Re: The Wii Mini Will Arrive in the U.S. in November

Zaphod_Beeblebrox

Nintendo of America was worried the Wii U wasn't going to have enough competition from the PS4 and Xbone. So they're releasing the Wii Mini. Let's see how the Wii U does now, sandwiched between all these competing systems. On the upside, at least Nintendo makes money on the Wii Mini. So there's that.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Safe and Family-Friendly Focus is Integral to Its Fortunes

The only reason this issue has arisen is because of WORTHLESS, GARBAGE, INCOMPETENT, UNQUALIFIED PARENTS who didn't set the parental controls. That is THE ONLY REASON. Minors should not have unsupervised access to the Internet. PERIOD.

Nintendo provides parental controls and friend codes. If those aren't enough, it isn't Nintendo's fault. But, alas, Nintendo is too chicken to defend that point. So all online communication through Nintendo devices must be either blocked or moderated.

And the joke is all these kids have Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts. I'm sure those are just squeaky clean.

Re: Iwata: Wii Fit U's Free Trial Period Will Improve Wii U Sales Momentum

Zaphod_Beeblebrox

I'm concerned about the apparently huge number of used balance boards available on the market (asking prices are around $5 to $20 from what I've read on 'GAF). This suggests to me that the people who bought the original Wii versions (Fit and Fit Plus) have dumped it. I don't think that speaks favorably for the Wii Fit brand.

I hope Wii Fit U is a huge success and sells millions of Wii U consoles...but I seriously doubt it.

Orange would be great. My favorite orange was that burnt metallic orange prototype unit I think they had on display behind glass way back before the 3DS was released. That thing looked like a sports car. But I'd settle for this orange. Looks great.

Edit: Yay, Google image search. Found the burnt-orange pre-release unit (possibly just an engineering mockup with no guts in it...dunno):

Re: Soapbox: The Wii Changed The Face of Gaming, Before The Console Industry Promptly Forgot Its Lessons

My gut feeling is the GamePad was a huge waste of development resources (they put a ton of work into it) for not enough payoff. And now it's a waste of manufacturing resources (cost). It's a boat anchor.

I really think they should have made an HD Wii. Period. Just updated the Wii with a faster processor, faster GPU, and more RAM to make it capable of running games which look good on an HD TV (which the original Wii definitely does not).

In other words, they should have invested in the fundamentals, not that huge, expensive, one-per-system controller. I hope it's a mistake they never make again.

Re: Review: Rune Factory 4 (3DS)

Great review, Morgan. I love this game (I also loved Rune Factory 3 (DS), Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny (Wii and PS3), and Rune Factory: Frontier (Wii)).

Whichever console gets the next Rune Factory game will be the console I buy. If it's the Wii U, I'll finally buy a Wii U. If it's the PS4, I'll buy my first Sony console.

There used to be a Japanese "train cam" on Ustream. Someone got permission to put a video camera in the front of commuter trains, looking out the windshield. It was actually pretty cool. Lots of scenery (both rural and urban).

Re: The Harp Twins Strike Again With A Whimsical Mario Medley

Amazing how uncivil some people are when they're hiding behind anonymous accounts. I'm not a fan of public profiles (for safety and privacy reasons) but I'm beginning to understand why some communities require them.

Back on topic...

Yup, I too subscribed to their YouTube channel back when NintendoLife first posted about them. They'll arrange just about any music for harp.

Re: Hands On: Assault Android Cactus

Suppressing rogue robots made me think of Bubblegum Crisis (anime), which I've been watching on Netflix in the US.

Even if I don't have the reaction time to be good at it, this still looks like a fun game. I really, really enjoyed playing Geometry Wars: Galaxies on the Wii (though in that game the enemies swarm rather than shoot).

But I still don't own a Wii U. Maybe one of these days.

Re: Poll: How Important is Dual / Second Screen Gaming?

Zaphod_Beeblebrox

I have yet to try a Wii U so I only answered the 3DS questions.

I imagine the difference in distance between the screens makes the Wii U a completely different animal than the 3DS. Refocusing between a tiny screen in your hands and a large screen several meters away from you is a chore, I'd think. But I won't really know until I've tried a Wii U.
