Re: Opinion: The Mario Movie Was Okay At Best, But I Can't Wait For The Sequel

XXWeskerXX

Disagree with the entire writeup. I thought the first one was perfect with a solid (yet simple) story. And I had very high expectations. And 95% on RT backs that up. Even the music done by the best (action) movie soundtrack composer was a great get, with excellent Kondo remixes.

The cast across the board was fantastic. And yes, Chris Pratt voice was completely fine. I'm a fan of Parks and Rec and a lot of his other work. He's just a funny person, with a good voice and brought that to the role, doing so respectfully. Good decision on them to keep this great cast in tact.

I doubt Galaxy will be as good. Very, very weak characters in those games. The Mario universe characters/enemies have added barely anything good since SM64.

Re: Round Up: Everything Announced For Super Mario's 40th Anniversary

XXWeskerXX

I'm massively disappointed. Game-wise we get 3 tiny things:

1) a rerelease of 2 wii games (1 is ALREADY on the Switch!)
2) DLC for a 2023
3) yet another tennis game

Really?? How are people satisfied with this? Yoshi is NOT a Mario game. It's a slow exploration-based, collect-athon puzzler than a fun, athletic platformer.

The 40th should have been a huge milestone for the biggest video game character of all time. I feel bad for him honestly. He needed a NEW platformer (at least announced) at a minimum.

I was also looking forward to the rumored New SMB trilogy rerelease (DS, Wii, 3DS versions). That would have been a nice package, not already playable on switch and in need of a remastering. Feel like this didn't do a good job in their planning years back for this.

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

XXWeskerXX

Anything other than the standard 3 lap races is lame and boring. I don't want a driving sim. I want the standard gameplay that has existed for almost 3 decades. Stupid, dumb, idiotic decision to remove this and they deserve to be bombed to have their eyes opened. Let the people speak!!

Re: The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - All New Features Revealed

XXWeskerXX

No analog triggers instantly puts it behind Xbox/PS. Why Nintendo? Why?

I can't stand though how PS puts the left stick in an unnatural/uncomfortable position. The XSX is still the best pad out there but it does lack gyro/hd rumble. They were supposed to release a new controller added that, which would have been the ultimate pad ever, but it got cancelled or something.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

XXWeskerXX

Honestly, I've watched a ton of comparisons for months, including Digital Foundry's compare yesterday, and I'm a fan of the remake. Most of the time (most), the textures look better. People just like to hate on new things. There's some issues, like tiny missing effects, but overall the package is pretty definitive to me. I'm also hopeful they'll do a couple patches to make it even better (like fixing the sunset). My detailed breakdown:

  • Better: Redone/sharper textures(~80% look better to me), HD UI, DK/Diddy have higher poly models/better fur, improved FMVs, all the 3DS New Mode extras and Cloud World, 9 items per lvl vs 1 (3 for 3DS), easier to bounce off enes(maybe), better clouds, can play 3DS Cloud World with rumble/fullscreen
  • Different (but neutral): Lighting/bloom(usually brighter), colors/shading(on new textures, less warm), effects(like diddy jetpack), water (sometimes better/sometimes worse), unity engine-Unity/rebuilt code
  • Bad: Some reduced effects (like less smoke/splashes/debris in shadow lvls/barrel explosions, no sunset), worse font, blob shadows in cutscenes, longer load times (~5s), worse sound mixing

Re: Opinion: Nintendo Needs To Let Us Block The Crap On Switch 2's eShop

XXWeskerXX

There SHOULD NOT be 40 new games a week. Only 1-5 are actually real proper games. It just saturates the market and makes it hard to find good content with devs that actually give a damn.

Give me the good 'ol days where Xbox and Nintendo actually had standards and would reject this dollar store trash. I'd rather miss out on a hidden gem (like once a qtr) than have to deal with hundreds of crap games each month.

Re: Review: The Karate Kid: Street Rumble (Switch) - A Great-Looking, Offline-Only, Co-op Brawler

XXWeskerXX

A 7?? Wow. Even reading the review it sounds like a 6 tops. I tried it and it's bad. I've loved this genre since playing the first TMNT in my local grocery store 35 yrs ago. It's cheap games like this though that give the genre a bad rap. Few notes from my playthrough:

Minimal moveset, slowish gameplay, really bad collision/have to be right next to land hits, dumb ai/just stands there, same enemy groups, really boring/repetitive encounters, worthless destructibles that are almost always empty, low ene variety (like 3 samey enes for a long while), linger in the same area too long, swarms are too much for your moveset, really tedious/annoy bosses (go YT the first one...bad), weak parries, no weapons or objects. Just a low budget cash-in on a license.

Save your money and wait for these other upcoming beat 'em ups: Night Slashers remake (next Fri!), Gi Joe (next Fri too!), Vengeance Hunters, Fallen City Brawl, Jay and Bob, Double Dragon Revive, Streets of Rage 3D, Golden Axe 3D.

A solid (not spectacular), but under-the-radar beat 'em up that came out recently is TMNT: Wrath of the Mutants. 1000x better than Karate Kid. Port from the arcade game which is pretty rare these days. Or just go replay SOR4 or TMNT Shedder's Revenge again.

Re: New TMNT: Mutants Unleashed Gameplay Trailer Is Packed With Bodacious Brawling

XXWeskerXX

God, I hate their voices and their look. The overall art style is fine but they ruined Mikey and Donny. Raph looks ok and at least Leo looks normal. They nailed it in the 2012 Nick show, why not stick with similar look? At least it's better than the dumpster fire that was the ugly Rise of TMNT art.

With that said, the movie was good, show ok and this game will probably be fine.

Re: New Denuvo 'Switch Emulator Protection' Tech Launches, And Players Are Worried

XXWeskerXX

Seems like 90% of the people here are uninformed. You can EASILY dumps Switch games you BOUGHT and play them on the emulators. There is NOTHING wrong with that. Nintendo would shut the emulators down if it weren't 100% legal, which it is. The ONLY thing illegal is downloading games that you didn't buy.

So don't go an assume because someone wants customizable controls, post-processing filters and the other tons of enhancements emulators offer to the playing experience, they're pirates. Just ignorant.

Re: Footage From Sonic Frontiers' Cyber Space Stages Emerges From Gamescom

XXWeskerXX

God, Sonic games all look the same and play like crap because they have to make him fast. So what happens? His platforming is garbage.

Sonic sucks. He's had 63 games and outside of some classic 2D games, all poorly rated. It's all bad level design, blind jumps and cheap deaths. But he goes Fast!! Yeah, that's all he does, all he's ever done.

How have they learned nothing from Miyamoto? Mario is 10x the mascot Sonic is, and always will be, with unique game play, high quality and masterful controls.
