Dark World
@grumblebuzzz I'm nineteen and really excited for this game. ALttP was an astoundingly good game. =D
Re: Smartphones And Tablets To Be "Primary Screen For Gamers" By 2017
@Peach64 The difference is that both these Nintendo consoles actually HAVE buttons.
Re: Smartphones And Tablets To Be "Primary Screen For Gamers" By 2017
The only way hardcore gamers are going to move from console (or PC) to tablet is if tablets start coming out:
(a) with physical buttons,
(b) that offer console-quality games that play AT LEAST as well and look AT LEAST as good as on their consoles, and
(c) at a price point that is comparable to consoles.
Re: Mario Kart, Wii Sports And Animal Crossing Named In Violent Games Rundown
@GiftedGimp
"Untill the day I read that someone killed another person while kart racing by throwing a turtle at them I will not accept that gaming is the only influence on one persons actions to another."
You have no idea how hard I laughed at that.
Re: Mutant Mudds Developer Muses on Wii U Design
I can't stand how the Wii looks, mine anyway. I don't understand how people can call it sleek. It's matte white and clunky as hell, and without the charm the GameCube had. On the flipside, I love the way my Wii U looks, glossy black, rounded edges, with that nice blue power LED and the white "disc in" light. I like the way it looks far more than any other console on the market.
I don't think a different design would've helped, nor different colors. (Sony consoles are always black, after all.) I like the name, but they probably should have given it a different one for the stupid masses. Ah well, too late now.
Re: Video: Luigi Defeats All Characters On Super Smash Bros. Melee By Doing Absolutely Nothing
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
@Fusion14 And there sure were a lot of top-selling DSiWare games. I HAD a DSi and I didn't even know there was a digital shop on it.
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
@Fusion14 Oh. And LA on the eShop is selling so highly because it was one of the first games on there, and because people know it's a fantastic game. Not because it's a top-down game.
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
@Fusion14 Okay, well, my offer is still in place. If it's eShop only, I'll buy your copy. If not...well, it just means I know this company better than some. =3
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
@Fusion14 Ohhh, good one. rolls my eyes Tell me, what was the last major game Nintendo made themselves that was eShop exclusive?
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
@Fusion14 But it WILL be a retail game. If you knew anything about Nintendo you'd know that. A new Zelda will sell systems, and they won't restrict potential buyers to a download-only game. Seriously, you can't write off a game as not deserving of a retail release simply because of how the art style looks. Are Pokémon X and Y gonna be eShop only? How about a new Metroid game? It simply won't happen.
I keep hoping for a new Four Swords game. Wii U or 3DS would be the perfect place to do it.
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
Re: First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda 3DS
@Geonjaha I know they made it up, but it doesn't change the fact that it exists. And with any luck, future games should have a specific place.
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
@Fusion14 And what about making sales to people who don't want to download? There is absolutely no chance whatsoever a Zelda game will be download only while they're still making cartridges. None at all. If it turns out to be download only, then hell, I'll buy you a copy, but Nintendo absolutely will not do that with the next installment of a major franchise.
Re: First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda 3DS
@Prof_Elvin_Gadd I loved Skyward Sword's controls. I hope WWHD has an option for them.
@0SP_ZELDAiii It doesn't necessarily mean anything. That was a beta of the game.
Re: First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda 3DS
@Peach64 For the love of god. Unless the dungeons are the same and nothing new is introduced, it's not a damn remake. By your logic, Twilight Princess is a remake of Ocarina of Time because the world is similar and it uses some of the same enemies. So Four Swords Adventures and Link's Awakening are remakes because they have the same boss? Oh, Wind Waker and OoT are the same game because they both have Phantom Ganon. We know extremely little about this game, but I trust them to make a different game if they're saying it's not a remake. Just give it a chance. Jeez.
Re: First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda 3DS
@Geonjaha The Hyrule Historia disagrees with you. There is a timeline.
Re: Check Out This Comparison Between The New 3DS Zelda And Link To The Past
@Fusion14 ...
Re: New Legend Of Zelda Title Confirmed For Nintendo 3DS, Due Late 2013
@MarioPartyFan999 Nintendo ALWAYS said they'd make a new Zelda before remaking Majora's Mask. Look, they're making a new Zelda. Next they'll probably remake Majora's Mask, since after this game I very much doubt they're going to remake A Link to the Past.
Re: New Legend Of Zelda Title Confirmed For Nintendo 3DS, Due Late 2013
@shinobi88 Right, because a sequel could in no way be any different from its predecessor.
Re: New Legend Of Zelda Title Confirmed For Nintendo 3DS, Due Late 2013
Am I the only one who thought the touch controls worked perfectly fine? O_o Well, considering the gameplay is on the top screen, it'll be controlled with the circle pad, so don't worry.
ALttP was an amazing game, but not one of my absolute favorites...I prefer Link's Awakening and the Oracle games. Nevertheless, a sequel is very much welcome and it's about time we got an original Zelda on 3DS. Now hopefully we'll get that MM remake later on! =D
...I wish they'd given us a title so I knew what to call it.
Re: A New Yoshi's Island Title is Coming to 3DS
I really loved the first game and the DS one was...crappy, sadly. =/ Hopefully this one is good too! =)
I like the art style. It's like Yoshi's Island meets Yoshi's Story, both of which were great.
Re: WayForward and Ubisoft Releasing The Smurfs 2 on Wii U, Wii and DS
Without reading the article, the only thing I can say is no.
EDIT: Having read it, it might not be awful. Nevertheless, I say no to the Smurfs on principle.
Re: Yacht Club Games: Shovel Knight Aims to be a "Next-Gen 8-bit Game"
I'm really looking forward to this one, actually. Definitely gonna get it on my Wii U!
Re: Review: Witch & Hero (3DS eShop)
@Nintendawg "mindless as they come" is also grammatically correct.
Re: Club Nintendo Rewards Updated With Some Retro Classics
I already own Kirby Pinball and don't much care for 3D Mario games. I'd be all over Super Metroid if I weren't getting it really cheap next month, and I don't know a thing about Urban Champion, so...we'll see. But probably nothing this month. Mostly I'm just waiting to learn this year's platinum and gold rewards.
Re: Video: This Animal Crossing: New Leaf Trailer Shows You Around
@mch One almost certainly will, but they need to release this one before getting started on another. =P
My girlfriend is getting this and I'll almost certainly join her. We live across the country from each other so it'll be awesome to be able to wander around the town together and show off what we've done!
