Re: New Lawsuits Claim FIFA Is Built On "Illusionary And Addictive" Pay-To-Win Mechanics

@PuppyToucher I thank you and @eh-red for your replies. I never said you can't be mentally or physically addicted to something. The choice to consume in the first place is the user's decision (with the exception of people force fed drugs/alcohol). Again, it may be a disease that leads them to an addiction, but the addiction is not the disease. Addiction is not a relapsing brain disorder. Physical withdrawal symptoms from alcohol does not make it a disease. It's a direct result of substance abuse. It would have been prevented in the first place by not consuming the substance. That is a choice. Addiction is voluntary. There are research and studies that how shown this to be true, but it's highly ignored. I refer to the Harvard educated Gene M. Heyman (PhD) as my source. Please look him up.

I would suggest you do some research on how the United States of America essentially invented addiction as a disease in the early 20th century. As for this comment, it will be my last on this subject. I will read any replies but refrain from repeating myself. I took this entire section a bit too personal and came out of the gate hot. That's on me. I encourage everyone to research topics and make decisions on their own accord. If I offended anyone personally, I humbly apologize. I understand if anyone decides to ignore my comments from here forward. However, I will stick to talking video games and not debating topics like addiction.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I will respectfully keep mine to myself unless it's video game related. Thanks to Nintendo Life for having a wonderful place for all of us to enjoy. I regret, and am sorry, for contributing to internet toxicity.

@SBandy No, I don't just accept common misinformation spread by big businesses as facts. I challenge the study of researchers that are paid by pharmaceutical companies. Addiction is voluntary. There is well-established research that proves this, but it is often ignored because people can't be bothered to educate themselves. Instead they are brainwashed and believe the first thing they read because an expert said so.

Re: New Lawsuits Claim FIFA Is Built On "Illusionary And Addictive" Pay-To-Win Mechanics

@DawgP I'm afraid misinformation is not a thing in my case. You are right, not every human is the same. Some have much weaker minds and have no ability to take control. They can't take ownership of their own problems so they have to blame it on addiction being a disease.

Depression is a disease. Being depressed can lead to addiction, but don't confuse them as the same. The compulsion to drink would not exist if the person never takes a drink of alcohol in the first place. Alcoholism is not heriditary, it is not contagious. Drinking, and gaming, are not rights, they are a priveledge. You make a choice to consume. If you have a different disease like depression, you should not be consuming depressants, which alcohol is.

Make more sense to you? Or does it not line up with your "elitist" education? Expertise? I laugh in your expert's face.

Federal agencies have spent billions of taxpayer dollars on addiction, and thousands of trained professionals have dedicated careers to solving the "drug problem". If addiction has not been properly defined, then it is likely that these efforts are not accomplishing as much as they could. What "public" and "professionals" say about addiction is "important".

@Northwind this is for you also. Enjoy.

Re: Sakurai Knows Smash Bros. Has Too Many Fire Emblem Characters, But It's Nintendo's Fault

cptspaulding

They really knew how to turn a new gamer to the series off. This was my first entry into the Smash universe, and it will be my only. Don't get me wrong, I love Terry, but he's the only reason I'm here. The uninspiring release of another character from FE completely ruled out me buying Fighter Pass 2. I just don't want to be disappointed by each and every single fighter they release in that pass. The worst part is, the six are already decided upon, so you can likely bet we'll see major letdowns.

Re: The Switch Online Service Now Has More Than 15 Million Subscribers

cptspaulding

How about NSO subscribers get 10% off eShop purchases? Or, like the PS+, NSO subscribers get additional discounts on top of sale prices available to everyone.

I know we get the NES & SNES games, but maybe an extra free game per month, or a game trial per month, would be nice. The way they did it with Mario Tennis, where you get a 7-day game trial and the game is discounted if you want to purchase. It'd be nice to have that more than once per blue moon.

An ethernet/LAN adapter included with the NSO subscription fee, because it's criminal that one isn't built into the dock.

When I had my PS4 and was PS+ member, there was never a doubt I was getting what I paid for. With NSO, I'm not sure what I'm paying for most of the time. The price point is irrelevant, because it's hardly even a service at all.

Re: Reminder: Smash Bros. Ultimate's Second Fighters Pass Can Be Purchased From The eShop

cptspaulding

I only bought Terry Bogard and not the entire Pass 1 and I do not regret, especially after the 5th fighter was announced. Definitely won't be buying Pass 2 blindly. Really only reason I play this game is because of Terry Bogard, it's the reason I finally caved and bought a Smash game for the first time in my life. With Samurai Shodown coming out on Feb. 25, I doubt I'll play Smash much at all. It's going to take a character as equally important to me as Terry to get my interest into Smash up again. I'd hit the floor if M.Bison or Raiden make an appearance. Doubtful, but it's gonna take someone on that level.

Re: The Kunio-kun World Classics Collection Appears To Finally Be Coming To The West

cptspaulding

It was called Nintendo World Cup here, but I really loved that one. My brother and I had bought River City Ransom after making money at a garage sale, so that game always has a place in my heart. I never got a chance to try the hockey game, so this collection looks interesting.

Correction - as pointed out below, the game in this collection is not Nintendo World Cup, but possibly the sequel. Regardless, World Cup was great and I'd be interested in this collection.

Re: Feature: Best Nostalgic Switch Games

cptspaulding

@DockEllisD I'm a bit salty the game has gotten little recognition of excellence when games like Dead Cells and Blasphemous are heralded. Valfaris is in-your-face, non-stop, heavy metal mayhem with colours to blow your mind and brutality to crush your dreams. I listen to the soundtrack walking back and forth to work and feel about a foot taller. Lol

Re: Feature: Best Nostalgic Switch Games

cptspaulding

This list is missing the best game of 2019, Valfaris. Sorry, can't take list seriously, just basically plopped down 20 games without much thought. Lost interest when I realize no thought was put into this.

Re: Review: SEGA AGES Shinobi - A True Arcade Classic Comes To Switch

cptspaulding

The rewind feature is a good addition for new age gaming. It can also be viewed as a positive for the arcader that lost tens of dollars in quarters playing this gem, as in using the rewind feature as revenge.

I personally don't care what constitutes beating a game to someone other than me. If I have to resort to beating the game with the rewind, I cheated. I would much prefer to play a clean run. However, I won't knock the rewind feature, because it's not obligatory.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Smash Bros. Ultimate Challenger 5?

cptspaulding

I recently tried out sword fighters in smash, not a big fan of them. So this news is underwhelming that they yammed another one in and made fun of the fact that there's so many swordsmen. I'm certainly happy I did not purchase the DLC pack, and certainly won't be purchasing the next DLC pack. Very happy I did not purchase this pass and only bought Terry.

Re: Older Versions Of Football Manager Vanish From Switch eShop As 2020 Launches

cptspaulding

@Doktor-Mandrake I will say this. Going digital, with a large SD card, this is not a problem. I don't delete games I like and will never lose them. They will always be downloaded to my SD card ready for play. Sure, there's no value in having the physical copy, but that physical copy has the risk of becoming equally useless if your system doesn't have all the patches/updates installed and the servers are long gone.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Pick Up On Black Friday And Cyber Monday?

cptspaulding

Deal 1 - Bought a Nintendo Switch console that also came with a gift card worth $125. A pre-Black Friday deal at Shoppers in Canada. This is a gift for my niece for Christmas (the Switch and the Giftcard).

Deal 2 - Bought Fight of Gods on Nintendo eShop for 50% off. This is a joke Christmas gift to myself. Gonna have some friends over and drop this gem on them. Jesus vs. Santa incoming. Me going to hell, outgoing.

Deal 3 - Bought Mario & Sonic at the 2020 Olympics on eShop for 15% off, or whatever it was slightly discounted for. Couldn't resist, and my niece will also be able to download and play it since I'll have her on my family plan.

Almost Deal 4 - Almost bought an all digital XBox One S for $179.99 (Canadian dollars) but resisted. Just couldn't do it, even at that outrageously cheap price!
